Lela immediately started crying at the sound of Nathan’s words.

“The ball has tortured you long enough. Mind you, you and Eldrich still have a difficult road ahead, but I hope that now that the golden ball is no more, your road will have fewer obstacles and that you may enjoy long moments of peace and happiness.”

“Thank you, thank you. I cannot express my gratitude,” Lela said.

Nathan smiled and nodded. “Do not let go of each other’s hands. Good luck to you.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

In what seemed like mere seconds, Lela, Lady Rema, and Eldrich were standing in front of the Barmoth castle.

Lady Rema fell to the ground and kissed it. “Oh, I shall never leave you again.”

Lela winked at Eldrich who immediately took her in his arms and squeezed her tight. “My love, are you happy to be home?” he asked.

“I’m happy to be with you…and yes, I’m also happy to be home,” she said.

The moon shone down on them.

“I have much work to do,” Lady Rema said. “Gods only know what state the castle is in.”

“I’m sure the servants and caretakers have done a good job taking care of it in our absence.”

“Don’t be so sure. They tend to get lazy when they know no one is watching,” Lady Rema said, wringing her hands.

“Oh for goodness sake, go on, before you explode,” Lela said.

“Are you sure you’re fine?” Lady Rema asked Lela.

“Yes, yes, now go. I will come see you in the morning.”

“I missed you,” Eldrich said, once Lady Rema was gone.

“And I missed you.”

Xavier came to Lela’s mind. Eldrich hadn’t mentioned him.

“Has Xavier gone back to the Kingdom of the Lost?” she asked.

“Yes. He fought at my side. I will forever be grateful to him.”

Xavier, if you can hear my thoughts, thank you for everything you did to protect me, to help Eldrich. I will never forget you.

“I want to be alone with you. I want to touch you and kiss you and…,” Eldrich said.

“You’re going to make me blush.”

“Then you better come home with me before I’m forced to tell you all the things I want to do to you.”

Lela looked away.

“Is something the matter?” Eldrich asked.

She returned her eyes to him, but kept silent. Her moments with Peter rushed into her mind.

Eldrich hugged her. “Sweet darling of mine, we don’t have to do anything. Please forgive my insensitivity. What can I do to help you forget?”

“I was tempted. I almost had sex with Peter. I let him do some things to me. I’m ashamed,” Lela said, tears beginning to form.

“My love, you must know something about me as well. I too was tempted.”

“By Gretel?”

“Yes, she tried to seduce me. I almost gave in, but I swear to you, I didn’t have sex with her. I swear it.”

“It seems we both almost betrayed each other. What do we do now?” Lela asked.

Scooping her into his arms, he sprinted into the forest. When they got to his house, he took her up the stairs and placed her on the bed.

“Are you hungry? Tell me what you need, love,” he said.

She took a moment to look at him, to absorb him. She was overwhelmed by love for him.

“Just one kiss, that’s all I need,” she said.

He came in close to her and brought his lips to hers. Her entire body tingled from his touch. He kissed her softly for a long time and she surrendered herself to him once more. Her thoughts were only on him. No one else mattered. Nothing else mattered.

Pulling his lips away, he said, “Are you well? I can leave you alone so you can sleep. Oh, darling, I don’t want you to be sad.”

“I’m not sad, sweet prince. I’m relieved and happy. You make me happy.”

“I’m going to get sappy. I can’t help it,” he said.

“By all means,” she said, smiling.

“I love you so much. I want you to be happy, always. I want to make you laugh, get to know you more. I want us to take long walks in the forest, and hold hands, and kiss, and love each other. I will do anything for you, anything. I’d kill for you, die for you.” He was crying.

“Don’t cry, love of mine. We’re together, now. We’re safe. Gretel and her vampires can’t hurt us anymore,” Lela said.

“I need to tell you the rest of the story. The one Nathan spoke of.”

Lela nodded. She was so glad he was choosing to tell her on his own without her having to prod him.

“Vampires are vicious, by nature. We’re also jealous beings, so much so that we’re willing to go to war for the smallest of things.” He sat on the edge of the bed. “When angels tried to help your people, when they tried to help them stop killing each other over gold, the God of the Cross abandoned them. Angels are never supposed to make themselves known to humans. The God of the Cross forbids it. But the angels, now fallen, refused to stop trying to help the humans of Barmoth. So they sought the help of a different god.”

“The God of the Sea,” Lela said.

“Precisely. They prayed to him, pleaded with him. He’s a vain god and could not resist them. After all, angels were begging for his help. He agreed to help them.” Eldrich cleared his throat. “He swallowed all of Barmoth’s gold. He took all of it into the sea. Once the gold was gone, the violence between your people stopped and in time, sanity and tranquility returned to Barmoth.”

From what Lela saw in Nathan’s dining room, not all of the gold was hidden in the ocean. He kept some of it for himself, a vain god, indeed.

Lela sat up and put her hand on Eldrich’s shoulder. “What does any of this have to do with vampires? With the war between vampires and angels?”

