Chapter 30

W
hitney stepped out of the town car with a smile on her lips. She hummed to herself as she glided to the private jet and bounced up the stairs. There was a wide smile on her face until she entered the plane to find her husband sitting with a glass of amber liquid.

Whitney snarled. “What are you doing here?”

Peter gave her a smug smile. “Well mon cher, I thought I would deliver these little ones myself. It isn’t right to expect Rosa here to take care of all three babies on her own,” Peter said nonchalantly taking another sip of his drink.

“I thought we agreed you would stay here for a bit. It isn’t wise for us to be seen together for a while. They haven’t figured out we are working together,” Whitney snapped with her arms flailing around.

Peter had seen this coming. At first getting back at Paige and Bobby had its appeal. Somewhere along the line, Peter realized how unhinged Whitney truly is. He was sure if he hadn’t gone along with her crazy plan someone was going to get hurt. It was only now though that he realized she was very likely going to hang him out to dry on this one.

He couldn’t understand how he allowed himself to get here. He was a successful businessman not too long ago. A few bad decisions had him on his toes now, but not enough damage to send him into this tailspin.

Whitney had just caught him at a bad time and as she kept the drinks coming and talked of revenge for the humiliation for Bobby and Paige abandoning them both he bought into it, hook line and sinker. It all had sounded very logical to his drunken, hazed mind. Next thing he knew he was married to the nut standing before him.

Granted she is a decent looking nut, so it wasn’t a big deal at first. He was even still on board in planning something to get back at Paige, but then she revealed her big plan. There was no way he was letting this unstable woman run off with
three babies. He hadn’t even meant for things to get this far. His men weren’t supposed to follow through with this. Somehow Whitney had bypassed his orders to the idiots he assigned to watch her and make her think he was helping her all along.

Peter wasn’t a complete fool he had been running his mouth about getting back at Bobby Mairettie for a few months now knowing it would get back to him. He had hoped that things would fit together for Bobby to guard his family against his wife and the plans she was dragging him into. He sat sending a text and sipping his drink. It was time to end this.

Little did Peter know Whitney was not ready to let him ruin her plans. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her insurance. Peter’s eyes grew wide. He looked over to the three babies he had gotten into this mess and then back at a gun-wielding Whitney.

Rosa was yelling and pleading frantically in Spanish as she wrung her hands. The babies must have felt the tension because the once happy and silent boys were now hollering the place down. Whitney’s face twisted in rage.

“I’m going to need you to get off this plane,” Whitney snarled as she gestured with the gun for Peter to disembark.

“Okay,” Peter stood with his hands up placing himself between Whitney and the babies. “I’ll go, but I think you should let me take the children with me. When I get home, we’ll come up with another way to get your revenge.”

“What don’t you get,” Whitney tapped the gun to her temple before aiming once again at Peter. “I have what I need. You are no longer useful so just get off the fucking plane.”

Peter felt sick. He should have gotten her help long before now. When he had reached out to her father, he said he wanted nothing to do with his daughter. Peter thought that was rich coming from such a slime ball. Spittle was flying from Whitney’s mouth as she ranted about not getting caught and Peter needing to get his ass off the plane.

“Daddy will help me. I’ll pass them off as ours. Yes, that’s what I’ll do. I don’t need your money. You’re an idiot. Now get off the damn plane before I put a bullet in you,” Whitney yelled over the cries of the babies.

Peter could see the crazy in her eyes. This was about to get ugly. Just as Peter made up his mind to lunge at Whitney, she
released a gasp before slumping over. Peter’s eyes widened not quite understanding what just happened until he looked up into the barrel of two guns in the hands of two very angry looking men and the face of another angry man storming toward him. Before he could react or lift a hand in defense, Bobby Mairettie’s fist was flying into his face. Peter dropped to the floor and as if nothing happened Bobby stepped over him to get to the crying boys. Within minutes, Bobby had checked over each boy to ensure they were not hurt and swiftly pulled James and Peyton into his arms. The boys quieted down as they were cradled in their father’s arms. Nate secured Peter and spoke in Spanish to Rosa to get her to calm down. Once she was calm Nate moved to lift his nephew in his arms. Daniel was not as easy to soothe.

“We’re going to get you to mommy and your new little sister little buddy no worries,” Nate crooned against his nephew’s temple. “Let’s go meet the new lady of the family. My guys will clean this mess up.”

