Orion lay on the ground before her dead.  “You would never have been gifted with such power.”  She laughed at the man who had demanded that they attack the compound and kill the Alphas so he could take control of the Atlanta Pack.

Diane looked around at the wolves that were already beginning to assemble.  Josh Campbell was sending them as he turned them.  Most of them needed
training; she would make sure they knew exactly what they needed to do.

Diane raised her arm that h
eld a syringe.  “The Redeemer knows what you need.  A leader, someone who will take care of his people until he is returned to us.  And he will be, soon.”

The wolves s
hifted and watched and Diane plunged the needle into her neck.  They howled loudly as she fell to the ground and began to change into a wolf.

The Drekinn Book Four

By Jana Leigh

She went to the door, and felt her heart begin to beat harder.  They were there on the other side of the door.  Since she had met them, it had been a constant arousal when she was around them all the time.  It didn’t matter when they were arguing over something to eat, and then checking out the SAT TV, and so on.  They were like sex on a stick and she was ready to take a lick.

Hello?” Sydney called and she grinned when Kiki sang her name and Thomas groaned loudly and pounded on the door.

Please, don’t make me kill him,” Thomas roared.

Sydney opened the door and smiled shyly at the men who stood waiting for her.  She actually wanted to laugh aloud when she saw their mouths drop a little at her appearance.

“Cupcake, you were beautiful before, but right now, you are drop dead gorgeous.”  Kiki smiled and tugged her out of the room and closed the door.

We are the luckiest men alive tonight,” Thomas muttered and took a hand, tucking it in the crook of his arm, and then smiled when Kiki did the same thing.

Oh snap, the guys are gonna be on the prowl,” Kiki growled and bumped hips with her.

Sydney rolled her eyes and shook her head.  It was crazy, she knew she had a mission, but right now, she couldn
’t remember what it was.  Kiki and Thomas looked amazing.  As they led her down the hallway, she caught a glimpse of the three of them in a mirror, she had to admit they made a striking trio.

She had been here for a couple of weeks, and she still had not seen the whole place yet.  She looked and took note of certain places she thought Ms. Praton w
ould likely be.  Like the library, surely a woman of her stature would spend time in a library.

So what is the deal here?” Sydney said finally.  “I am assuming everyone will be there tonight, who exactly will be there though?”

Everyone,” Kiki laughed.

Oh, like the Alphas?” Sydney pressed a little.

Sure,” Thomas shrugged and said, “plus, everyone and their brother, too.”

Sydney wanted to yell in frustration.  How was she ever going to find the woman she wanted to talk to if no one ever seemed to menti
on her?  She bit her lip and thought about all she knew, which of course lately was more about herself than Ms. Praton.  They had shown her her ancestors and read her history about the Chosen until her head was spinning.

What about the Drekinn before, you know, when you didn’t know all about this stuff?” she asked.

That was Ms. Praton and Brooks who built the Drekinn Agency to what it was.  They worked tirelessly together to make sure they were able to protect shifters and magical creatures as well as humans,” Kiki said.  “You know, I wonder if Brooks and Pilar will get together finally, I mean enter a room with them in it, and it is like fireworks, they love to argue about every thing.”

Thomas snorted and said, “
I wonder if they have a third as well.  They would have their own built-in referee.”

Pilar was nice, I haven’t met Brooks or Ms. Praton,” Sydney admitted slowly thinking she may have suddenly caught a break.

The men looked at her and frowned and Kiki was about to say something when there was a cry
from down the hallway.  Sydney turned in enough time to see a gaggle of women cheering and talking to one another about something.

Oh hell,” Thomas said and tightened his hand on hers that rested on his arm.

What is the excitement?!” Kiki yelled and Sydney saw three gorgeous women turn and look at them.  Calli, Cherri, and Rissa, the head bitches in charge.  That was the only words she could use to describe the three.

According to rumor, they were all lethal and smart.  Since they started with the Dre
kinn, they had made it a mission to make a better life for shifters.  Cherri was the Head of the Medical Research, while Rissa the Head of Tech.  However, Calli was an Alpha through and through.  She was the head of the security.  Calli could make someone shake in fear with one look.  Sydney knew first hand when she first met the Alpha Bitch, as she liked to be referred as, Calli scared the shit out of her.

Kiki!!” Rissa yelled and ran down the hallway.  If Sydney hadn’t known the woman’s reputation, she would have called her a cute puppy.  Realistically she should be afraid—the woman was crazy.  “I know this is about you and your mates tonight, but I couldn’t keep a secret, Calli and Cherri are miffed, but they will get over it.”

