Albedo hid himself and watched from a far behind the pillar.

“I know you’re here,” said the Reaper. ”

“Then come and find me,” responded Vincent friskily.

Albedo continued on watching, steadily holding his breath to keep quite. He wanted to jump in there and ask who they were.

He heard Vincent say, “I must say, I’m honored King Victor sent one of the Black Reapers after me. You guys are pretty famous throughout Nacune.”

As the Reaper diligently searched for him, Vincent unexpectedly grabbed the Reaper around its neck. He began draining its energy; there was nothing that the Reaper could do. One touch from Vincent and his opponents’ body goes numb.

Albedo was in a dilemma on how to tackle this situatio
n, he was getting nervous again. He had never seen anything like this before in his life. He’d only heard of vampires outside of the walls. He had heard that there were two types of vampires, vampires and Purebloods. The Purebloods had special abilities that vampires cannot achieve.

He started thinking,
black cloak and a red mask; I think I heard stories about them before, from my father. The Black Reapers, so they must be the good guys. I feel like I have to help, what to do what to do

He came to the conclusion to help Reaper, but there was nothing he could do.

A strange feeling arose in his heart; he could feel the Reaper’s soul crying out to him. This was a gentle soul, a soul of a person who protects people and not hurt them.

“What is this feeling, it’s as if I can hear a heart beat calling out to me.” He felt that sense
again. He looked at the Reaper a second time; he could feel Vincent’s presence even better. Vincent was still invisible, but somehow Albedo could see him now, the way he saw him was

different from flesh and blood. Vincent was a spherical mass of energy floating in the air.

“They should have sent the two of you after me, instead of you by yourself,” said Vincent.

As the Reaper started losing consciousness, Albedo snuck behind Vincent and hit him as hard as he could. He felt different! His body feels a bit faster and stronger than before. Vincent was caught off guard by Albedo as he flew to the other side and hit the wall.

Albedo could feel him on the other side catching his breath.  “Are you all right?” He asked the Reaper.

The Reaper glared at him, thinking how brave he was. It was very dangerous what he had done.

Albedo put both hands in his pocket and looked calm, his confidence was now richer. “I can see him, and I can be your eyes if you let me.”

“Who are you?” asked the Reaper.
How can he see him? Does he have the

no
impossible
. “How are you able to see me?”

Vincent ran toward the Reaper, Albedo could feel it.

He shouted, “He’s coming now!”

The Reaper grabbed him and got out the way.

“Above you!” shouted Albedo.

The Reaper looked up waiting for Albedo’s command.

“Hit him now!” said Albedo.

The Reaper struck Vincent with a powerful blow; a blow so strong that Albedo began to understand the strength of their kind. He could actually hear bones being cracked. Their physical ability surpassed humans. The Reaper was strong and at that moment Albedo wished he were this strong.

Vincent got up and was preparing to strike.

“Look out, he’s getting up!” shouted Albedo.

The Reaper was fast and strong; Albedo became its eyes and ears, telling it when to strike and where to move.

“Do you know who I am? You will die for what you did!” said Vincent angrily.

“Jump to your left!” shouted Albedo.

The Reaper jumped and turned to its left, while in the air it struck a powerful kick, the blow was enough to stop Vincent. The Reaper was now able to see him; his ability had worn off.

“You can see me now,” said Vincent with blood dripping from his mouth.

The Reaper answered, “You need blood to sustain your invisibility. When I cut you with my chain, it was coated with poison that will attack your physical energy. I didn’t need his help for this final blow. ”

Vincent felt weak now; his vision was weak and blurry, barely able to hear.

The Reaper walked toward Albedo.

Albedo said nervously, “Just so you know, I know how to fight.” His hands were up ready for the Reaper, in case it tries something unpleasant.

The Reaper stopped in front of him, took the hood of its head, and then the mask came off.
Albedo looked at her; and she, the Reaper, smiled at him and said.

“Sorry for all the trouble.”

Lost by her beauty Albedo said, “It is ok,” in a very timid voice since his heart jumped straight into his throat when he looked into her eyes.

It was red; her beautiful long black hair reached her back. This was truly the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life.  Her smile was the sun after the night that lights up everything in sight.

Albedo stepped back away from her with his head staring at the ground; he couldn't even look at her face for fear of his face turning red. His voice trembled as he tried to speak, the words did not want to come out. She was as beautiful as his mother, maybe even more. His heart started to race as he got more nervous.

“Thank you for the help,” she broke the silence. “Who are you exactly and how were able to see him?”

“Well that’s a question that I’d also like to ask,” replied Albedo.

She stared at him curiously.
Albedo got nervous and his cheeks started blushing. She noticed he was not afraid of her, most humans were afraid of her kind.

“Well you’re not a human, you’re one of us, a vampire,” said the Reaper.

Albedo always had the feeling he was different, the answer was finally revealed to him. All his life he was led to believe he was a human, but he’d always had felt different. “A vampire… I guess it all make sense,” he said with a puzzled mind.

She put a hand on his shoulder gently, “You’re not just a vampire, you’re a Pureblood.” said the Reaper.
And
apparently you possess the power of the Elder
.
For such a young age this is really rare.

Albedo had heard of the Purebloods before, but never imagines he would meet one, or be one; they were the Pure
bloods of vampires. During the blood-war, it was them who bit the humans and turned them into a vampire. They needed soldiers for their armies. The Purebloods are the higher up, their faster and stronger than vampires.

