“I wasn’t worried about them. They might have checked to see how I was doing, but they’d never overstep.”

She squeezed her legs tighter. “You’re very good in the water.”

At the brush of her mound on his cock, he chuckled. “Babe, you’ve got no clue.”

“So, I guess you can keep me safe from whatever might take a nibble…” She rubbed her very generous breasts against his chest and gave him a sexy smile.

Wolf decided doing it in the water might be memorable enough. He gripped her waist and lifted her, and with a couple of searching probes, found her soft heat. Driving her down his length, he closed his eyes. “Fuck, Piper, that’s good.”

Her fingernails dug into his shoulders, and she bounced, sliding up and down and wriggling to work him deeper. “There,” she said, her voice dropping to a sultry purr. “That’s better than good. I like the way you fill me right up.”

“Piper,” he groaned and clamped his hands on both of her cheeks, moving her up and down as he braced against the surging water. “I wanted to do everything right. I wanted your tits in my mouth, wanted to taste every inch of you before I fucked you.”

“Think this isn’t special?” she asked, her jaw dropping when he pushed upward as he forced her down again. “I’ve never done it in the ocean.”

He cradled her against his body and kissed her, continuing to pump inside her warmth. “Goddamn it,” he said, halting and slowly pulling free.

“No!” She gripped his shoulders again and rubbed her breasts on his skin. “Why’d you stop?”

“Protection, baby. I forgot. That’s never happened.” He leaned his forehead against hers.

She sagged against him. “I’m sure I have a box somewhere.”

“I have condoms in my duffel.” He kissed her forehead and chuckled. “Did I kill the mood?”

Piper kissed his mouth then rubbed a finger on his bottom lip. “You’ll have to make it up to me.”

He gave her a crushing hug. “Let’s hurry.”

Hand in hand, they ran out of the sea. He scooped up his clothing and began dressing. She did the same, but her hand closed around her shorts. A loud hum sounded.

“That your phone?”

She nodded. Her expression shuttered.

He kept dressing, pretending he didn’t notice that she angled away to read the name of her caller. When he connected with her gaze again, he already knew he wouldn’t like what she said.

“I have to go.”

He pulled down his shirt and thought hard about what to say. “Will I see you tomorrow?”

She gave him a half-hearted smile. “Count on it.”

But he didn’t. Something was up. She wasn’t meeting his gaze. Not giving up yet, he pulled her shorts from her hands and shook out the sand, then knelt and held them for her to step into, even going so far as zipping and buttoning her up. Although closing off the view of her pretty pussy nearly killed him. Before straightening, he kissed the bare skin of her belly, just above her waistband. “I enjoyed tonight.”

“I did, too.” But she didn’t hesitate to bend and scoop up her panties, balling them in her fist before stuffing them in a pocket.

He grabbed her halter top before she could and stepped behind her, waiting as she formed the cups over breast and held them there as he tied the straps at her back.

When she turned, she lifted her head and gave him another almost-smile.

“You better go.”

“Yeah.” But her gaze swept his face, and then she stepped toward him and came up on her toes and kissed him. Until her mouth pressed his, he thought she was saying goodbye for good, but she stepped back.

“Tomorrow?”

He nodded and watched as she jogged to her house and disappeared inside.

Chapter Four

AFTER A VERY quick shower and change of clothes, Piper let herself inside the cottage several blocks down and one removed from the beach. The small efficiency beach house was a little shabby, and not fully furnished, but Calvin had made do, moving the kitchen table to the open living area. His surveillance gear was arranged on the long, cracked Formica-and-chrome table—a monitor showing the gated entrance to the row of luxury houses; a receiver that was silent at the moment, but which gave tones every time the doors or windows of her beach house opened; and a computer monitor that presently displayed a red-white-and-blue-themed website. She gave it a quick glance but homed on Calvin’s sour expression.

His dark brows were lowered, his dark eyes glittering as he eyed her wet hair and skimpy shorts. “Enjoy the party?” he asked, his deep voice reflecting a surly mood.

Piper raised both eyebrows. She wondered if she should have asked for a doggie bag of steaks to sweeten his disposition. But she held up a paper sack. “I come bearing tacos.”

“Tacos ain’t gonna cut it.” He pushed up from his metal-and-vinyl kitchen chair, which groaned.

Piper almost smiled because the chair sounded relieved to be free of his husky, tall body.

He waved her toward the chair he’d vacated. “Have a seat,” he said, his tone dead even.

Feeling the first stirring of alarm, she sat, and then waited while he angled the computer monitor and tapped the screen. “You ever hear of Charter Group?”

She shrugged. Most of the general public hadn’t. They were a super-discreet, super-elite, black-ops company. They worked in the background, supporting law enforcement agencies and large corporations doing their dirty work—hostage negotiations, extractions, security and protection, and some said, even selective assassinations. “Sure. Who hasn’t? What do they have to do with us? We’re bounty hunters, they’re contracted spooks and bodyguards to the rich and famous. We don’t operate in their circles.”

“What have I always said about coincidences?”

