“I take you as my mate. Take into my keeping your life, your love, your needs, and your soul. I give you my forever. I give you my pledge that there shall be no other in my life above you. I promise to make you more than myself. You are my mate, my life, my love. I give you a part of myself for your safekeeping. A part of me that will become you and so the cycle shall begin anew. Everything I am is now yours to command.”
The words shattered Tatiana in a way that she never knew possible. She knew that in that moment she would no longer be the same woman and what she now was, as the pieces knit back together, mixed and scrambled, until she didn’t know where she ended and Clyde began, was his mate.
“I love you, Clyde,” she cried as they sank to the bed together in the aftermath.
“I love you, mate. Forever and a day. Death can’t even separate us.”
Epilogue
The Fairy Drag Mother seemed empty now. Cold and quiet. Aaron had become used to being with Tatiana every day and now he was alone once more. The minute that the two had said they loved each other, he had winked out of her home back into his store as if he had never been there. Fonda, Ayana, Ethane, Collin, and the twins had returned to the islands to allow the newly mated pair some time to get used to each other. They’d left four shifter guards with them, as promised, to counteract any threats that Clyde’s father may have issued to them.
Aaron’s work was done. They were connected, like a family, but he was left out of that. He knew that he would miss them all. He sat in the same chair that Tatiana has sat in crying all that time ago and he felt very near to crying himself.
“I will miss you, my friend,” he said then and felt a peculiar shift in the air around him that told him that Lea had appeared in his store.
“You will see them again,” she said and he looked up at her.
“Are you sure?”
“I would not lie to you about that. You are already changing, Aaron. Whether you want to admit it or not, their lives affected you. You remember when I told you that when you go back to your old life you will have the friends that matter and the people who are important around you? Those that didn’t matter will be gone and you will be better for it. You won’t miss them.”
“But when will my work with you be done?” Aaron questioned.
“I can’t tell you that. It will be done when it is time to be done. There is a time and a place for everything. You just have to trust me on that. When it is done you will know and you will get your second chance at life.” Aaron sighed and leaned back. It would be odd to have to get to know someone else all over again.
“I felt like Tatiana and I had gotten so close and now she is gone.”
“Not quite,” Lea said as the door to his store chimed open. It seemed as if the sun had risen and it was a brand-new day. He looked to the door to see a sharply dressed light-skinned woman walk toward him. She was looking around the store and most likely hadn’t seen him yet. Her knee-high red boots were a splash of color against her black pencil skirl and black silk button-up blouse. On her shoulder was a Prada bag. Aaron knew money when he saw it. He had been the proprietor of his store for some time and knew what a sale looked like. He stood to his feet as he watched the woman look at the clothing on his racks. For her to be in the store, however, would mean that she was his new client.
“The store is nice, but really, Tatiana, I don’t know why we
had
to come in here today. You just decided to tell me that your ass is getting married, something that we will revisit later.” The woman’s smart mouth twisted into lip smacking after she tossed the words over her shoulder. Aaron felt his jaw drop when Tatiana walked in behind her.
“Joyce, I just had to let you see this shop. It’s absolutely amazing. My friend, Aaron, owns it. I know that you like your fashion. Trust me, if he can’t get you dressed up no one can,” Tatiana laughed.
Your work is never done,
Lea whispered in his mind and Aaron just smiled, thankful in a way that he had never known he would be.
“Thank you, Lord,” he whispered into the air and smiled as he looked down at Joyce and Tatiana. “How can I help you?”
