Michael drove home like a maniac. I said I was sorry, but he wasn’t talking to me. Ok, maybe I didn’t have to accuse him of being a pedophile. With Michael mad, I decided to go alone to see David. Michael was supposed to go with me, but now I would have some alone time with David.

I put on a nice skirt, with a blouse and some good boots, then I went for a run. I would be there in an hour, I left earlier than I needed to. I would have some time to kill, but that was ok.

On the way there, I felt better than I had in a week; the stress of dealing with Devon melted away.

Chapter 16

The Cemetery

F
inally, David showed up.

He looked sexy with his black hair and Goth getup. Carrie floated behind him, not even bothering to walk. Why not, she is in a cemetery and dead. David and I moved together to embrace. We kissed, and Carrie made the Yuk noise.

Then I said. "Good, you made it. So, what did you find?"

David smiled,
and then flipped his book bag off his shoulder. "I got it… here it is."

He pulled out a round film can.

"Are you sure this is it; this is the movie of my death?" I asked, as I took the film can out of his hand.

David stopped smiling and cleared his throat. "I had to be sure; I knew you were watching Devon, and it would have all been for nothing, if I would have gotten the wrong one. Devon had them labeled by years. I am sorry for what happened to you."

"So you saw it?" I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.

"Just the beginning, and, as soon as I knew it was you, I turned it off." Then David added quickly. "I had to watch other films looking for yours. They’re all nasty, but a
few of them had him in it. They clearly showed him committing the crimes."

David opened his bag wider so I could see in; there were about five more round film cans. I felt the anger boil up in me, not at David, but at Devon, the same man that I had to hang out with. Lizzie was always talking about finding the evidence; well, here it is.

"We don’t need evidence. The only reason I want the film of my death, is so that I could destroy it. The only thing I can plan on doing with my film or other films is shoving them up Devon's dead ass. That way when they find the body, they will know why he had to die."

David's look was between fear and sadness. Then he said in a sad voice. "If you must… if you must kill him, then know I will help you."

I pulled David to me and embraced him. "No… not in this, my love; this time you and Carrie will stay home. I will not involve you in my revenge. I am afraid no matter what that The Order will come after me. I don’t want them after you as well."

Carrie jumped in and said,
"That’s why we got the evidence. Lizzie said they will find him guilty. We don’t want to be left out, while you are running from The Order. We're a team, and we should stick together."

I started to argue, but David interrupted me. "Until the end… we are with you Melabeth. Carrie and I will not leave you now. We will kill this man, and then we can prove your innocence."

I was truly touched. "No amount of evidence will keep The Order from coming after me. Don’t you understand? Look in your bag; look at all those cans of film. He wasn’t hiding this from all the members of The Order. Hell, those bikers are clearly in the film, and they are members of The Order. If you two follow me into this, evidence will not save you. We will have to fight our way through it. It might take years… just think about what I am saying."

"I have never been known for thinking; no reason to start." Carrie said.

David laughed, and then added. "I have thought about it, and, when I offered my help, it wasn’t on any terms. I have your back no matter what."

I had to hold back the tears. "You guys… you're too much."

Before I could say another word, there was a loud popping noise.

All of our heads whipped toward the sound, and then David said.  "Someone just teleported into the cemetery."

I could see the visitors before David and Carrie. It was Tony, Mab, Kelly and Lizzie. "It's your parents, and sisters."

"Great, what has Lizzie don
e?  This will complicate things," David moaned.

Yes, it would, and all four of them walked up to me and David. I noticed that Carrie pulled the disappearing act as soon as I said someone arrived. I could have probably flashed away, but I have a feeling that Lizzie ratted us out. I am not going to leave David to take all the heat by himself.

You could feel and see the anger coming out of Tony, and Mab had that mother's face that said: how could you have done this to your own mother?

Tony didn’t wait for us to speak. "I know what you two are up to. It is one thing to still be hanging out with this… this… vampire. She tried to kill your mother, and now you are planning on killing someone with her. Wait, not just someone… but a leading member in The Order. Why? I don’t even care why. I don’t even want to know why… this dead creature wants him dead for some past crime. The only thing I care about is that she is dragging my stepson into a life of crime. I don’t give a shit about her cause."

Lizzie looked at me; she had been crying, "Sorry, you were right."

David started to say something back when his mother interrupted him in a fit of tears. "What were you thinking, dear? You could still be charged with a crime. Did you know it is a crime to even plan a murder? Let alone help her go through with it; is she using mind control on you? Have you been using the blocks I've taught you? It's one thing that you allowed this monster to talk you into this craziness, but it is another that you involved Lizzie."

Well, I could have told you this would have been all about me, and, really I didn’t mind them blaming it all on me. In a way they were right; I may have not used mind control, but I was dragging David and Lizzie into a dangerous situation that could get them killed, or worse.

David looked at both of his parents right in the eyes,
and then said, "I have evidence of what Devon has done." David held up the film can in front of Tony's face. "I found the film, the film of Devon murdering her."

Tony's
voice softened, but just a little, "If you have evidence, let us bring it to The Order. If he is guilty of these crimes, then The Order will serve justice, not you, and not her. If you two help her in this, you will be murderers, and no one will care why, so let me help you, David. Let me help my daughter and stepson."