“No fucking such thang,” she said, mimicking his voice. Glancing upward, she narrowed her eyes. “You thinking about applying for a job with them?”

“Think they’d hire a fat, old ex-cop?” He grunted. “They take ex-military, still in their prime. Fine, young hunks…” He let his voice trail off, and then arched a brow.

She held up her hand to give him a high five, but quickly dropped it as he glared. “You found out who owns that house.”

“Yeah, your pretty boys are Charter agents.”

“No.” Her whole body tensed. “You think they’re after Pérez, too?”

“They’ve been cleaning up Diego Guzman’s cartel. Maybe they’re going after his arms dealers, too.”

She shook her head. “Calvin, I really don’t think so. They’re vacationing. Three in the house are leaving in the morning. If they were thinking to grab Pérez, wouldn’t they have better Intel than we do? Finding one of his mistress’s homes was dumb luck on our part. I doubt they’d spend the resources on sitting on her house for months on the off-chance he’d show.”

He fisted his hands on his generous hips. “Well, ain’t that exactly what we did?”

“Because we don’t have their network. If they were after Pérez, who’s not directly involved with the Guzman cartel, they’d be a heck of a lot more efficient.”

His gaze narrowed again, and his thick lips pursed. “I don’t like it. We’re already thousands into this sting—puttin’ you up in Alana’s hotel in Acapulco so you could get all chummy, then fuckin’ settin’ up to watch this place while you housesit for the spoiled woman. We can’t let them romance the collar out from under you.”

“I’m not stupid, Calvin. I haven’t given away anything about what I’m doing there, and they haven’t been overly curious about the house or asked about the owner. For all I know, they think I’m renting or the place belongs to a relative. Not many people know Alana’s involved with Pérez. We lucked into that golden nugget.”

“Wasn’t luck. She was his real estate agent for the air strip he bought. She’s a bombshell—a bottle blonde. Pérez’s type. Something you confirmed when you spent that spa day together.”

Piper grimaced, remembering sharing a tub full of hot, green mud with Alana. She’d had mud in places that had required a cleansing douche to remove. “I really don’t think they’re interested. This weekend’s the first time I’ve seen anyone in that house. Just four people, one a girlfriend, and believe me, she’s not an operative. Like I said, three are leaving tomorrow.”

“Better make sure the one they leave behind isn’t sittin’ on the location for the same reason we are.”

An easy promise to make
. She smiled. “I’ll get close.”

Calvin shook his head. “You already been close?”

She gave a nonchalant shrug. “I don’t kiss and tell.”

“Huh. Just watch your back.”

She glanced at the company description that boasted the best-trained operatives in the world—ex-SEALs, Delta Force,
etc.
“My “six”, don’t you mean?” At the roll of his eyes, she laughed. “Don’t worry, Calvin. I’m not going goo-goo-eyed over some testosterone-loaded hottie. I’m doing recon.” She flipped her hair. “But sure is sweet he’s so cute.”

“You like playin’ with fire.”

“Just one of the reasons you took me on as your partner, and you know it.”

“I’m gettin’ too old for this game,” he muttered, running a hand down his face.

“I better get back and grab some sleep. You pulled me away at a very inopportune moment. He might already be curious about why I high-tailed it out of there. I’ll have some ground to recover tomorrow.”

“Just flash those t—”

“Calvin!” She raised a finger and wagged it in front of his face. “I’ll be fine. Alana’s my bestie. When we see Pérez pop up, we’ll have his ass on a plane so fast, no one will see it coming.”

He glanced at his watch, and then at the twin bed set against the wall in view of the technology littering the table. “You go get a good night sleep,” he said, his voice not nearly as hard-edged as when she’d arrived.

She walked up to him and stood on tip-toe to kiss his cheek. “You’re grumpy because you haven’t been sleeping. Maybe we should think about bringing in someone else to spell you.”

“And share that reward with a third? Uh-huh. Two-hundred-fifty grand’ll go a long ways toward making up for the lack of shut-eye.”

She leaned into him for a sideways hug. “Later, Cal.”

The drive back to her place took only minutes. When she pulled her rental into the garage, she sighed. Lord, she’d hated leaving Wolf on the beach. They’d both been so aroused, so ready to make a memorable night. When she was inside the house, she went to her bedroom on the upper floor and pulled up her blinds to stand in the dark and look across at the other house. Not a light shone in any window. But then she thought she saw the curtain in an upstairs window move. Was he watching for her return?

Piper grinned. Maybe the night wasn’t over quite yet. She’d keep up the blinds but the lights off. For now. But she’d better hurry before he decided she’d gone to sleep. Piper headed to the bathroom, leaving the door open so the light would shine like a beacon. Not that he’d see anything more than steam rising.

WOLF HAD STILL been on the beach, lying on the blanket while he waited for his erection to wane, when he’d heard a car’s engine fading in the distance and realized Piper had left. Curious, he’d made his way back to Charter’s house and to his bedroom, avoiding his friends who sat chatting in the living room.

