The mood started to quickly change.
With just the simple command of Talon the party was over and things got
serious. Talon gave some orders and the group of bikers started to break up.
They all went into the clubhouse. I lingered back again and waited until it was
just Layne standing at the door, holding it open for me. He gave a nod and I
started to walk.

When I got to the door I paused and
looked at Layne.

Should I
be afraid?

In
this life, if you fear anything, you end up dead. Fear is your greatest enemy,
Everly.

I wasn

t sure whether that made sense to me or not. I
looked around and then bit my lip for a second. I was still so turned on my
emotions were out of whack. Moving to my toes, I kissed Layne on the cheek.

That was for the protection.

I then gently kissed his neck,
feeling the stubble of his hair.

That was to see

My lips parted just enough to
breathe on him.

That

s
when Layne walked away.

The door literally hit me in the
ass and pushed me inside. The door clicked shut and I stood for a few seconds
collecting myself.

What did I just try to fucking
do?

I went through the second door and
into the clubhouse. It was packed with men and women. I spotted Talon as he
threw a shot of something back. He put the shot glass down and nodded. He then
turned and pointed.

You
and you,

he said.

Let

s go.

I thought he was calling for a
meeting, but it wasn

t
that.

Two half naked women walked to him
and with one on each arm, Talon started to walk away from the bar. He looked
back, his eyes managing to find me. He gave me a half smile and a wink.

What the fuck did that mean?

A hand touched my shoulder.

Don

t think about it, Everly.

It was Layne. He was the last one I
wanted to see right now. I shook my shoulder away.

Go fuck yourself, Layne.

I went to the bar and walked around
it. I found myself a full bottle of vodka. With that and a confused, fucked up
heart, it was going to just be another normal day and night in my life.

7.

(Talon)

I just needed to get off quick.
That

s all it was. The two
chicks fought over my cock for a few minutes before I finally took each of them
by the hair and guided them right where I wanted. When I came, I made sure they
each got their taste and share.

Then I was out of the fucking room.

If I wanted to fuck and I wanted to
enjoy something, I

d grab
Everly. She may have been wicked beautiful and very tempting to a man

s heart and mind, but she needed
to understand the rules around here. There was a process that kept everyone
alive and safe. That process may have been a little fucked up, but I was going
to fix it. Devil Call MC would not become some club that falls apart because of
guys running wild and acting like complete assholes.

As I walked to the front of the
clubhouse again, my eyes looked for Everly. I spotted her behind the bar, leaning
against a wall, a bottle of vodka in her hand. Buzzy sat at the bar, staring at
her. He had that grin on his fucking face, his mind thinking of all the ways to
fuck her.

I thought about going over and
knocking Buzzy off his fucking barstool, but before I could do that, Layne
appeared in front of me. He was in a nasty fucking mood, much like I was.

Can
we talk?

Layne asked.

Yeah,
man, let

s talk.

We went into the room where the
club met. Only a handful of members were allowed in the room. It was soundproof
and goddamn bullet and bomb proof. It was the ultimate fortress to hide out if
need be.

I shut the door and locked it.

Both Layne and I stood there
staring at the chair at the head of the table. That

s where the President of the club sat. That

s where I had sat for a long
time before going inside to serve my time in prison. The way Layne looked at
the chair told me he had been sitting there while I was gone.

You
took my patch,

I said.

I
did,

Layne said.

But it

s not on me anymore.

You
sat in that chair?

Like
I said, there was an image to keep.

Layne looked at me.

I didn

t let it go to my fucking head.
I kept things as honest as I could.

I
heard some stories. Fights. Murders. Drug running all around. Fuck, man, I was
almost killed a few times inside.

I

m sorry, Talon,

Layne said.

You know how it is
…”

I showed Layne the back of my neck.

You know about this?

No,

Layne said.

What the fuck happened.

A
fucking light saved me, man. I was trying to nap one day, right? There was a goddamn
light right in my eyes that drove me fucking mad. So I rolled to my face and
fell asleep. Some asshole came in to slit my throat. He was nervous as fuck and
ended up cutting the back of my neck instead of my throat.

Jesus,

Layne said.

It

s not easy inside, man.

It

s not easy outside either.

I nodded. That was a fair
statement. I put my hands to the back of a chair and pulled it out.

You
think I

m sitting there?

Layne asked.

Never
said that. I

m just waiting
for you to get to your point.

There

s drugs in this club. I
suspected some shit for a while. I was never voted in to be President, Talon.
You know that. I needed your goddamn vote to make it happen. But I had to wear
the patch and try to do it to keep the club as straight as I could. The Los Ahn
have been running wild, but we can fix that. Inside here, there

s problems. Earlier today I saw
Gabel make a deal with a guy. His name is Tommy. He

s not a good man. And if he

s dealing to our club
…”

I

ll slit his fucking throat,

I said.

Gabel

s,
I mean. I

ll do it right in
front of the entire club. To send a message.

No,
man. It

s not that simple.
I don

t know who else is
fucking around with shit. I don

t
want to scare
…”

Scare?

I asked.

Are you a pussy, man?

Layne turned and faced me.

Ease up, Talon. I

m not a goddamn enemy.

You
saw Gabel buying drugs?

