“What are you going to do then?”

He rubbed his chin. After a moment’s hesitation, he smiled, nodding profusely. “I’ll tell them that the deal is off. Everyone will be pissed at me. But let them be pissed. I’m the one who created the company from the ground up, and I’m not losing sight of what Jagged Edge stands for. It certainly doesn’t stand for being a little heartless bastard pussy.”

“Little heartless bastard pussy, hmm? I’m thinking that line would go well underneath your logo.”

Jag decided now would be a great time to hug her. She nervously ducked away from his lips at the last second, fearing that he might try for the kiss.

“You’re always there to help me.”

I am
? She wondered. But she said nothing. “I’ll stay another day,” she decided. Like it was her choice. “Now let’s watch the rest of the movie.”

Chapter Thirteen

Sammi

That night she expected Jag to appear in her bed. She reached out for him but an empty spot welcomed her. It would be like him to make a move at some point, but he gave Sammi her space.

But she still didn’t like sleeping alone in this big cabin. When the memories resurfaced of being tossed around in that truck, the road swerving and the truck tipping, she grabbed a pillow and hugged it.

That was better. Much better.

No matter how much she pushed back, he stayed the course. Sammi went to sleep with Jag on her mind.

She woke to the birds chirping sweetly and a cool breeze tickling the back of her neck. Her train of thought picked up where it left off as she closed the blinds, the morning sun too bright here.

Jag didn’t care about his proposal now. He would date her and stay with her even without the marriage. It wasn’t the type of thing he’d agreed to because he felt sorry for her. She understood Jag better than she understood herself.

How comfortable she’d been with him last night after he saved her; that helped her wade through the confusion. Now it was crystal clear. Forget the marriage, she loved Jag, they’d find a way, and it didn’t necessarily have to be marriage.

But in the morning light, she spotted something she hadn’t been able to see last night. The diamond ring she’d carelessly tossed away. It sparkled on the second rung of the bookcase, at eye level with her.

She wanted that ring now.

Sammi got up to try it back on. Just because it would make her feel better. Like it would turn her into Cinderella by slipping it on, that’s really what it felt like, but before she got there, Jag knocked.

“Can I come in?”

“Shit,” she muttered and scurried back to the bed. Sammi reached for the sheets to pull close.

“Yes,” she responded meekly.

“You sure I’m not interrupting?” he asked, opening it up a sliver.

“Positive. Come on in, Jag.”
If I was doing anything unscrupulous, I’d ask you to give me a hand.

This all felt surreal now. A few days ago, she’d sworn off Jag. Sammi tried to fight it, but coming back to Jag always seemed inevitable.

“Breakfast,” he said. He set down the tray holding a grilled BLT with lemon tea.
Especially when he served her meals so often. She could get used to this.

“You are so awesome,” she grinned. She could’ve pecked him on the lips.

Instead she took the tray onto her lap. “You’re not eating?”

“Not right now.”

“So if we get married, will you be making me breakfast
every
morning?”

That got him chuckling. “Whenever I’m free I will. If you enjoy it this much how could I say no?”

Oh god, perfect answer. She would of course not ask him to do that, but Jag always knew how to satisfy her appetite, all of her appetites.

As she took her first bite, letting the savory flavor mingle in her mouth, she looked back to the ring.

Jag noticed her looking. He didn’t make any mention of it.

“I’m feeling much better about things. I don’t know how I’d be able to deny you, after you saved my life and then said you would date me, and forget the marriage.”

He slid smoothly into the bed. “That means you’re taking me back, huh?”

Sammi laughed. “That was fast. I’m willing to give this another try.” She hopped up, wandering back over to the bookcase, where she picked up the ring and marveled at it.

“I want this. I’ll admit it. Does that make me superficial?”

“No, every woman likes glittery things.”

Sammi smirked at him. He warmed her to the core and her whole body buzzed as she held that ring. “What I liked about it was that…it was concrete. When I looked at it, it helped me realize that you staying here wasn’t a dream.”

“You don’t need the ring,” he told her. “You believe me now.”

“Yeah, that’s right, but I’m admitting the ring is nice.”