“Vampires hate angels. Yes, even I hated them. Angels are conceited creatures who believe that because the God of the Cross created them, they are above all other beings. When we found out that a god, that the God of the Sea had helped angels, we grew angry. You see, a long time ago, two vampire lovers who went sailing, even though they had no command of the sea, encountered a storm which turned over their boat. These were young, naïve vampires. When they cried out to the God of the Sea for help, he ignored them and they drowned. But, because they were immortal, they were cursed to reside in the ocean for all eternity. Don’t you see? The God of the Sea could have returned them to land, but he chose not to. It’s so cruel, so very cruel. They are lost at sea with no way of returning to land. Some vampires searched for them but alas, they were never found.”

“Oh, Eldrich, I’m sorry. Did you know them?”

“One of them was my brother whom I had recently made into a vampire. I saved him from the sickness that was claiming his spirit and his body.”

Lela’s heart hurt for him. She knew he was still keeping things from her, but she never expected to find out that such a tragic event was part of his past.

“We cursed the God of the Sea. We stood on the beach and cursed him every night. We tormented him, calling him a weak god, a wretched god, a despicable god. We did this for ten years until the God of the Sea could no longer take it. He’s a proud god who can’t stand any being despising him, even vampires. He offered us a truce. If we could destroy all fallen angels, therefore cleaning his slate with us and burying that part of his history, he would offer us a way to be mortal again. We accepted.”

“Once you thought you had killed all the fallen angels, he offered you the golden ball?”

“Yes. The golden ball was our path to mortality. Nathan told us that the golden ball would someday choose a human to follow and that that human’s blood would make us mortal again.”

“Oh, Eldrich, I have no words.”

“I’m still hoping that someday Nathan will free my brother.”

Lela now understood why Eldrich remained loyal and subservient to Nathan.

She kissed the back of his neck.

“I want you,” he said.

“And I need you.”

He turned around and pushed her on her back. Then he ripped open the top of her dress and inhaled her breasts, kissing and touching them as if this was going to be the last time he would see them. He lightly bit her nipples, making her cry out his name. He then went under her dress and lost himself in her pussy. Arching her back, she continued screaming his name which only drove him crazier and he went deeper into her.

When he finally emerged, he lifted her, turned her around and demanded she grab hold of the bed’s headrest. Lela did not know what he was going to do next.

He slapped her buttocks hard.

She screamed, “Harder. Hit me harder. I deserve to be spanked.”

And he did. He pressed his throbbing cock on her buttocks.

“Oh gods, yes, please, do it.”

“Do what?”

“Fuck me.”

“Say it again.”

“Fuck me.”

“Say it with my name.”

“Eldrich, fuck me, for hell’s sake, fuck me.”

“No. I shall spank you some more first. You’ve been a naughty girl and I’m not done punishing you.”

He hit her again.

“I want you,” she screamed. “I want all of you.”

He got up from the bed and then reached for her. Lifting her, she wrapped her legs high around him. They slammed into a wall.

“Will you give me what I want?” she asked, her pussy so wet she was going to faint.

“No.”

“Eldrich, you’re horrid.”

“I’m in love with you. Hopelessly in love with you. You drive me mad.”

“Then what are you waiting for?”

“I need to drink from you. It’s been too long.”

He sank his fangs into her breasts and drank like a wild animal having just encountered fresh meat.

And then he entered her. Sweet gods, how she had missed him.

He fucked her hard, not taking a single moment to breath. He just kept on plunging into her and she experienced orgasm after orgasm.

“Eldrich,” she whispered.

“Yes, my love.”

“Are you mine?”

“Always.”

“Will my blood make you mortal someday?” She finally asked the question she wanted to ask him for so long.

He stopped rocking her.

Looking into her eyes, he said, “I don’t know. Does it matter?”

“Do you want to be mortal again?”

“I want to be with you. I don’t seek mortality from you if that’s what you’re thinking. If you don’t believe me, I shall never drink another drop from you.”

“I believe you.” And she did. He was true to her; her heart and soul would not deceive her.

They fell on the bed together, cradling each other, crying and laughing together.

“Tell me you love me,” he said.

“I love you,” she said.

“Oh, Lela, I haven’t been this happy in one hundred years.”

Someday, she would die and leave Eldrich. But right at this moment, they had each other and she’d only think happy thoughts.

“Tomorrow morning, I will go and see Lady Rema. It’s time I took my place as Queen of Barmoth.”

“You’re going to be a great queen.”

“I hope so, I really hope so.”

Eldrich pushed his cock into her once more. She closed her eyes and only thought of him and the pleasure she was feeling, the sweet, wonderful pleasure his swollen cock was giving her. If she died right now, she’d die in peace, because she was with the man she loved. When she first met Eldrich she was a naïve princess who knew nothing about anything let alone sex. And now, she was a woman, a queen, and a lover.

Her life with Eldrich would not be easy; that much she knew, but she didn’t care. She’d lead her people and live happily ever after with her prince, the Prince of the Barmoth Vampires.