Ris, tell us!” Kiki said in exasperation.  He knew if his best friend got on a roll, that would be it.  They would be standing there for hours listening to her life story, again.

Love of a Shifter Series Book Two

by Bryce Evans

River drove further into Colorado wondering what she was going to do now.  She had thought about going to one of the ski lodges seeking some type of work.  She could waitress, cook, or clean.  River knew she would do just about anything for a roof over her head and food to eat.  The money she had when she ran was just about out.  She had used most of it for gas and the motel she rented for the night three days ago.  She had been sleeping in her car since she left the motel.  She didn’t want to take the chance of someone following her home to Mary’s so she left the restaurant with the money she had in her purse and what Mary had given her before she left.  The rest of her money was locked inside Mary’s house.

She was starving too.  Her st
omach felt like it was eating her insides out.  River went days without eating, saving the money for gas.  She had learned to drink a lot of water in order to make her stomach believe it was full.  She learned early on in life that being hungry kept you going.  She was a fighter and knew how to do without.  With very little clothing and keepsakes, River disciplined herself to pack light, because material things only slowed you down.  She kept traveling from town to town knowing she was going to have to leave again.  A friend was something she couldn’t afford.

Her entire life had been a hard road for River.  Living in an orphanage in New York City at the age of four taught you to do without and keep your head down.  However, she didn
’t always manage to stay out of trouble.  She ran away numerous times because of the beatings and how they treated her and the others.  They used a belt at the orphanage to discipline the kids.  At least that was what they called it—“discipline”.  River called it abuse, and how nobody reported those people she never understood why.  River tried to repress most of those terrible times she got the beatings, but the nightmares would always bring them back.  She lived there for two years then she was shipped off to another orphanage in New Mexico where she lived until she was sixteen years old.  Finally, she ran away living off the streets, working odd jobs just to stay alive.  Her special gifts kept her out of trouble for the majority of her younger years, until she turned twenty-five years old.

That
’s when she met him.

Paddock Reed was the best-looking man she had ever seen.  He had those bad boy looks River craved in a man.  He came in the restaurant she worked at every night asking for her to be his waitress.  He tipped big and fl
irted with her all the time.  That should have said something to her.  She knew nothing was free in life.  Everyone wanted something from you.  He seemed to be a rich man and he was acting as if she was the best thing since sliced bread.  Clue number one. She thought she was in love with Paddock until the night he revealed his true self to her.

River shivered as she remembered that terrible night she had agreed to meet Paddock at his house.  He lived in a huge mansion across town.  The mansion had twenty
acres of trees hiding it from the public eye.  Clue number two.  River found out soon enough why he lived so far out away from other people.

She was excited because Paddock had told her he wanted to talk to her about something important that would chang
e her life forever.  River knew she was stupid and immature.  But those stupid fairytale dreams girls had pulled her into his web of terror.  Clue number three.  Who would want to marry her?

She lived too much in those romance books she read.  Little did
she know her life was going to change again and romance had nothing to do with it.

When River pulled up in Paddock
’s driveway, she looked out the passenger side window with her mouth open.  The house looked haunted to her.  The eye-like windows appeared to be looking at her.  Grim images flooded her mind as she looked up at the house.  Death was what she had seen and felt as she walked up the porch and knocked on the door.  Clue number four.  Instincts were what she should have used, but River was too young and dreamy-eyed to take heed to her own gut feelings.

Paddock met her at the door with a gluten smile as he welcomed her into the living room area.  Looking around, she could tell the house was gloomy and out of date.  The lights were dimmed and the ro
om looked out of the sixteen hundreds.  She remembered the way her skin crawled as he touched her.  Never had she felt such death in a room before.  Her mind and body were telling her to get out of the house, but her stupidity and romantic fantasy she created wouldn’t allow her to leave.

I guess you’re wondering why I called you here tonight?”  River nodded, as she smiled up at Paddock who came to sit beside her.

You see, River, I can smell you and it calls to me.  You will stay here with me.”

River rem
embered how naive she was.  She actually thought he was talking about how he loved her not that he wanted to suck her blood and make her his play toy that he could drain every night.  The demanding voice he used should have made her get up and run out the door, but NO, she had to lose every bit of sense God gave her.  Clue number five.

She muttered, “
You want me to move in here with you?”
