PROLOGUE

The
concrete jungle is a myriad of skyscrapers bundled together.
Only the brave, mighty and ruthless survive
in this crowded wilderness.

Within its walls, a great and mighty lion roams the vicinity,
looking for what he can devour next, but there is nothing left – he almost has
it all. The only thing left for him to conquer is the throne. He knows that it
will not be given to him, so he has to forcefully take it. As he walks to his
destination, all the other animals, prey and predators alike, bow and give way
to him. He is fearsome in his stride. The lionesses roar at him, hoping to get
noticed, but his piercing blue eyes do not waver. They are fixed on the path
ahead. His concentration does not falter. There are one or two defiant lions
that do not bow or give way to him. They are the friends of the present king.
He roars a mighty and powerful roar that sends fear deep into the hearts of his
foes.

The path is made visible as his enemies reluctantly give way.
He looks back at his would-be subjects and a beautiful bird flies and puts a
crown of beautiful flowers on his head. Everyone cheers happily, except his
enemies. He roars in acknowledgement at his supporters, turns around, and gazes
at the throne ahead.

Ahead is a shining beacon of light, far up in the sky that
pierces deep into his ice-cold eyes. He runs towards the light, faster than a
cheetah, quicker than a bolt of lightning. He stands beneath the throne. It is
a tortuous and devastatingly steep road up ahead. Able to adapt to any
situation, he develops the flexibility and agility of a leopard and climbs upwards.
The climb is frightening, but he knows no fear. He looks down midway through,
and the population watches in anticipation, but as he looks up, the present
king has a look of evil in his eyes, clearly wishing for his downfall, and this
only makes him more determined. He rushes upwards with sheer magnificence and
reaches the light that burns brightly on top of the Statue of Liberty.

At the top are the present king and his
confidante. They rush towards him and a great battle ensues. Thunder rolls in the
sky as the mighty beasts fight for the throne. Only one comes out victorious as
two lions fall from grace down into the depths below.

He stands mightily at the highest peak of the statue. Head held
high as the wind blows through his dark-blonde mane, he feels liberated, free
to be king and to rule as he pleases.

His
subjects cheer rapturously and bow to him as the old king and his confidante
walk away in shame at being dethroned.

“Long live the king!” proclaims an old, wise parrot.

“Long live the king,” exclaim all the other animals.

He roars with pride as the beautiful birds sing a sweet song
of triumph.

The throne is his, his coronation is complete!
Long live the King of the Concrete Jungle!

CHAPTER 1

Calmly leaving the scene of the
crime is a lone white male, with dark-blonde hair. He enters his waiting
Bentley and he is driven away, never to return to the scene.

The
passenger’s cold-blooded deed ravages his thoughts as the sun pierces the glass
of his chauffeured vehicle. Money and power is all the elusive passenger thinks
of as the chaotic and beautiful sounds of the opera he is listening to ooze
soothingly through the quadraphonic speakers. His thinking is grave, almost
profound, but lacks emotion. The unforgiving sun glares at him as if it has noticed
blood on his hands. He curses at the heat of the fireball ninety-three million
miles away flooding into his piercing ice-blue eyes. Calmly he puts on his
Ray-Ban shades and closes his eyes.

There
is a profound aura of danger about him. Nonetheless, he is handsome, ruggedly
handsome, with a wicked smile that can melt a million hearts, that is when, and
if, he smiles. He is clad in the finest Italian suit, with the highest thread
count possible; it fits him like a glove. The suit, like all of his other suits,
makes him look leaner and sleeker than he already is.
He is a man of
class, style, extravagance, wit, charm, intellect, virtue, and genius. But his
genius is not simply academic – it surpasses academia and enters the world of
crime. He is tall and of slim-medium build with broad shoulders and pure lean
muscle inside his suit. He has a mean streak and a certain decadence about him
that is neither bad nor good.

He is a business
magnate. The business of money is his speciality. His firms specialise in real
estate, investments, oil, gold and technology. Anything that generates money,
he makes sure he’s involved in, be it crime also. There are people that like
him, but they are very few. Then there are those that seek revenge for his past
deeds. But he is a man that does not fear other men. He considers himself the
only King of New York, because only kings have enemies within the highest and
mightiest of society, but still walk without fear.

Chad Perry is a
smooth criminal in more ways than one. The word smooth is used in the most
rugged of terms when associated with him. His uncanny intellect transcends the
great pioneers of academia and works against those that are not in favour of
him and what he does.

The thirty-year-old
multibillionaire is the personification of a bad boy with bad money.
A playboy; the opulent parts of New York City are his
playground. Enjoying the finer things in life, from fine wine to fine dining
and even finer women, he has it all at such a fairly young age.

Having
everything money can buy, women became his addiction. Like a moth to a flame,
women are drawn to him irresistibly. However, his addiction to them is solely
for pleasure – never love or relationship. Wanting the luxurious things in
life, he worked hard to be able to afford them. From a young age he had dreamed
of achieving class and money. Now worth a few billion dollars, his peers much
older than him admire his great achievements.

