By mid afternoon, Heather settled down for a nap, so Justin took advantage of the time to go home to freshen up.  It felt good to take a hot shower, and Justin longed to lie down in his own bed, but he wouldn’t let himself.  He needed to get back to the hospital.  He made Peter promise to stay with Heather until he got back.  Peter always seemed to be making one excuse or another to leave the hospital, whether it was to check on the electronics store or run an errand.

Justin wished Peter would make more of an effort to stay with Heather.  Peter didn
’t need to do anything, maybe that was the problem, but Peter should at least want to be there for moral support.

Justin took a little extra time to fix his hair and makeup before he left for the hospital.
He was still unsure if he would act on his flirtation with Kenny or not, but he wanted to look good just in case.

Heather was still asleep when Justin got back to the hospital, but Peter was gone.  Justin checked the bathroom, but he didn’t want to venture too far. He didn’t want Heather to wake up to an empty room.

Justin
’s agitated foot tapped on the floor.  Where the hell was Peter?  Justin took another quick look down the hall and spotted Peter getting off of the elevator.  Justin shook his head and waited inside Heather’s room.  He didn’t want to make a scene in the middle of the I.C.U.

Where the hell were you?”

Peter stopped in the doorway, surprised by Justin
’s outburst.  “I was in the lounge.  I had to make a phone call.”

Justin pulled Peter into the room.
“You promised me you wouldn’t leave until I got back.  What the hell is wrong with you?”

Relax.  I was gone for 15 minutes.  It’s not a big deal.”

Of course it’s a big deal.” Justin lowered his voice.  He didn’t want to wake Heather.  “She’s scared, Peter.  She doesn’t want to be alone.  She needs someone with her.”

Peter apologized, and it sounded sincere.  Justin was surprised, but it didn
’t matter.  He wasn’t ready to accept Peter’s apology.  Peter needed to treat Heather better.  She was needy and dependent, and Peter really had no clue how to handle her.  Sometimes Justin thought that Heather was too much of an emotional burden for Peter.  They didn’t talk much while they waited for Heather to wake up, and Justin knew that Peter felt bad.

Kenny walked in and brightened the room with his lighthearted, whimsical smile.
“How is everybody doing today?”  He took a step closer to Heather. “Is she asleep?”

Justin smiled at Kenny.
“Yeah. I didn’t want to wake her.  She had a hard time today, but she did good.”

Did they get her out of bed and walking?” Kenny asked.

Yeah.  But we helped her a lot.”

I had nothing to do with it,” Peter said.  “It was all Justin.  I wouldn’t know what to do if he wasn’t here.”

Of course you would,” Justin said.  “You just need to be there for her, Peter.  It’s common sense.  I wish you would stop being so self-absorbed all the time.  Heather needs you.”

The tension in Justin
’s voice made Kenny uneasy.  “Uhhh, I was going to the cafeteria for coffee before my shift starts,” he said.  “Justin, would you like to join me?  You can fill me in on Heather’s day so I know what to expect when she wakes up.”

The smile returned to Justin
’s face.  Kenny was flirting with him. He wanted to jump at the opportunity, but he didn’t trust Peter to stay put.  “I’m sorry.  I can’t.  I need to be here when she wakes up.”

Go,” Peter said.  “I’ll wait.”

Justin smirked at him.

“I swear.  I won’t leave again.  I don’t want her to wake and find no one here.  Go.”

Peter was trying to make amends.  Maybe he finally realized that he needed to be more respectful of Heather
’s feelings. It was about damn time.

OK,” Justin said, “but please don’t make me regret this, Peter.”

Justin stirred his coffee at the tiny cafeteria table and eyed Kenny’s light blue scrubs.  The little rectangular name tag pinned to Kenny’s chest read,
Kenneth Henderson, R.N.

How long have you been a nurse?” Justin asked.

About 10 years.  My dream was always to become a doctor, but I love my job.  Now I just tell myself that maybe I’ll meet a hot doctor one day instead.”  Kenny smiled, placed his elbows on the table and leaned forward.  “You wouldn’t happen to be a doctor by any chance, would you?”

