“I love you too.” She pulled her legs back across his lap and turned in his arms to kiss him as he slid from her body. “Eeep.”

He hoisted her up in the air without any warning. “We’re going inside now. I have plans that don’t involve bug bites on my balls.”

“I’d scratch them for you.”

Brandon laughed as he twisted the doorknob. “Tom used his spare key. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Eh, you stole my house. I guess breaking into it is a minor offense.” She smiled at him, and his eyes lit her up inside in a way she never thought possible. “Stay.” She told him.

There must have been something in her voice that told him she meant something important this time.

He held her against him tighter as he twisted through the slim doorway and across the threshold. “For tonight or forever?”

She snuggled up against his chest. “For me. Stay for me.”

He kissed the top of her curls. “I’m staying for me too.”

He kicked the door shut, and did just that.

Epilogue

Felicity placed the keys in Angela’s hands. The woman in front of her had tears in her eyes as Candice ran circles around them both.

Angela grabbed Felicity’s hand and squeezed. “Thank you for my home. How can I ever repay you?”

“We have a house. We have a house. We have a house. Can I see my room? We have a hoouuuuse!” Candice sped around faster and faster until she saw Tom opening the door for her.

The child’s feet dug a divot in the grass as she booked it to the place that was all hers and her mom’s.

Felicity blinked back her own tears and pulled Angela in for a hug. When she was reasonably certain she could speak without blubbering she pulled back. “We’re going to be neighbors. Let’s get together for dinner and call it even.”

Angela laughed. “I would have to be your live in chef, but we will have my famous bacon kabobs tonight to celebrate. You are welcome to eat with us. Tom’s staying too.” Looking over Felicity’s shoulder she grinned. “And of course, your invitation extends to Brandon.”

Felicity turned to see where Angela’s eyes were drawn, and she immediately shared the woman’s smile. Brandon still wore his suits on occasion, but even when he went to work with the zoning commission, he didn’t button his shirts up all the way anymore.

That could also be due to the fact that he was living with Felicity and she had a hard time not ripping his clothes off on a daily basis.

He was arguing with someone on the phone from the furrow of his brow. But when he noticed her staring, his lips immediately turned up and he waved her over.

“I’m sure Brandon would love dinner. We’ve got some paperwork to finish up for our client request list, and we’ll come outside and meet up with you then.”

“Paperwork? Is that what you crazy kids are calling it these days?” Angela winked before she ran to her house.

Felicity watched the mother and daughter dance in the doorway. She had spent a bit more than she planned on this house, but she’d wanted to make it perfect. The reclaimed wood arched doorway framed the mother and daughter as they spun round and round.

A hand on her shoulder let her know Brandon had finished his phone call. He always gave her collarbone a little pinch before he kissed the side of her head.

“It’s a bit of a Kodak moment, isn’t it?” he said.

Felicity didn’t need a camera. She’d never forget this. “I’m so glad we got them the door. It looks like a fairy tale cottage in an enchanted forest.”

“So the door was worth the five thousand dollars?”

She laughed. “I’m not saying we’re doing a princess theme in every home, but I think this was perfect for their happily ever after.”

“How long do you think they’ll stay?”

Felicity watched Tom fix his shirt and dust off his pants before he took a deep breath and knocked on the door frame.

A day hadn’t passed where Tom wasn’t working into the night on the home.

“I don’t know how long they’ll stay, but I’m so happy they’re here.”

Remembering when she’d first seen them at the bus stop, she’d realized she had to make this house special, because none of this would have happened if she’d never seen Angela hand her daughter a sucker.

She smiled up at Brandon. She smiled up at a man who knew who she was and was in love with her without the money or with it. She was so unbelievably lucky.

“You know Deborah wants to do an update story on you.”

“Is that what that call was about?”

He kissed her hand and started pulling her toward what was now
their
home. “I fended her off for you.”

“How did you manage that?”

Deborah had been relentless lately. Felicity’s threat to not work on Deborah’s tiny house design wasn’t even working anymore.

Brandon pulled her up into the house and was sliding out the table top. He didn’t reply as he selected a bottle of red and poured two glasses.

“I have my ways.”

Felicity rolled her eyes. “Right. Seriously, share your secrets. The woman is driving me batty.”

Reaching into his pocket, Brandon placed a velvet box in between the two glasses.

“I told her I was going to ask you to marry me tonight.”

Felicity reached for the wine and downed half the glass. Were they ready for that? It had only been four months since they’d met, and surely that wasn’t enough time to say yes. Was it?

She put the wine back down before she dropped it, and Brandon opened the box as he got down on one knee.

“Felicity, I don’t care where we go. I don’t care if we live in two hundred square feet or twenty thousand. You’re the key to my happiness, and everywhere with you feels more like home than I’ve ever experienced. Please let me be a home to you. Will you marry me?”

A delicate gold band was decorated with Greek key designs leading up to a princess cut diamond that shone in the gentle lights of her home. But it didn’t matter. As she looked down at the honest smile and slightly wrinkled button-up shirt straining over his arms as he held the ring up to her, she realized she would have said yes without a ring at all.

She got down on the floor with him and hugged him. It was meant to be sweet and gentle and loving. Instead she threw him off balance and they both rolled backward with the momentum.

Brandon’s head smacked the leg of the table.

“Oh no. Are you okay? Please tell me I didn’t knock you out.”

Brandon just laughed. “You’ve been knocking me off balance since I first met you. Just tell me you’ll marry me and we can go to bed so you can kiss it and make it better.”

Felicity put the glistening ring on her finger and settled her body over his. “Yes. I’ll marry you.”

Her lips touched his and it took only seconds for him to give her the sweetness she wanted and the searing heat she couldn’t help but crave. His arms wrapped around her and he held her tight. She didn’t know if it was his tight grip or the pleasure of his tongue slipping between her lips that took her breath away, but she knew, as they ran laughing to the bedroom, that she was home.

Coral-600 is the first and only one of her kind. An artificial intelligence prototype with realistic skin over her metal frame, she was deemed too expensive for mass production and gifted to the royal family.

She cannot legally have a relationship with a human, and it never entered her electronic brain to want more—to break the law. Until she meets Quinn, and her DNA-enhanced skin tingles with a completely new sensation. Desire.

His body damaged beyond repair in the war, Quinn survived—barely—by agreeing to have much of it rebuilt. His royal relatives have taken him in, but it’s tough adjusting to a body that doesn’t come with instructions.

As Coral helps Quinn cope with his new body, the connection between them reaches the melt-down point. But unless she can convince the authorities that humanity runs deeper than flesh and bone, she’ll have her CPU wiped clean—permanently.

Warning: This book contains artificial and natural flavors, lubricant (lots and lots of lubricant), and fun with oh-so-hard drives.
