In addition, my Texan friend Kate spent much time trying to explain to this native Californian the proper use of “y’all.” The fact that Luke never says it is proof that I was a terrible student, but she tried her best. In an alternate version of this novel, Luke says “y’all” often and in the proper context.

Thanks as well to Paul Taylor, my tech wizard. He somehow still likes me despite all the panicked emails I’ve sent his way. I shudder to think what my website would look like without his help.