Ask
Everly. She was on the back of my motorcycle.

Why
haven

t you gotten in that
yet?

I asked.

Layne

s
face flared.

It

s not what you think. She came
from a shitty place.

Like
what?

Ask
her. Maybe she

ll tell you.

She
looks drunk as fuck out there right now.

It

s how she gets by,

Layne said.

There

s always someone going up inside her.

But
not you. I don

t get it.

You
don

t have to. You were
away for a long time.

For
something I did for the club. For you, Layne.

I put my finger to his chest and pushed.

For
you.

I
could have handled my own business.

Not
you couldn

t.

There was silence and then a knock
at the door. I backed up and unlocked the door. I opened it and there was a
small group waiting for us.

You
ready?

I asked Layne.

Yeah,

he said.

I nodded and in came a few of the
guys.

Buzzy, Austin, Kade, Hollis, Drave,
and fucking Gabel. When Gabel walked in I stepped in front of him. I looked
into his eyes. If there was one thing I knew it was if someone was high. No
matter the drug, I could sniff it out. Trust me, I had plenty of experience.

What

s wrong?

Gabel asked.

You
tell me,

I said.

Anything you have to say?

Layne put a hand to my shoulder and
pulled me away. I turned and smacked his hand away.

The table started to fill up and it
left Layne and I standing. We both eyed the President

s chair. I could make a bold statement by sitting
in the chair, but I held off for now. Maybe Layne was right about the fear
thing. Then again, maybe it would be better if I just stood and looked at
everyone.

Layne shut the door.

Take a second and welcome Talon

back from the fucking dead.

The entire table clapped and
whistled.

I
was never dead,

I said,
calming the room.

Not
what we heard,

Buzzy said.

Things got messy with the
Rilen Lost MC yesterday. Alec
…”

I
heard,

I said.

I know. We lost a brother. Maybe
it

s time to smarten up
around here. Clean up these fucking messes. Clear our heads a little.

I looked around the table. When I
got to Hollis, he turned his head. His eyes fluttered a little and he ran a
hand over his face.

Hollis,
you good?

I asked.

Yeah,
bro. I

m

I

m
fucking great
…”

I looked at Layne and shook my
head. Hollis was high as a kite. He wasn

t
even in the room with us right now.

I stepped between Gabel and Kade
and put my hands to the table.

Everyone
see my leather? What

s it
missing?

President
patch,

Drave said.

That

s right. And look at Layne. He

s missing it, too. So, what

s the verdict here? We vote or
do I just take my seat?

The room was silent. It was nice to
have a sense of freedom from control, but without necessary control there was
chaos.

Hollis rolled his neck and his head
bobbed down a little.

Hollis,
what do you think?

I
asked.

I

m good,

he said.

We
can ride
…”

I stood and started to walk around
the table. Layne grabbed for me and I threw him into a wall. He hit with a thud
and I stood there, waiting for him to attack me.

He didn

t.

This
is my fucking club,

I yelled.

And I

m not dealing with fucking
bullshit. Inside or out, this is not what we

re
here for. I want to know who tried to kill me in prison. Who set all that up.
And where the protection was.

I stopped walking behind Hollis. I
grabbed him by the hair and pulled his head back. I took out a knife and held
it to his throat. The entire table stood, hands on their weapons.

Want
to shoot me?

I asked.

Stand
down,

Layne bellowed.

None of you touch your fucking
guns right now. Talon

is
our President
…”

What
are you doing, man?

Hollis
asked.

Empty
your pockets,

I ordered.

What?

I

ll gut you

empty your fucking pockets.

Hollis reached and pulled out a gun
and a knife. His eyes strained to look at me. I curled my lip, making damn sure
he knew I was serious. Hollis then closed his eyes and reached into his leather
and pulled out a couple baggies. When he dropped them on the table I took the
knife from his throat. I hurried and slammed the knife through one of the bags.
I touched the powder with my finger and then tasted it.

I looked to everyone at the table.

Fuck,

I said.

This is what happens when I

m gone? A bunch of druggies?

Not
us,

Drave said.

I don

t fuck with that shit, man. You know that.

Who
knew Hollis had a white nose problem?

Nobody wanted to speak up.

It was time to send a message.

I stepped back and pulled at
Hollis, bringing him to his feet. I turned him around and made him look at me.

I
don

t give warnings,

I said.

You piece of fucking shit.

Talon,
wait,

Layne said.

I turned Hollis around and stripped
his leather off him. I tossed it to the table. I grabbed him by the hair and
slammed his face off the table.

Christ!

Gabel yelled and jumped back.

What?

I asked.

He wants shit up his nose,
right?

I lifted Hollis and slammed his
face again. He groaned as blood sprayed from his nose.

There,

I said.

Now his nose feels nice and fucking full.

I grabbed my knife from the table
and lifted the baggies. I threw them at Layne across the table and pointed with
the blade of my knife.

Get
fucking control,

I said.

Or I

ll take it all. I

ll
start this over.

I let the
words sink in.

That

s enough for one fucking day.
Tomorrow, I

m going to
start slitting throats. And I don

t
give a fuck what the patch is on the cut. If you

re
not loyal to Devil Call, then you

re
dead to me. Think long and hard about that.