Justin laughed.
“No, I’m a stylist.”  He knew they weren’t here to talk about Heather.  He rotated his coffee cup in his hands and mustered up his courage.  “Can I take you out to dinner one night when you’re off?”

Kenny
’s eye’s shined with excitement.  “I’d love that.”

Me too.”  He paused.  “I’m not sure if Heather will be OK without me, though.  I may have to wait until she feels a little better.”

I understand completely.  I can wait.”  Kenny rested his chin on his hand.  “How come someone as gorgeous as you isn’t taken?”

A wide smile spread across Justin
’s face as he absorbed the compliment.

I’m serious,” Kenny said.  “Why hasn’t someone snatched you up?”

Well, if you want the truth, I was in a long term relationship that ended badly . . . a little over two years ago.”  He shrugged. “I guess I haven’t found anyone to settle down with since then.  What about you?”

I broke up with a guy about a month ago.  It wasn’t serious. He was a musician, and it just wasn’t my scene.  He was a sweetheart, but we really didn’t have anything in common.”

Justin barely paid attention to what Kenny was saying.  Kenny
’s full, moist lips, and the glimmer of his tongue as he spoke, distracted Justin.  He wanted to reach across the table, grab Kenny by the back of the neck and plant a hard, wet kiss on Kenny’s mouth.  The urge to lift Kenny’s shirt to see what was under those hot sexy scrubs was almost too much to control.  He didn’t know how long he could wait.  “When do you think they’ll let Heather go home?” he asked.

Her bloods are coming back fine and the kidney is doing its job, so probably in four or five days.”

That soon?”

I know she’s still in a lot of pain, but she’s doing very well.  You’d be surprised how fast the body heals.”  Kenny smiled. “Then maybe we can go on that date.”

I don’t want to wait that long.  How about an early dinner tomorrow afternoon, before your shift?”

That sounds like a great idea, as long as Heather is gonna be OK.  I see the way she clings to you.”

I think she’ll be fine, especially when she’s hears I’m going out with you.”

Chapter Twenty-Two:

When Justin arrived at the restaurant, Kenny was already seated at a table waiting for him.  Justin picked The Carltun because it was located in
the middle of a 900 acre oasis filled with lush green fields and willowy trees. The restaurant was the star of Eisenhower Park. After dinner, the park would offer privacy from the bustling activity of the large restaurant, and it was the perfect setting for a possible romantic interlude. The Carltun itself was the prelude to romance with its expansive fountain out front, the grand piano in the entry hall, and the tableside marble fireplace.  He hoped he wasn’t being too obvious.

As t
hey greeted each other with a hug, Kenny’s hard pecs pressed against Justin’s chest and the round muscles of Kenny’s shoulders met Justin’s hands.  His eyes drifted down to Kenny’s tight jeans and back to Kenny’s twinkling green eyes.  Justin had no idea the loose fitting scrubs hid what appeared to be Kenny’s perfect body.

It was hard for Justin to concentrate on their c
onversation.  Every few seconds his eyes darted down to admire the silhouette of Kenny’s muscular chest.  It was clearly defined, almost straining, under the fitted tee.  Justin licked his lips.  He wanted this boy – bad.

#

Justin took Kenny’s hand as they walked through Eisenhower Park.  It was a clear, sunny, spring day with a light breeze.  The trees were in bloom, and red and yellow tulips dotted the outskirts of the pedestrian path that led them through the lush park.  Justin inhaled the crisp floral scents that surrounded him and draped his arm over Kenny’s shoulder.  Kenny smiled at him and slid his arm around his waist.  They strolled down the paved walkway at a leisurely pace, without saying anything.

