Lowering his head, he nibbled at the back of her neck drawing a soft moan from her lips. “Do you forgive me?”

“Well, it depends,” Sapphire answered as she rubbed her ass against his erection.

Brian sucked in a breath while holding her to him. He could get used to having Sapphire in his arms for the rest of his life. “What does it depend on?”

“How well you grilled my steak. I’m very picky about my meat.”

Spinning her around, Brian gave her a cocky grin. “I promise you my skills on the grill are even better than my talent on the ice.”

“They better be or you won’t get any more kisses from me,” Sapphire warned, running her finger over his bottom lip.

“Once you allowed me to kiss this lovely mouth of yours, you can’t take it back.”

“I can do anything—”

Brian cut off Sapphire by hauling her close to him. One hand gripped her hip while the other one wrapped around her ponytail she fixed before working on the salads. Holding her still he leaned down, slanted his mouth over her delectable looking lips and covered her mouth.

He moved his mouth over Sapphire’s devouring its softness. Brian got lost in the sweet taste of her. She tasted better than cotton candy at a carnival on a warm sunny day.

Raising his mouth from hers, he gazed into her desired filled eyes, “How is it possible when I kiss you all other thoughts leave my head?”

“I have no idea,” Sapphire answered as her hands gripped the front of his shirt. “I get the same way when I kiss you. I guess we just have that effect on each other.”

Brian kissed Sapphire on the forehead and stepped back before he did more. He would save the rest for later when they were in front of the fireplace. “I’m sure the steaks and potatoes are ready by now. Why don’t you get everything else set up in front of the fireplace? I’ll meet you in there in a few minutes.”

Turning on his heel, Brian walked across the kitchen and out the patio door before he lost what tiny bit of willpower he had left.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Taking a sip of her wine, Sapphire watched the hypnotic dances of the flames inside the fireplace while Brian carried their dirty dishes into the kitchen. How was it possible a man as hot as Brian could probably give a chef like Gordon Ramsey a run for his money? Her steak tonight was mouth-wateringly good. It was so delicious that she had finished the whole thing much to Brian’s pleasure and her own personal embarrassment.

Reaching up, Sapphire removed the rubber band from her hair and ran her fingers through the thick strands. She pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them.

Sapphire took another taste of the wine allowing it to continue to relax her body as she thought over her date with Brian tonight. Dinner with him was amazing. She could count on one hand how many times she had been so comfortable on a date.

Wait a minute! Her mind hit on the brakes.

She wasn’t on a date with Brian. This dinner was only two roommates getting to know each other better for the sake for their mutual friends.

Shauntie and Nash didn’t want them at odds with each other, so that was the reason she agreed to stay here. Sapphire told herself she better remember that before things went too far because a couple of hot kisses with Brian didn’t constitute a relationship.

Hearing a noise behind her, Sapphire turned her head and saw Brian coming back through the kitchen door towards her. Her heart pounded away in her chest at his disheveled look. Brian had rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up past his elbows and undid a couple of buttons displaying his smooth chest. She quickly tossed back the rest of her wine placing the empty glass back down next to her as Brian rejoined her in front of the fireplace.

“Sorry I took so long but I put our plates in the dishwasher and got them going before I came back out here. I didn’t want to leave them piled up in the sink for later.”

Placing his arm behind her back, Brian leaned closer surrounding them in the heat emanating from his body. Sapphire couldn’t deny Brian had an innately captivating presence about him, something that he was well aware of and used brilliantly to his advantage.

“Not a problem. I was just staring into the fire thinking,” she said.

“Could I hope your thoughts were about me?” Lightly, he fingered a loose tendril of hair that had fallen on her cheek.

“Actually, I was thinking about you and the wonderful time you showed me today,” Sapphire admitted. She turned her head to look at Brian making him let go of her hair. Why should she deny him the truth?

“I had a good time too. I’m glad we decided to eat in front of the fireplace. You look so beautiful in front of the fire. All I wanted to do was pull you into my arms and pick up where we left off but I fought off my initial urges.”

“Why?” Sapphire spun around so she was looking directly at Brian’s handsome face. She wouldn’t have pushed him away. In fact, she probably craved the kiss more than he did.

“Because I thought you might not like me trying something again so soon after our kiss outside by the pond,” Brian admitted. “I don’t want to mess up what’s happening between us by moving too fast.”

“I wouldn’t have pushed you away,” Sapphire admitted, softly.

Strong masculine lips turned up into a cocky smile as Brian placed a hand on her shoulder and gently pushed her down on the thick carpet. “I’ve dreamt about kissing you ever since I first laid eyes on you coming off that elevator.”

Brian watched her closely waiting for her reaction like whatever she told him would change the connection growing between them.

“I thought about you too,” Sapphire confessed as Brian lay down next to her on the floor.

“Thank you. A man loves to hear when a good-looking woman is interested in him but his ego gets even bigger when she’s also very intelligent and extremely hot.”

Grabbing him by the front of his shirt, Sapphire tugged him closer to her until he was lying practically on top of her. “If I’m so hot why is it taking you so long to kiss me again?” Closing her eyes, Sapphire waited for the kiss that she knew would change the rest of her life.

Before his mouth touched hers, Sapphire felt his cool breath tickle the side of her cheek as Brian’s lips inched their way to hers. She licked her bottom lip in anticipation of what was about to happen.

The sound of the clock ticking seemed to get louder with each passing minute. Just as Sapphire was about to give up hope, the soft touch of Brian’s mouth teasing her made the situation about what was going to happen into a reality...a truth Sapphire was powerless to stop because it was too demanding for her to do anything else beside lay back and get lost in the ride.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Her calm was shattered by the hunger of his kiss. Brian’s tongue brushed over hers sending shivers of desire racing along the nerve endings through her entire body. Giving herself freely to the passion of the kiss, Sapphire wrapped her arms around Brian pulling him even closer.

His moist, firm mouth demanded a response and Sapphire was giving it to him. For half the night she had tried to deny herself this luxury but now she couldn’t do it any longer. This is how she wanted the night to end.

“I want you,” Sapphire whispered not caring how it might sound. All she could do was speak the truth and hope Brian got turned on from it as much as she was by his touch.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Starting from the bottom of her feet, Brian removed Sapphire’s clothing piece by piece until her beautiful, smooth warm body was completely bare for him to see. He wondered if she knew how badly he was holding back from taking her.