Everyone cheered and sighed in relief as Bobby led the way into the waiting room carrying James. Nate was behind him with Daniel and Jasper was bringing up the rear with Peyton held snug in his arms. Paige rushed forward, and Bobby wrapped her in a hug and kissed the top of her head as she checked over the boys.

“Should we have a doctor look at them,” Paige suggested.

“It wouldn’t hurt, but I think they are all fine, maybe a little hungry but fine otherwise,” Bobby reassured her.

“Where is that bitch,” Paige asked Nate directly.

“Sleeping off an ass full of tranquilizer,” Nate snorted.

“I want to get my hands on the crazy heifer,” Pam growled.

“Yeah, well that is exactly why we are turning her over before my sister heals up and you two ladies get any ideas,” Nate was talking to Paige but looking at Pam.

“Whatever Nate, your sister wanted to know the moment you arrived. I think you should go let her know her son is safe,” Pam sassed.

“When I get back we need to finish our talk,” Nate said.

“Sure we will,” Pam said too sweetly.

Nate stood staring at her for a while before sighing and heading off to find his sister.

Pam turned to Paige, “Hannah is gorgeous. I’m happy you have your family back. I just need to get out of here,” Pam said.

“I understand,” Paige nodded.

Epilogue

Two months later….

an everyone raise their glasses,” Marcus crooned as he beamed down at his little girl in his right arm.

“So much has happened in the last year but we are so grateful for our children and our family. This little one here and her brother gave us quite the scare, but like their mother they are fighters.

“I am so proud to have two healthy children and a beautiful wife, all who I love very much. I want to toast to making partner at the firm and finally getting past all the crazy in our lives,” Marcus beamed.

“Wait, I think Bobby and Paige would like to share some news as well,” Rita said with a beaming smile.

Paige laughed, she was simply glowing. “You really miss nothing do you,” Paige said to Rita.

“Well we wanted tonight to be about Marcus,” Bobby said. “But I guess it wouldn’t hurt to let the family know that Paige will be granting me another beautiful baby.”

Everyone cheered and congratulations broke out. Everyone had suspected Paige was pregnant again. Paige and Bobby had just wanted to wait a little while longer to tell everyone.

At the top of the table, Minnie leaned into her husband. “My boys are finally all where they belong and with who they belong. Now if only we could help our

along,” Minnie said with a mischievous smile.

“Plan’s already in motion my love,” James said with a smug grin and winked at his longtime friend Thomas Briggs.

The family all gathered in the family room after dinner. Marcus stood with his little girl still wrapped in his arms. He watched her try to focus her green-gray eyes on him. She was absolutely gorgeous, the perfect mix of both her mother and father.

She was already spoiled. Only a month home from the hospital and Marcus was determined to cradle her in his arms until she was too big for him to do so. He and Rita were in the hospital day and night the entire month she had to spend there.

Marcus kissed her head and inhaled her sweet baby scent. Nate walked up beside him with a big smile. “It’s amazing isn’t it,” Nate said nodding to Hannah in Marcus’s arms.

Hannah turned to her uncle and cooed a few bubbles, grimaced, wrinkled her little nose and yawned. Nate chuckled and bent to kiss his niece on the top of her head. She was just so precious.

“Yeah, don’t get me wrong I love my son just as much, but she just makes me want to hold onto her forever,” Marcus said as he looked down at his daughter and then up at his wife laughing across the room.

“I’m glad you two were able to work things out,” Nate said nodding to his sister.

“Yeah me too, I couldn’t imagine my life any other way,” Marcus smiled as Rita’s eyes connected with his and he sent her a wink. “And when the kids get older we’ll have quite a story to tell.”

Nate snorted. “Well, that makes two of us.”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

To my readers,

You have no idea how much your support has meant to me. The emails and the wonderful reviews have made me feel so warm inside, especially at times when I wasn’t so sure about this. These characters make their presence known in my imagination, and I have to let them out onto paper. I am happy to know that you can enjoy the fun that is happening in my head. I am so excited to start working on Nate’s story as he has been calling for my attention as I have wrapped this book up. Be patient with me as I give birth to the rest of the Briggs and Mairettie family drama. It’s going to get steamy and complicated at times, but I know it will be worth the journey. Thank you all for giving me your time.

To my minions, (LOL) you guys are the front line for these books. I thank you all for your attention to my works and your feedback. You are always there when I get frustrated, and you help me see straight. Thanks is not even a good enough start for what you mean to me or how much I appreciate you.