When she turned back around, Jag towered over her. She lost herself in his gaze and understood that heady stare well now; it meant he wanted her. Right here. Right now.

“If it’s that nice, you can keep it.”

Jag kissed her. Her arms swung around him quickly, grasping onto him, not wanting to ever let go again. Their tongues wrestled, but he eventually won. Jostling her back over to the bed and pinning her down, he rubbed against her pelvis, sending a jolt up her spine.

Sammi rested her cheek against him as her fingers traced the hard, honed muscles.

The marriage sounded sweet again, but she didn’t want to move too fast.

“Is it okay if I take a shower now?”

“Sure, take your time,” he agreed, heading slowly out of the room.

Alone again, she placed the ring back on the bookshelf. It wouldn’t be right to continue to wear it even if she really wanted to. Even if she wore it when he wasn’t looking. Putting it on helped her feel sophisticated in the way she always dreamed.

Sammi heard Jag’s footsteps sound down the hall. All he needed to do was see her staring at that ring like a lunatic and he might get down on one knee and propose again.

Would that be so bad?

Would he ever want to do it again?

She stripped and stepped into the shower. It was a spacious standing shower with an assortment of lotions and hair products. Most of it looked quite manly, but she shuffled through and found a lavender and vanilla soap that would do.

She turned on the shower. The blast of hot water had her sighing in relaxation as she spun around to expose every inch of skin.

“Excuse me, I couldn’t stay away.”

Sammi yelped and jumped. Jag waited in the bathroom doorway.

He approached the shower door and yanked it open. As soon as he did, he dropped down onto one knee.

At first, she thought he dropped something…her mind did all sorts of mental gymnastics to guess what was happening for the second time.

“I want you to keep this ring. I don’t care how many times you throw it off a balcony.” He laughed. “I’ll go find it again and again and try to put it on your finger, where it belongs.”

The water continued to beat down on her, except it felt like someone turned it all the way on hot.

It got all blurry too. She wiped her eyes to force away the tears.

“I’m not saying that because of any other reason. I want to marry you. Because being away from you, it would be the stupidest thing I’d ever done. I want you as my wife. I told you the truth before and I’m telling you the truth now, I love you, Sammi Jo.”

He held the ring out. “Will you marry me?”

“Yes, I’ll marry you!” she whispered.

They shared a passionate, lingering kiss. Her naked body melted against him as she came down from that electrifying kiss.

As soon as he pulled away, he placed the glittering diamond on her finger again. Sammi looked up at him with a sultry smile.

“Not every girl gets two proposals,” he teased as he kissed her neck, backing her up to the shower wall.

Panting, her body overheating, and wanting him even closer, Sammi knew that they wouldn’t be leaving the shower soon, not until they celebrated their engagement again.

Jag

I want her. All of her.

He slipped his cock tip over her wet pussy and she rocked her hips, trying to take him in.

“No condom,” she panted.

He always knew she wanted the family life. If they were married, he expected to try to put at least one baby in her.

This confirmed his suspicions when he heard her beg for it raw. A slick, slightly smug smile formed on his lips as he heard the words. She was delicious, and he knew burying himself in that tight, warm pussy with nothing to deaden the pleasure would be mind blowing.

“Fuck, yes” he groaned, then thrust himself inside. She melted and coiled around him tightly. This one was gonna be over quickly, he realized. But he held on and made it long enough to switch up positions from against the wall to doggy style, her curves bouncing to his ravaging, her moans of passion echoing in the shower.

His cock swelled as he squeezed and slowed, but as hard as he tried, he couldn’t stop. Her pussy felt too damn good. Watching her bent over, her ass shaking at the end of his cock, and her sweet moans as he pounded her…it all was too damn hot.

“I’m going to—”

“Yes! Come in me,” she cried.

He let loose. With no restraint left, he rammed his cock all the way in until his balls bristled against her sweltering soft skin. Then he unloaded, filling her as she grasped onto the wall for help. But he kept her steady, hugging her waist, pinning her to him so that he could drain all he had inside her.

