Dear Reader

I’ve so enjoyed bringing a set of identical twins to the
American Mail-Order Brides Series
. I have cousins who are twins (everyone else says they’re identical, but I can tell them apart without difficulty) and twin niece and nephew. I always wanted to have a set of twins (kind of like getting two for the price of one). But I never had that opportunity.

Because of the nature of my story with identical twin sisters who are otherwise alone in the world, it was necessary for Josie’s home base to be in Ogden, Utah Territory, along with her sister. But the separation that tests new marriages and allows sisters to redefine their personal understanding of the limits of love will take Josie into the wilds of New Mexico, where her husband’s mining company has a strong hold. I hope it’s evident to readers that Josie’s attachment to New Mexico is permanent and meaningful.

Josie Anne Hadley Taylor’s identical twin sister’s story is told in book #45 in the series,
Lessie: Bride of Utah
. The books truly do stand alone. They’re entirely independent, but chances are if you enjoyed
Josie: Bride of New Mexico
, you’ll also enjoy Lessie’s story.

Prior to researching for this book, I knew very little about
New Mexico
, though I’ve lived in Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Utah, and California… pretty much surrounded it. I’ve driven through it so many times it’s frightening. It was a pleasure reliving old road trip memories to visualize the New Mexico landscape, arid environment, the magnificence of stormy skies and clear skies too. If you’ve ever visited
Carlsbad Caverns
, you’ll understand why I say images like that will remain with a person forever.

As a side-note, I took a bit of artistic license with the gorge and bridge where the villain blows up the private rail car one mile away from the Las Cruces rail depot. This is an entirely fictional set of circumstances.

New Mexico became the 47th state on January 6, 1912. In the setting of this book (1890) New Mexico remains a territory and will for another 22 years.

Whether you know New Mexico well or this is your first introduction to what was once a territory encompassing Arizona and part of California, I’d like to hear your thoughts about JOSIE: BRIDE OF NEW MEXICO. You can easily reach me

About the Author

I recall the winter of my first grade year, basking in the heat from our fireplace in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dad read aloud Madeline L'Engle's A WRINKLE IN TIME and Mom peeled orange segments for us to enjoy. That was the definitive moment I fell in love with fiction.
I write sweet (wholesome) romances set in the 19th Century American West. I'm newly active in a fantastic Facebook group for authors and readers of Western Historical Romances: Join the fun at
