I warned that fool before pops.”

I know that Ricardo and I understand why you did what you did, but that doesn’t make it any easier,” he explained. “You should question Axel; see what he has to say.”

A’ight.”

On my way
home I tried calling Axel’s phone but it kept going to voicemail. I left him a message that I needed to talk to him and then I called Delco and told him to get the word out that I was looking for that nigga. I was a hundred percent sure that Axel and my brother tried to kill me, if not by their own hands, they got someone to do it for them. I knew pops didn’t want to believe that one son could try to kill the other, but in my world that Cain and Abel type shit was real popular. Those niggas should have made sure when they tried to kill me, they got the job done, because now I knew what was us, I would be prepared.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

ANGEL

I was a complete wreck. I was sitting on the side of the bathroom tub, my right foot jiggling nervously, as I waited on the results that would change my life forever. I
’d been feeling more tired than usually lately and my period was three weeks late. The first week I lived in complete denial, the second I wavered back and forth on whether I should take a pregnancy test or not, and by the third I was completely certain that in approximately eight months I was going to be someone’s mother.

I didn
’t need to look at the stick to know what it was going to say, but I did anyway and it confirmed what I already knew. I didn’t know how I was going to give the news to Tyga, but he must have expected this. He knew I wasn’t on birth control and we’d been having unprotected sex for more than a month.

I called my cousin Daisy.

“I’m pregnant,” I announced.

Damn girl, are you sure?”

Yeah I’m sure. I’m three weeks late, I was supposed to have my period the week after my birthday and I just took a test and it came back positive.”

Wow.” She sounded stunned. “Did you tell your man yet?”

I wanted to take the test before I told him. I’m gonna let him know tonight,” I explained.

Ya’ll weren’t using condoms?”

Nah, we were pulling out,” I fibbed. The truth was he only pulled out when he felt like it.

She laughed.
“That’s how I ended up with Kiki. What do you think your man will say?”

I don’t have a clue. We’ve only been dating for a couple a months, so it’s a bit quick to be having a baby together. But he is a grown man and he knew the risk we were taking going raw all the time.”

He definitely can’t be mad at you,” she assured me. “And I’m here for you like you were there for me when I was pregnant and Carter was giving me nothing but trouble.”

Thanks cuz,” I said. I changed the subject because all the ‘
what ifs’
going on inside my head were giving me a headache. “How is your love triangle?”

I think Carter is starting to suspect something. For the past week he’s been home a lot earlier and hasn’t spent the night out. Delco is starting to complain because I haven’t been able to see him all week because I’m scared Carter is watching me.”

But how could he have figured you’re cheating on him?”

I really have no clue, but the way he’s been acting I can tell something is definitely up.”

Who’re you hiding in the bathroom talking to on the phone?” Tyga asked as he walked through the half open bathroom door, surprising me.

Daisy let me call you back,” I told my cousin ending the call.

He was giving me a suspicious look, which I ignore
d and handed him the pregnancy test that was sitting on the sink. He looked at it and then at me.

You’re having my seed,” he stated with a huge grin on those thick sexy lips of his. He pulled me off the tub and into his arms, giving me a tight hug. I was a bit surprised by his response and then a bit suspicious. The way he was acting it seemed as though he knocked me up on purpose. I mean, I wasn’t expecting him to be mad, but I wasn’t expecting him to be elated either.

Why are you so happy,” I questioned lightly.

Of course I’m happy,” he responded. “I love you, and now you’re going to have my baby, why wouldn’t I be happy. Aren’t you?”

He was looking into my eyes with those sexy hazel ones of his.

“I’m happy too,” I smiled. And it was true. Now that I knew how he felt about the situation I was no longer nervous and with my nerves no longer on edge, I could think more clearly. It wasn’t my best case scenario for starting a family, being that I was only seventeen and still in high school, but we loved each other and that had to count for something.

You’re moving in with me,” he ordered. “We can grab some boxes at the U-Haul and get your things packed and moved by the end of the day.”

Let me talk to Mina first,” I pleaded. “And I can get my cousins to help me pack tomorrow. I just want to talk with her first.”

Talk to her all you want but by the end of tomorrow you’ll be living here with or without your things,” he warned. I gave him a nod and a quick kiss in agreement. He could be so damn bossy, but I loved him.

Later that evening, I called Daisy and updated her on the situation and then we three-wayed Keya and filled her in.
They both agreed to help me pack my stuff. I decided to spend the night at Mina’s since it would be the last night we lived under the same roof, so I called her up and told her I was going to come over and needed to talk to her about something important.

When I
got there she was lying on the couch watching T.V. and I joined her.

What did you want to talk about?” she asked, offering me some chips from the bowl she was munching from. I took some and crunched on them.

I’m pregnant and Tyga asked me to move in with him.” I figured I would lay it all on the table without further ado.

“Jesus, Angel how the fuck did that happen? Weren’t you using birth control or condoms,” she exclaimed, sitting up on the couch.

The condom broke,” I lied, feeling chastised.

You’re keeping it?”

I nodded yes.