Although her whereabouts were none of his business, he kept his window open and stretched out on his bed, listening for when she returned from wherever she’d gone. His friends slowly filtered upstairs. The torturous sounds of lovemaking floated from down the hallway, but eventually subsided. Just when Wolf believed Piper had gone to meet another man and wouldn’t be back until morning, he’d heard the creak and whir of the garage door from next door and the quiet purr of an engine.

He rose and headed to the window, shifting the curtain to the side to stare across the way, but the lights remained off. He imagined her making her way through the house by touch. A hand trailing a railing, a toe seeking the edge of the stair. Then he noted the rise of the blinds in the window opposite his and held still, knowing that what he was doing, hoping for a glimpse of Piper, was wrong in so many ways. But she’d left him wanting. And now, he was hooked.

Another moment later, he noted the light switch on deeper inside the bedroom. A sliver of light beamed from an opened bathroom door. He caught a glimpse of bared skin in the mirror, but even his eyesight wasn’t that good, so he reached sideways for his bag…and the scope.

After a quick adjustment, he stared through the scope, watching the mirror cloud and steam billow from the doorway. She’d be nude, her body wet. Rather than silvery moonlight reflecting off her body, the light would be golden. Would her nipples as be erect as they were in the ocean water? Deliciously dimpled?

The door opened fully, and she stepped out, dressed only in a pushup bra and skimpy panties.

“I’ll roast in hell,” he muttered, but he couldn’t lower the scope. Not as she bent to turn on the lamp beside the bed. Her ass was bisected by a skinny strap that disappeared between her rounded cheeks, and he groaned. Then she pulled back her coverlet and plumped up her pillows, bending over the bed and giving him a great view of her deep cleavage. Again, he imagined sliding his dick between her breasts. And fuck, he was hard again.

The bed was situated perpendicular to his view, but she angled her body as she lay down so her toes were nearest him, and he had a perfect view of her long legs and curvy figure. She reached for a second pillow and put it beneath her head, resting on two so her face was well above her body, and he could see her expression.

Her gaze was trained on his window.

Instinct pulled him back, and he lowered his scope. Then a smile tugged at his mouth. The little witch!

Raising the Hensoldt again, he trained it on the bed. His heart began to thud as he watched her hands slowly roam the curves he’d been touching earlier. Over the creamy tops of her breasts, between, then lifting them to cup herself through the lace. Seeing her unclip her bra, he held his breath, waiting in an agony of suspense while she slowly drew apart the cups to reveal her large, pink-tipped breasts.

His cock hardened as she pleasured herself, rolling the peaked tips between her fingers, then pinching them and tugging them upward to watch them bounce back. His mouth salivated, imagining his tongue sliding over the hard little nubs.

But she wasn’t finished teasing. She closed her legs and rolled her hips side-to-side as she slid her thumbs under the bands at her hips and tugged down her panties to her knees. Then she used her painted toes to finish the journey, before raising the strappy garment with one set of toes and kicking it away.

He smiled at her wicked grin, then groaned when she raised her knees and parted them, giving him a view he couldn’t have denied himself if a gun was being held to his head. Her pussy looked beautiful—pink and slick, her inner lips a little furled and protruding a bit from her thicker, fleshier outer lips. Fuck, he’d love to suck on those thin curly lips.

She wet her finger tips, then forked the fingers of one hand and drew up the top of her folds to expose her reddened clit. When he spotted her begin to circle a wet fingertip atop the hard knot, he couldn’t stand the pressure of his shorts against his cock and shoved them off.

Now, his cock jerked and pulsed as he stared across at the woman whose expression was growing tenser, whose skin was growing rosy and moist as she swirled, then tucked her fingers inside her pussy and began to pump.

Enough!
He leaned sideways to reach for his own lamp and turned it on, then off. She shouldn’t have been able to see him, but she would see the light. Again, he stood in the window and watched.

She pushed up and sat on the edge of the bed, staring across at his darkened window. Her teeth sank into her bottom lip as she pulled her thick red-brown hair to the side and looked across the way. Then she slowly stood, turning then glancing over her shoulder, her eyelids dipping, before walking out of her room. Thank God for the floor-to-ceiling windows! As she moved through the house, lights turned on. She was still naked, only her phone in her hand, and making her way down the stairs, through the living room, and then out the side door.

He rushed down the stairs, careless of his own lack of clothing, and met her at the sliding glass at the back of the house. They stood on opposite sides of the glass, both their gazes sweeping their nude forms, then he slowly slid open the door and backed away.

Piper didn’t say a word. She stepped over the threshold and rushed inside, launching herself at his body, her legs winding around his hips, her arms around his shoulders. His breath gusted as she fell into him, and just as quickly, he grabbed her ass and held her against his erection, groaning through gritted teeth because she smelled amazing—like flowers and sunshine…and her.

“Condoms?” she moaned, rubbing her chest eagerly against his.

“Upstairs. Bed.” He couldn’t manage more conversation, because he was already gliding his mouth over her cheek and jaw, already tugging her earlobe with his teeth.

“Quick,” she gasped and undulated, grinding her mound against his cock.
