Tom revved his bike and grinned when it purred; there were no funny noises coming from it, and he nodded happily.

“How about that beer then?”

“Sorry, John. I’m avoiding the bar, how about I toss another ten on top instead?”

“You’re not avoiding the bar but the girl, am I right?”

Tom sighed as he climbed off the bike and fished his wallet out of his pocket, before nodding his head slightly. He knew the bar wasn’t open today, since Caroline had told him that she was at the beer tent at the festival. He just hoped that she had made up her mind about coming with him.

“I asked her to come with me for a few weeks.”

“On the road? She’d love that, she’s always talking about how she wants to travel the country.” John took the cash and sat on the stool behind the cashier, a smile on his pudgy face.

“She said she couldn’t. That the bar and this town were her life.”

“She’s always been a worrier. Things got worse for her since her grandma died, and she hasn’t had a break since then.”

“Let’s hope that she says yes then. Thank you for all your help, John.” Tom tipped his head again and rode his bike to the B&B, paying the lady at the front before grabbing his bags and strapping them to his bike as he waited outside the bar for Caroline to return home.

He ended up sitting on the bike for three hours until he saw her Jeep speeding down the road and her jumping out, a bag in her left hand. That might have been a good sign — at least Tom hoped so anyway.

“Tom.”

“Hey, Caroline.”

“One month.”

“Is that how long you’ll go with me for? I promise you won’t regret it.” Tom held out his hand and felt a sigh of relief leave his body when she placed her hand in his and stepped closer to him before kissing him on the nose.

“Tina, a girl from another bar, said she’d look after the mine for a month as long as I paid her.”

“That’s awesome. Are you sure you want to do this?”

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.” Caroline giggled and kissed him, squealing in surprise when Tom pulled her onto the motorcycle and pushed a helmet on her head with a smirk.

“Where do you want to go, Miss?”

“Take me to Florida!” Caroline wrapped her arms around Tom’s stomach as he secured her bag to the bike and revved the engine, hearing her giggle again. Soon enough they were on the road and Tom had finally found the feeling he was searching for. No longer was he a lone wolf, but he finally had someone who wanted the same adventures as he did. He felt fulfilled.