“Yes,” they both groaned, long and satisfied.

His cock twitched a few more times. Jag didn’t want to let go of her so soon, but they needed to unlatch eventually.

Neither of them said anything. When he pulled out, she jumped into his arms. She devoured his lips, forcing him back until his wet back slapped against the shower wall.

Chuckling, he reveled in a high he’d never experienced as he tried to nibble her bottom lip, but failed. Sammi seemed dazed as well, but wasn’t letting go.

“I love you, Jag.”

He speared his fingers through her damp hair before pulling her back. “I love you, Sammi Jo.”

Exhausted, he reached for the soap. “Now let’s get clean before we get dirty again, shall we?”

She slapped his ass. Then, taking their time, they washed each other down.

After their shower, they hung out on the balcony. The weather was perfect for August, balmy with the hint of the fall rolling in. Sammi peered over the balcony ledge, her lips upturned in a constant smile.

“Want a glass of wine? This is the perfect day to just relax.”

And then fuck again, once they relaxed enough.

“That sounds nice, and yes, it’s beautiful. Do you bring every girl you save from being kidnapped here?”

“No,” he said, brushing her hair back, kissing Sammi behind her ear. “Just you. And only you now.”

Jag left to get a glass of whiskey and wine. When he returned, Sammi leaned against the balcony toward him. She took a sip, smiled wider, and then studied him. What was on her mind?

He was glad that she enjoyed the wine too. It wasn’t anything expensive in fact, he often kept cheap bottles that tasted delicious around because he liked to trick his rich friends into thinking they were buying some top of the line product.

Around Sammi, he didn’t need to worry about money. She understood him.

“You look quite happy.” He smirked.

“I feel brand new. Or rather, I feel like my old self again, back when we used to be friends. Before I got involved in those terrible relationships and things got complicated.”

Jag wanted to freeze this moment forever as he looked at Sammi, so happy and carefree.

“What do you want, Sammi?” he asked.

She crooked her head. “What do you mean?”

“What do you want in your life?” He hoped she knew that he wanted to give it to her, whatever it was.

“No one ever asked me that before,” she said as she put a finger to her lips.

“Tell me honestly.”

“Honestly.” She thought as she hummed. It took her another minute before she answered.

“You can probably guess what I want from what happened in the shower.” Sammi’s cheeks flushed. “I want a family. A baby, maybe two.”

She checked his reaction, but she shouldn’t have been afraid.

He forced back the need to take her in his arms and comfort her. Jag didn’t want to influence her at all.

“You should know from what happened in the shower, that’s what
I
want too.”

“I suppose so,” she said as her smirk turned into a radiant smile.

“What else do you want? Is that all you want?”

“That’s kind of big, don’t you think?”

“It is, but I want to know everything.” Jag sipped his whiskey. He turned away to give her time to think.

“Before the big family, I want to go travel. I always wanted to go to Europe. Not anything crazy, just a few weeks in order to see everything once.”

Jag furrowed his brows as he stood. “Why haven’t you done it before? You could’ve taken the days off.”

She shrugged. “I never had anyone who would go with me. It never seemed like the right timing. I needed the money, too.”

Sammi ducked her head as she drank her wine. Jag wouldn’t let her turn around. He snatched her hips and placed her right in front of him, so she would be forced to look at him.

“Let’s do it.”

“Do what?”

He didn’t pause when he said it, “All of it.”

They embraced again.

Jag had won million dollar contracts. He’d climbed Mount Everest. And competed in ultra marathons. He had a bucket list a mile long that he’d finished.

But nothing made him feel more complete than having Sammi Jo in his arms and knowing she would be his.

Epilogue

Sammi

This morning, they traveled along the same river bank underneath the Notre Dame cathedral where Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron had danced in the 50s. Not long into the walk, Sammi got nauseous. It must’ve been the lack of food before they left for the day, she rationalized. But as her nausea grew, a part of her wondered if she might be pregnant.

It can’t be happening yet, don’t get ahead of yourself.