They
have to!

Brought up in
hardship with an alcoholic, drugged-up mother, he had few opportunities, but he
did not allow that to deter him. Chad was not the average kid raised in a
dysfunctional family. He knew he did not want to remain in such an environment,
so he worked hard for his future. Resenting the poverty he lived in, a profound
desperation consumed him to escape and lead a life of affluence and luxury,
even if it included crime.

He was
determined, and determination paired with a brilliant mind brought him success
he was incapable of dreaming of while poor. Gaining a scholarship to Harvard on
account of his genius gave him a platform to make connections with most of New York’s elite.

The more he
heard the word “No”, the more motivated he became to win. Chad knew that not everyone who smiled, laughed or joked with him wished him the best. From
a young age he was up against the odds, with people always sniggering at him
behind his back because he had been brought up in poverty.

Now, at the age
of thirty, he is one of the wealthiest men in the whole of the United States of
America, according to the list compiled by
Forbes
magazine.

As he briskly
reminisces about his past and the chilling event that had just occurred, the
car swerves swiftly into another vehicle. The passenger in the other car isn’t
fazed by the incident and seems rather happy to see Mr Perry. The passenger
dressed in a black dinner suit is a government official.

“Mr Perry.
Please forgive the impudence of my driver. Where, if I may ask, are you off to
on such a glorious afternoon?” he asks, as his eyes glisten with a hatred that
Chad is accustomed to.

Calmly, Chad
Perry removes his dark shades and addresses the man in the highly armoured
vehicle.

“My driver and I
are on our way to the same wedding as you. Are there any more questions you
would like to ask? Time is of the essence, and you are wasting my time.”

Sensing the
harshness in Chad’s voice, the other passenger’s eyes disappear back into the
car as the tinted windows wind up, concealing the government official’s face.

Chad Perry’s driver
appears apprehensive at his boss’s angry verbal altercation, but stays silent.
Chad is livid
but he too refuses to say a word as they drive to the wedding, from which he
leaves with a female companion.

****

Tantalisingly he punishes her
neck. Her sweet surrender arouses his being as the spring breeze caresses his
skin.

Midnight passes
as he continues to sensuously lay his hands on her. He can tell that her body
is unable to control the feelings he is giving her. He whispers her name,
knowing that he’s sending her to the brink of arousal. She moans softly.

 “Why do you do
this to me?” she asks softly, with desire in her voice.

“Do what? Tell
me what it is that I do to you.” Chad’s voice is filled with a subtle huskiness
and a deep softness.

“You know what
you do, Chad. Your touch, the kiss of your lips and the feeling of you inside
my …”

“Shh … If you
know what I do to you then why do you ask? Do you not like the pleasure I give to
your body?” he says deeply.

Chad places a
single finger on her lips; she seems possessed by his words.

“I love what you
do. It’s just the way you do it. It always haunts my mind when you are gone. I
become obsessed by it all.”

“What obsesses
you about what I do?” he whispers.

“The way you
make me love you desperately. The silence when you are gone, and the many ways
I try to reach you, but you are never there. Then, like a thief in the night
you come and steal my heart all over again,” she whimpers.

“Then control
your desire for me,” he says with a deep, cold tone in his voice.

“But you know
that I can’t. I love you. Why can’t you love me back?” she asks, almost crying.

His icy-blue
eyes show little pity for the beautiful woman that has become a fiend for him
just like the others. He holds her close, as if he could actually love her.

He knows that he
causes her pain because she must know that men like Chad Perry are not made to
love, and he will never love her or any other woman as far as he’s concerned.
He softly places his hand on her butt and listens as she moans. He exhales
slowly.

Chad Perry knows
that he has the hands of a true lover whenever he lays them on her. He awakens her
body from a dormant volcano to a raging inferno and causes beautiful chaos in
her world whenever he feels the urge to.

Chad Perry knows
the many ways to a woman’s heart and her femininity.

He kisses her
ruby lips like he’s depraved. She winces in passionate agony as he roughly bites
the red lipstick from her mouth. Almost losing her balance from the passion of
his kiss, she regains her composure and kisses him like she too has been longing
for him. The kiss is passionate and erotic at the same time. Their tongues entwine
with one another in sweet surrender. Suffocated by the other’s kiss they have
to stop as they inhale ever so closely next to the other’s mouth. “I want you
inside me so bad,” she whispers sensuously. With lips almost touching, the
sexual tension mounts slowly, driving them wild as they stare into one
another’s lust-filled eyes. She seems intoxicated by his stare as his dangerous
blue eyes investigate her grey gaze.

“What do you
want me to do to you?” he asks, as they tease each other’s lips, slightly
touching but always pulling away. He draws her into him, controlling her lips
to crave more of his.

Her grey eyes
light up as she smiles with a subtle wickedness.

Usually he never
asks, but the alcohol from the wedding must be making him feel generous.

 She licks his
lips sensually and whispers something naughty in his ears and he finds himself aroused
by her voice. They are not even naked yet, but she gets his manhood excited
while they’re both still clothed.
