Logan didn’t budge from the sofa.
“I don’t get it. Cat said—”

She threw up a hand. “I don’t want
to hear anything about Cat. I don’t care whether you left her or she left you.
We’re divorced, and I love Drew. You and I can’t start over.”

The key turned in the lock, and her
heart turned over with it. Drew. What would he do? What would Logan say? Oh
God, what if they started fighting or something?

Chapter Seven

“Hey, honey.” Drew set his
briefcase by the door. He smiled at her. Then he saw Logan, who was now standing
in the middle of their living room.

God. She’d just wanted a special
dinner followed by some good loving. Instead Drew was eyeing Logan like they
were rams ready to lock horns and do some serious damage. She wanted to smack
her
ex
-husband for ruining everything.

Just as quickly, the look vanished.
“Love the sundress, honey,” Drew said.

She hadn’t even thought about what
she was wearing, a strapless sundress with a stretchy top that hugged her
breasts. Her feet were as bare as her shoulders. “Thank you.” The words felt so
inane.

Drew hung his suit jacket in the
closet. The day had been hot, and obviously he hadn’t worn it home. “So Logan,
to what do we owe this pleasure?”

We
. They were a couple; this
was their home. Logan was the interloper.

“I understand congratulations are
in order.” Logan stuck out his hand as Drew strode into the room.

They shook. Alexis felt like she
was having an out-of-body experience.

“Thanks. Alexis and I are very
happy.”

“I can see that,” Logan said. They
were so civilized. As if Logan hadn’t just asked her to take him back. Maybe
she’d misunderstood.

“Well, I’ll be on my way.” He said
it as easily as the night he’d told her he loved Cat and was leaving to be with
her. He was Logan. Nothing fazed him.

“Thanks for stopping by,” Drew
said. He let Logan get to the door before he added, “Cat called me today.”

And Logan smiled. “What did she
say?”

“That you’d had a little
misunderstanding over the weedend. She wanted me to talk to you.”

Logan laughed outright. “She’s
bold, you know. Gotta give her that.” Then his eyes turned as hard as stone.
“Did you tell her to fuck off?”

“I told her that you were her
problem, not mine.”

“Did she tell you what she did?”

Drew shook his head. “I don’t want
to know.”

Logan pressed his lips together, then
nodded slowly. “We were wrong. I apologize to both of you for what we did.”

Drew put his arm around Alexis’s
shoulder. “The saying goes that things happen for the best. And this one did.”

Logan nodded again, backed toward
the door. “I know you both think I’m full of shit. And I probably am. But I do
mean it when I say congratulations. I have a feeling you won’t fuck things up
the way we did.”

Then he was gone.

Alexis stood frozen beneath Drew’s
arm. “I didn’t invite him over or anything. In fact, I just asked him to
leave.”
And why was Cat calling you?

Chapter Eight

Logan sat in his car as the shadows
grew long and night approached.

They were married. Alexis was
making dinner for Drew. They’d made a home.

He missed the home Alexis had made
for him. It had never been like that with Cat.

He thought of last summer and the
hot sex the four of them had. And he could admit the full truth. While Cat was
a firecracker in bed, there really wasn’t much more to her than that. Constant
fireworks could actually wear a man down. He should have stuck with the
foursome. They could have gone on forever that way, and life would have been
good. An old adage came to mind: you can have your cake and eat it, too. Or
maybe it was that you
couldn’t
. That was certainly true. He’d lost it
all because he’d been thinking with his dick.

He started the engine and pulled
away from the curb. The problem was he didn’t know where he wanted to go. Only
where he
didn’t
want to go, which was back to Cat.

Somehow he’d have to figure out how
to start over alone.

* * * * *

Really, Cat didn’t understand what
the big deal was. Logan had loved her for her filthy mind and penchant for
out-of-this-world sexual adventures.

Bastard. He’d been back sometime
during the day while she was at work and taken the rest of his clothes. It was
the oddest feeling to see one half of the closet empty. Odd, and bad. She’d
gotten a little afraid then.

To top it off, Drew had actually
hung up on her when she’d asked him if he’d talk to Logan.

She flipped on the TV because she
didn’t like the silence in the house. Cat didn’t like being alone. She was
still young, she had a killer bod, if she did say so herself, and really, all
she’d wanted to do was spice up their sex life again. The sex had been good,
but they hadn’t done anything completely wild in months. That was as much her
fault as Logan’s; she took her blame. She’d thought her little surprise would
add just the right amount of zest. And honestly, the sight of Logan’s cock in
Terry’s mouth had popped the cork on her bottle. She’d had visions of
eventually getting Logan to try it himself. Sucking cock. And well, maybe even
more. She certainly hadn’t expected him to go ballistic like that.

She channel surfed. There was
nothing on. Nothing exciting. She needed excitement. The older she got, the
more she craved it.

God, she needed Logan. He was
perfect. Until that little episode with Terry, he’d been willing to try
anything. Okay, she needed a plan. Going forward, all she had to do was ask him
his limits and stick to those. That should work. And maybe she needed to beg a
little, too. She could do that. If it was over the phone and he couldn’t see
her.

Picking up her cell, she
speed-dialed him.

“Hello.” There was a rush of noise
in the background. He was on his Bluetooth, probably driving.

“Hi, honey. I was just checking on
you. And I wondered if Drew had talked to you.”

There was a long pause. Then all he
said was “Yes.”

Okay. Now what? She was going to
have to drag every word out of him. “And what did he say?”

“Probably exactly what you told him
to say. That you wanted him to talk to me, and that you and I had a little
misunderstanding
.”