Jag had held her hair back as she became ill. What should’ve been a romantic stroll through the spot of her favorite classic musical became a moment of classic embarrassment as she emptied the contents of her stomach. But he’d been a gentleman about it like always, and like always, he looked handsome with his finely fitted button down and khakis. Her man was hot.

“You want to keep going?” he asked once she finished.

“No, let’s go back to the hotel. I’m not feeling well. I need to lie down.”

“Okay.”

Holding her hand, Jag brought her back the way they came. They parked not far away on a side street. He helped her in and she closed her eyes to stop the spinning. Halfway back to the hotel, in their tiny rental car, she asked him to stop off at a pharmacy.

He didn’t put two and two together until she came back with her purchase.

“Got your pill?”

Sammi covered her mouth to hide her laughter.

“What’s so funny?”

“You really have no idea what I was buying here, after I was nauseous and threw up?”
Even after all those times you finished inside me?

She waited.

He usually wasn’t dense like this, so she laughed even harder. Jag finally lit up with excitement. “You’re pregnant,” he exclaimed.

She stopped laughing and patted his knee. “Easy there, we don’t know yet. Either I’m pregnant or the duck didn’t go over so well last night.”

“I’m betting on the baby. The duck tasted delicious. No way that would’ve caused it.”

Sammi gave him the side eye as they took off back to the hotel. “This isn’t something to bet on. It’s not like a sporting event.”

“I’m betting on the baby,” he repeated. Try as she might, she couldn’t wipe that smug grin off his face.

Her mouth tasted sour and her stomach rumbled. Sammi leaned back and relaxed while Jag kept trying to get her to drink some water.

“You’re so excited for me to pee, aren’t you?”

It was sweet. Almost too sweet.

Jag wanted a baby as much as she did.

Back in the hotel’s front drop off, the valet took the car off their hands. Gripping her hand tightly, Jag led the way up to the top floor. They couldn’t get inside to the bathroom fast enough. As she went in, Jag waited impatiently on the other side.

She had a little performance anxiety as she sat down, but eventually she peed on the thing. “You might be waiting a while,” she called out to him.

“Should I go away?”

Sammi stood up and brought the test over to the counter. It didn’t read anything yet, but she remained staring at it. Her heart thudded against her chest and her palms grew sweaty, as she wiped them off on her thighs. The nausea she felt earlier had passed, replaced with nervous excitement.

It took about five minutes for the results to come in…

A big green check mark slowly appeared.

Sammi held her chest with one hand while steadying herself with the other. She wanted to hoot in celebration, but before she did, she showed Jag the wand.

“It’s positive,” she bellowed. As soon as he saw the green check, he lifted her up and swung her around.

After he put her back down, she felt like she was still spinning.

“We’ll check again later. And then we’ll go to the doctor to confirm. I’m so happy right now.”

She gazed up into his beautiful face, the face of the man she’d always loved. It had been her dream to look upon that face every morning and night.

Now she lived that dream.

And there were still plenty more adventures, and loving, to do in the long run.

Sammi grabbed his belt. Her fingers curled around the buckle to snap it off. Before she could, Jag sauntered back, drawing her with him to the bed.

Getting closer, he turned her around and tossed her onto it playfully. He landed on top of her, caging her wrists above her head. His weight pinned her to the sheets, the heat blazing in their eyes.

“How about we make extra sure the test is correct?” Jag asked as he pulled up her shirt and kissed her stomach tenderly.

“That’s fine with me, Jag. As long as we keep traveling. We’ll get through all of our vacation, won’t me?”

“We’ll do it all. Just like we planned.”

Sammi squirmed underneath him, but he pressed his weight down, keeping her in place. Giving him her finest seductive look, she bit her lip. She curled her toes as she anticipated his lips up and down the whole of her body.

A happy home, and a family with the love of her life.

“I never thought I deserved to be this happy,” she confessed.

“Now you’ve got to believe it.”

Jag went right back to loving her. He kissed her lips, her forehead, her breasts. Sammi reached for the sheets, twisting them with her fingers as the pleasure overwhelmed her.

It was all so new, but Sammi Jo was living the fairytale she’d always dreamed of. And Jag would be there, always, to keep her believing it.