“Oh honey.” She wrapped her arms around my shoulders. “I really didn’t want this for you.” Her eyes were shiny. “I wanted you to finish high school and attend college. I know I’m not a good mother but I had dreams for you.”

I’ll still do all that,” I assured her. “Having a kid doesn’t mean I have to give up on my dreams. Plus, I’m not gonna have to do it by myself, I’ll have Tyga and you.”

Does he treat you good? And be honest.”

He is great Mina. A little jealous sometimes but apart from that he’s great.”

What’s he got to be jealous about?”

He doesn’t like when I spend too much time with Keya. He has no problem when I’m with both Keya and Daisy, but if I do something alone with Keya, he gets suspicious,” I explained.

She chuckled.
“I think he thinks Keya is introducing you to other men.”

That’s so ridiculously. If I wanted to cheat on him I definitely wouldn’t need Keya’s help to do it. Has he looked at me lately?” I boasted.

We both laughed.

“Damn, I’m gonna be a mother again and a grandmother in the same year,” she sighed. “Ain’t that some shit.”

We spent the rest of the night laughing, talking and watching television, until Boss called and said he was on his way over. That
was my cue to make a hasty retreat. I took a shower and was knocked out before my head hit my pillow.

The following day my girl
s came over to help me pack my stuff. They brought me boxes, tape and packing paper. It took the three of us hours to pack everything I owned, which were mostly clothes, shoes, accessories and other knick knacks. Tyga came over and loaded it all in a small moving truck and we were ready to go. I thanked my cousins and said goodbye to Mina. I knew I wasn’t going to see a lot of her in the future. Not because I didn’t love her or wanted to spend time with her, but just being around Boss made me feel so fucking uncomfortable. Every time I saw him I felt like taking a shower afterwards. I was beginning a new chapter in my life and it was both a scary and exciting feeling.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

ANGEL

I was on my way to Daisy’s house for our usual last Friday of the month get together. We decided her crib would be our new hang out, since I moved out of Mina’s and we couldn’t expect to hang there anymore. I stopped in the bodega to grab a bottle of Hennessy for Daisy and Keya using my fake I.D. I couldn’t drink or smoke now, so I grabbed a pint of chocolate/vanilla ice cream for myself. While I was at the cashier paying for my stuff, Von came into the store. He was looking like his usual handsome cocky self and I didn’t know if I should approach him and say hi. After all he was my ex and we didn’t exactly break up on the best of terms. Luckily, he had no such reservations and came over to me smiling and gave me a one arm hug. I was a little surprised because the last time I saw him he was really pissed and gave me the impression he wouldn’t even spit on me if I was on fire.

What’s up Angel?” he asked.

I’m good,” I told him. “How have you been?”

Making that paper, that’s about it.” He shrugged. “Your cousin lives around here right?”

Yeah, over by Saint Lakes,” I answered. “I’m actually on my way to her house.”

You want a ride?”

Sure.”

Let me grab a coke from the fridge and then we can bounce.”

After we left the store we got into his red SLK Benz and rolled down the block. It was actually a short drive, we arrived at my cousin
’s in less than five minutes, but I appreciated it, because the sun was damn hot.

You’re still with that nigga?” Von asked after he double parked in front the building.

Yeah,” I answered truthfully.

You know I miss you right?”

I didn
’t answer, because I didn’t know what to say. I mean, in some ways I missed him, like how much fun we use to have together, but I didn’t want to say that and lead him on. I had moved on and was in a very happy relationship with a dude that I loved.

Not because we ain’t together anymore don’t mean we can’t be friends,” he joked. “There’s gonna be a BBQ/block party on my block tomorrow, you should come through and bring your girls.”

I’m not sure if they’ll be interested but I’ll definitely ask them,” I promised. I pulled up the add contact page on my phone and handed it to him. “Put your number in my phone and I’ll call you if we’re coming.”

He chuckled.
“You deleted a nigga’s number from your phone ugh?”

You got that right.” I smiled to take the sting out of the words. Tyga was the one who actually did the deleting, the night he got mad because he thought I was cheating on him, but I wasn’t about to reveal that to Von. “Weren’t you pissed at me the last time I saw you?”

He
shrugged. “Yeah, but I’m over that. Letting bygones be bygones and all that shit. We’re cool now. We’re friends right?” he gave me a puppy dog look that made me laugh.

Yeah, we’re cool.”

He programmed his number in my phone and then we said goodbye. I was happy I ran into him because I didn
’t like how things had ended. As long as he knew I was only interested in a friendship we would be cool. I entered Daisy’s building decided to forgo the elevator and took the eight flights of stairs to the fourth floor. When I got to the last landing I was sweating like a pig.

I knocked and Keya opened the door.
“What took you so long?”

I saw Von at the store.”

Von as in your ex Von?” she closed the door behind us and we made our way to the living room. Daisy was sitting on the couch with Kiki on her shoulder trying to put her to sleep. As soon as my god baby saw me she perked up. I put my bags on the coffee table, took her from her mother and kissed her all over her chubby brown cheeks. She was the fattest prettiest baby I knew, with way too much black curly hair. Her daddy is half Puerto Rican. “You’re ex Von?” Keya repeated.