This was frustrating. He wasn’t
bothering to answer the real question. “But you didn't call me after you talked
to him.”

“That's because I have nothing to
talk about, and it wouldn’t do any good anyway.”

On the Bluetooth, it was like he
was a million miles away. All right, she really would have to do a little
begging. “Look, I'm so sorry. I didn't think about what I was doing. I should've
talked to you first. But I just thought it would be incredibly fun, and you’ve
always enjoyed everything else we've done. I didn't think this would be so
different.”

“That's the whole point. You didn't
think
, and you don’t even know me well enough to figure out that's not
something I would've agreed to.”

“I won't do it again, I promise.
Not even anything like it. In fact, I won't do any surprises at all. I'll
always ask. And you can say no to whatever you want.” She expected an answer,
but he was silent. Okay, she needed to do a little more groveling. “I'll be a
good girl. I love you. I can't go on without you.” There, that should work. She
didn't tell him she loved him often enough, that was the problem. She’d taken
him too much for granted.

He made a noise, and it took her a
moment to realize he was laughing. “That is so much bullshit, Cat. You don't
love me.”

She hunched over, holding the cell
phone tight to her ear. “I left Drew for you. I divorced him. Why would I do
that if I didn't love you?”

“Because you were bored. Because
you wanted something new and different. And because you got caught fucking
behind his back.”

“That's not true.” At least not all
of it. Okay, maybe it was all
part
of the truth, but he made her sound
so shallow. It hadn't been like that, not completely. She just wanted to have
fun, and she really did have feelings for him.

“By the way, they're married.”

For a moment she didn't get what he
was talking about. “Married?” And then she actually
heard
it. “Drew and
Alexis?”

“Exactly. Your ex-husband and my
ex-wife. They're married. And you didn't even bother to tell me they were
living together.”

It had been only natural to keep
tabs on them. Not that Logan had ever asked if she knew what they were up to.
She would have told him if he had. Yet she’d always liked knowing things he
didn’t, as if somehow it gave her the upper hand. Okay, she had to think fast,
how to explain it away. “I didn't think it would matter to you. And just in
case it did, I didn't want to hurt your feelings or anything.”

He gave a bark of laughter; this
time she recognized it. “You were just afraid it might make me start to think
about what a mistake I made by leaving Alexis for you.”

His words felt like a dirty punch
to the kidneys. He couldn't possibly think he’d made a mistake. Could he?
Alexis was a prude. She was more Drew’s style. Her ex-husband had never been
able to keep up with her. He and Alexis deserved each other. It didn't bother
her. But marriage? Logan had never talked about marrying
her
. Okay, she
needed to stop thinking about it. She needed to get Logan back to the original
issue. “You just don't understand. About Terry and what happened—”

He cut her off. “There is one thing
that I do understand completely, Cat. Something that has taken me a few months to
figure out.”

She stepped right into the silent
hole he left for her. “What?”

“I don't love you,” he said flatly.
“I never did. You're just a good fuck.” Then he was gone, his Bluetooth silent.

And the silence rang through the
house. She was just a good fuck? That's all she’d been to him? What an asshole.

For the first time in her life, she
wondered if that’s all she was to most men, a killer bod and a good fuck. Drew
had left. He’d married Alexis. Now Logan was gone. Cat, who rarely cried, felt
a tear trickle down her cheek. He was gone, even if he was an asshole, and she
was truly alone now. She wouldn’t even have Drew’s shoulder to cry on.

Chapter Nine

Drew gathered Alexis close. He
wanted to kiss away the fear shadowing her eyes. “You don’t have to explain why
Logan was here. They’re just two people from our past. That’s all. And I’m only
thinking about the future. With you.” He didn’t care that Logan and Cat had
split.

“Why’d she call you?” There was a
forced nonchalance in her voice. She
did
care that he’d talked to Cat.
He’d known she didn’t like Cat’s little calls.

“Because she thinks she has all men
wrapped around her little finger.” If anything, the shadows deepened in
Alexis’s eyes. “But now she knows that I don’t give a damn what she does. And
Logan doesn’t give a damn either. She won’t be calling again.”

She was silent a long moment, her
eyes flitting over his features, searching for something. Then, as if coming to
a decision, she cupped his cheeks and kissed him hard. “Let’s not talk about them
anymore. That’s over.”

“Completely.” He rubbed his nose
against hers. “Wife,” he whispered. Christ, he couldn’t get over the amazing
sound of it. “You want to go house-hunting this weekend?”

A smile brightened her features,
and she kissed him back, light, sweet. “How’d you know I was thinking the same
thing while I was starting dinner?”

“Great minds think alike.” He put
his hands on her butt and rubbed against her. “And guess what I’m thinking
right now.”

“That you want me to put the shrimp
in the fridge for a little while?”

“See, we can read each other’s
mind.”

She was so damn perfect. Cat and
Logan were part of the past. Alexis was his future, and he was hers.

She put the shrimp away, and he
lifted her onto the counter.

“Aren't we going into the bedroom?”
she asked.

“No, I want you right here.” He
shoved her sexy little sundress up her thighs, and stepped between her legs,
pushing them apart. “Pink panties.” He shot her a wicked grin. “I love them.”
Then he pushed them aside and stroked her.

Alexis sucked in a breath and
leaned back on her hands. “You're such a dirty man.” She fluttered her
eyelashes at him. “And I love that.” She wrapped her legs around his waist and
pulled him in. “Now make me come.”

He entered her with two fingers.
She was already wet and ready for him. Kitchen sex was so fucking hot. And his
beautiful wife was the ultimate firecracker.