Albedo wanted to ask more questions but did not know what to call her, she introduced herself. Her name was Sonia. Albedo thought it was a radiant name for a beautiful woman. She was a bit taller than he was.

“That power that you have is a powerful one; you can sense the presence of others is that right?” asked Sonia.

He was lost in her beauty to answer her question. “Yes I can, but it’s on and off.
It comes on when it pleases.”

She looked at him,
“Only when a powerful Pureblood passes a thousand years can he gain this power.” She explained to him that the power he possesses is call the power of the “Elder”.

Albedo thought nothing of it; to him it’s just ability. “So it’s true then, I’m a … vampire.”

She smiled at him. “Is that so bad?”

He blushed even harder. Albedo with a paused tone said, “No-- its not.” He wonders if there were more beautiful vampires like her.

“But what are you doing here? This is the human’s territory,” asked Sonia.

“I was born here,”
 Albedo responded.

”I see,” she said calmly. “So I’m guessing your parents are Purebloods too?”

He didn’t know what to say, his mind was scribbling for an answer to give her. “No, they’re humans and I was born like this,” said Albedo apprehensively.
Or at least I think they’re humans
.

Sonia was puzzled
. He was born here, this is highly unusual. Could he be? No it can’t be, as far as I know the heroes of Atnius don’t have any heir.
“Well Albedo, like you I’m also a Pureblood. I work for King Victor as one of the Black Reapers.”

Albedo was mesmerized by her, not only was her beauty astonishing, her fighting skills were amazing. “I heard stories of how strong and amazing you guys
are from my father, I’m pleased to meet you.”

From your father huh
, Thought Sonia.

Albedo didn’t really know anything about the outside world or the vampires that lived there; he’d only heard stories of how wicked they were.  Not once did he ever believe those stories, he was always ready to defend them. It is one of the reasons that he was so hated by the others. He always figured there had to be good vampires, why would the king of Atnius use his army to protect the humans. The people always spoke highly of him.

“As you know Albedo, now that I know you’re a Pureblood, I can’t allow you to stay here amongst the humans.”

“I know,” responded Albedo hastily. His face suddenly had a look of seriousness as he asked, “Is there something I can do to stay here?”  Leaving Inferno was unbearable, it was his home.

Sonia’s curiosity grew larger; she’d never met anyone like him before. “Well you did help me catch Vincent and defeated him. So I suppose there’s no harm in letting you stay here until I talk to the King.” I
must get to the bottom of this, who is he
?

Albedo smiled in content, to be given the chance to stay. “So, what’s going to happen to Vincent?” he asked.

Vincent had fallen unconsciously to her poison.

Sonia responded, “He will be sent to the Furness.”

The word made Albedo shiver; the Furness was an island, a prison where notorious vampires and Purebloods who broke the laws are sent to. As they continued on talking, Sonia quickly put her cloak over her head and the mask on her face, she told Albedo to hide quickly. The sound of footsteps was getting louder as someone approached them.

“What’s with all the noises in here? One of my guards spotted you running in here? And if I’m not mistaken he said there was a boy chasing after you,” said Lou. He looked in front of him, Vincent was lying there unconsciously, and after that it was easy to puzzle what happened. Lou didn’t really care who was that boy chasing after the Reaper, he figured its some human who never seen a vampire before. Beside it would be too much work to go look into it, he was just glad Vincent was out of his territory.

“Thank you for your cooperation, I’m finish here,” said the Reaper with rushed speech.

“So I’m guessing you’ll be taking him to the Furness?” said Lou with a cigar in his mouth.

The Reaper walked toward Vincent, she wrapped his arms with a metal rope. As powerful as Vincent was she knew if he woke up, he could break free with his strength. “Leave now, I’ll take it from here,” said the Reaper repeated with a harsher tone now.

Lou did not argue, he ordered his men to go back to their post. He looked back with malice and a stern voice, “Just Remember Reaper, I hope this incident doesn’t happen again. The last thing I want is your kind running around here.”

His face was unfriendly as Albedo looked into his eyes from a distance. He had never liked Lou, his smiles were deceptive. As he walked away, the cigar burnt swiftly and the ashes dropped in a trail as sinister as his tone.  Albedo approached Sonia as Lou and his men left the scene.

He must have been working over night, in a way it was good he was the one who found us
, thought Sonia. The last thing Inferno needed was a crisis.

Everything Albedo heard about the vampires and Purebloods had been lies; she was kind, gentle, and wanted nothing but to protect people who can’t defend themselves.

After a brief conversation with Albedo, she left leaving a lingering presence of serenity as she drifted away with Vincent, and told Albedo they would meet again.

Chapter 4

The new Girl

A
s
Albedo walked back to his house, his view of the world started to change dramatically. He began to think about Sonia, how beautiful she was in his eyes. He arrived home to find his mother was waiting to talk to him; she had an angry look on her face.

“You been gone all morning, where have you been?” she asked.

Albedo glared at his mother’s angry face, it only made him think about Sonia.

“Sorry mother but I had other business to take care off. You worry too much sometimes you know,” snipped Albedo. His mood had shifted from this morning, he was now preoccupied with the thought of Sonia.

She wondered what change his mood so suddenly. He was back to his old self.

“I’m not human am I?” he asked seriously.

The words hit Cecelia like a needle piercing the skin. She approached him and put her arm around his shoulders, “We’ve been over this son.”
So, his abilities are finally surfacing
. “Albedo you’re not different. You are my son and I never want to hear you say that again, is that clear?”
I wish you can stay as human as you can be my son, but we all know that will never happen.
