“I’ll tell you about him over dinner. I’m starving and I have to get home to pack for my trip.”

“What?!”

Zoie, Wynter, and Rayna exclaimed at the same time. They sounded as outraged about her not having already been packed as they were to learn that there might be a guy in her life whose name didn’t begin with a “d” and whose last name wasn’t Anderson. Yeah, she had a lot to dig her way out of tonight and not a lot of time to do it.

“Come on. Let’s get over my procrastinating ways and get to the meal that I’m sure y’all men have already sampled while we were in here.”

Chris looked deservedly guilty as he looked at the ceiling when his wife turned to glare at him. Lynnia smiled at her easy deflection. She knew it was only for a few moments. Her time wasn’t going to be wasted on watching things unfold as the wives fussed at their husbands. There was a story that needed to be made up because this dinner was going to be filled with a tasty little trip that her brain was cooking up as she followed her family into the dining room. Heads were going to roll when and if the truth came out. She’d deal with that later. Her goal for the evening was to keep her family rooting for her to have a good time with her special friend and worry about her a little less while she was away. Easier said than done, this she knew.