Forget conversation.  All he could think about was kissing Kenny.  Justin couldn
’t hold out any longer and suddenly stopped. He placed one hand behind Kenny’s neck and pressed his mouth firmly onto Kenny’s lips.  Justin was hungry.  Thirsty.  His succulent lips drained the saliva from Kenny’s mouth as the electricity sparked in the air around them.  Their lips slowly parted and he gazed into Kenny’s prismatic eyes.  Justin had no idea that one kiss would leave him so aroused.  He took another kiss.  This time he pulled Kenny’s body into his.  Justin had to remind himself that they were in a public place, and it caused him to smile with provocation.

I can’t wait to get you alone,” he whispered into Kenny’s ear.  “I’m gonna do things to you that are gonna drive you insane.”

Kenny emitted a soft laugh.
“You’re an animal, aren’t you?”

You have no fucking idea.”

Another deep kiss, and he grinded his erection into Kenny
’s pelvis.  Justin had no inhibition in the crowded park.  Kenny, however, was much more modest.  Kenny stepped back slightly and his cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink.

Kenny
’s shyness made Justin smile.  He nuzzled Kenny’s cheek and whispered, “I’m sorry.  I can’t help myself.  Your kisses are driving me fucking crazy.”

Their faces linge
red a fraction of an inch apart and he inhaled Kenny’s warm breath.  Another kiss, and again, he needed to remind himself that they weren’t alone.  His hands were glued to Kenny’s body and their mouths were drawn together like an electromagnetic force.  Justin could barely control himself.  His snug jeans crushed his erection.  He put his hand down the front of his pants and adjusted himself to relieve the pressure.  Kenny glanced at the ground, then looked back up with a crooked smile and half-closed eyes.  “Where’s your car parked?”

#

Justin turned on the car stereo, but Kenny turned it off.

“We’re not here
to listen to the radio, honey.”

Kenny’s gre
en eyes sparked in the sunlight and they had a hint of mischief in them, like a cat ready to pounce.

Justin gave Ken
ny a long, hard kiss.  The taste of Kenny’s mouth was sweet and warm, and his tongue was soft.  Justin’s erection grew with every kiss and he put Kenny’s hand on it.

Kenny pulled at Justin’s belt buckle
.  He pulled down the zipper and Justin sprang out of the constraints of the rigid denim.  Kenny leaned down and put his lips to it, running his tongue over the tip, before he put the whole thing in his mouth.  His touch was gentle, yet it evoked a powerful emotion.

Justin leaned his head against the head rest and reclined the back of the seat a little.  He placed his hand on the back of Kenny’s head, gently guiding it up and down.  He felt the back of Kenny’s throat, but he wanted to go deeper.  He wanted to infiltrate Kenny’s entire mouth.  He put gentle pressure on the back of Kenny’s head.  Kenny gagged a little, but bore down harder and rotated his mouth in a slow, circular motion.  Eac
h turn of Kenny’s jaw sent a flood of endorphines up the center of Justin’s chest.  He clenched the steering wheel with both hands and tucked his chin into his chest, while he let out several heavy breaths.  Kenny pressed down further.  Justin could feel Kenny’s lips all the way down at the base, touching the soft skin that cushioned his pelvic bone.  Kenny’s throat was endless.  It was warm and squishy.  It was made for Justin, waiting for him to fill its void.  Justin’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, as the sensation grew steadily stronger.  He thought he was going to rip it right off the steering column. He let out a loud moan and exploded.  His whole body shook while Kenny suckled every drop of fluid from his body.

Chapter Twenty-Three:

Heather was exhausted, but she couldn
’t sleep.  She was too excited about Justin’s date with Kenny.  She felt like a giddy teenager again while she waited for him, but her body reminded her differently.  She needed Peter’s assistance just to sit up in bed.

At last, Justin waltzed into her room, grinning from ear to ear.

“How did it go?” she immediately asked.  “Did you guys make out?”

Peter scolded her.
“Heather, leave the guy alone.  That’s personal.”

Personal?”  Justin threw his head back and laughed.  “There’s nothing personal between me and Heather.  I hear it all, Peter, and so does she.  Don’t you know that by now?”
