Things that are repeated can include terms or phrases, characters, incidents and circumstances, or patterns of behavior. To get you started, we suggest you look for acts of faith. As you read through the book, you should find considerable repetition. Then see how many other important repetitions you can find.

ead the book of Ruth looking for things that are alike or unlike. The book is not a source of many outright metaphors and similes. But consider the characters themselves and what they represent. To whom are they compared? How do they compare with each other? Also review how irony can be used to point out obvious contrasts in Scripture, and look for examples from the story of Ruth.

You’ll probably find more examples from the cause and effect category than the other two. But read carefully, looking for how certain people or events are brought into relation to one another. List all the examples you find.