I couldn’t help myself; I laughed. Now everyone was staring at me, with hatred; David, between anger and tears. Lizzie stared at me while she was still wiping at her smeared makeup.

"They raped me in that film, and then they choked me to death. There is no way that I can prove I was human in that film. All he has to say is that I was a vampire, and it was a fantasy film, and, of course, he paid me to do it. What do you think would happen then, Tony?"

Tony didn’t take a second to answer. "Devon’s version makes more sense than your story. How would anyone turn you… when you're already dead?"

I knew this is how he would feel, but it still sucked to hear it out loud. I pushed my emotion back. I must keep a clear head. David was now fighting with Tony, basically telling him that he was an ass and that there was no way that I was lying about this, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Tony was not surprised by what I said. He even knew Devon’s defense… how? I interrupted the fight by yelling out. "You have already talked to Devon? He knows that I
am live, and he has already told you his lies. When did you talk with him?"

Mab spoke for him, waving her hands in the air as she spoke. "We need to protect David from you. There is no way we’re going to allow you to drag him into a life of crime. You will not take my children from me."

Lizzie spoke out. "As soon as I told him about it, he called Devon. I am so sorry; you probably should get out of town before it's too late."

Before David or I could respond, Carrie reappeared in front of us. She scared the living shit out of David's family. She ignored them and started to speak at one hundred miles per hour. "They’re here ya’ll… we’re surrounded, and they cast some spells around the graveyard. I don’t know what they all do, but I couldn't go through them. They have a bunch of guys with guns, and you know what else.  I saw Devon… we need to get out of Dodge… NOW."

"Too late," I said.

Now that I was paying attention to the surrounding area, I could make out movement in the tree line.  The cemetery had a lot of tall gravestones, and large oak trees stood about every ten feet. This was a good thing, for they have guns, and we will need cover. The cemetery rests upon a hill, the crest was the center of the graveyard. I was unable to see the other half of the cemetery. My guess is that the spell they placed would keep the dead from leaving and anyone from teleporting.

Tony doesn’t realize it yet, but he had signed his family’s death warrant by telling Devon about this. I am positive that this spell has a roof, so there will be no flying out. So, the only question that remains is, will they wait for daylight, when I am the weakest, or will they attack now? My guess is they will attack soon, one young vampire and a few witches and warlocks; they will hit us hard and fast.

Tony looked over at David with pleading eyes. “Come on… let’s get out of here, they’re not here for us... you don’t have to die for her.”

David’s eyes filled with anger, but, before he could let his stepdad have it, his mother said, “Take my hand and teleport with us. I will not watch my son die… not when I can save him.”

Before David could answer his mother, an idea came to me; I need David’s family to realize this attack isn’t just for me.

“Go with them, David… and hurry,” I said.

“I am staying…” David started to argue, but I pushed him into his mother’s arms.

I yelled at them as I stepped away. “Go… go now, if you can.”

David was about to pull away from his mother, but Tony was ready for this. He said some words and put his hand over David’s mouth. David fell back into his mother’s arms, unconscious.

I hadn’t been ready for them to knock out David; I just wanted them to see that they couldn’t teleport out of here. Then the whole family took each other’s hands, all of them except David, and they began to chant.

Carrie stood behind me,
“I can’t believe you are letting them take David like that. I will have to follow. We want to help you; I can’t stand to leave you all on your own. You could get hurt… or KILLED.”

Carrie was now giving me a hug.

I looked at her. “If this is how it could be, this is the way I would have it. Sorry to say… you are not going anywhere. I need Tony to figure this out; he needs to understand that Devon isn’t going to leave any witnesses. I need him to figure this out fast.”

Kelly was the first to stop chanting and say. “Dad we are being blocked. We can’t teleport; why are they blocking us?”

Tony gave her a reassuring smile. “They’re just trying to make sure that Melabeth doesn’t escape. All we have to do is walk out of the circle. Then we can teleport home. They will finish Melabeth without us.”

Mab gave me a hateful look,
and then said. “I would think twice before you try to stop us from leaving. You understand what I am saying?” She ended this by pointing her finger at me. She pulled that cross out from around her neck. “Don’t make me use this.”

Tony looked over at Mab, and said. “In this kind of spell, vampires can’t leave, but it also renders your cross useless.”

Well, the first good news I’ve heard tonight.

Lizzie spoke up. “She will let us leave, mom. She’s not like that.” Turning toward Tony, she asked. “Are you sure The Order will let us leave? I mean what about David?”

Of course this is why Tony had hoped to teleport out. He didn’t want The Order to get a hold of David. They didn’t like Necromancers, and he just broke into a leading Order member’s house, and then stole property; if Tony realized just what kind of evidence David had on Devon, then he would know how much trouble his whole family was in.

Tony looked at each member of his family and said. “Wait, I will go and talk with them. Once I have assured David will not be held
, I will come back, and then we will leave here together.”

Mab looked over at me nervously.  “Hurry, Tony.” She didn’t want to be left alone with me too long.

Kelly added. “Don’t worry, dad.  I got it.”

Lizzie just huffed. “Yep she has it… since Melabeth isn’t going to hurt us… if she wanted us dead, we would be. Damn, no one listens to me.”

Mab yelled at Lizzie. “Watch your language.”

Lizzie gave her a dirty look and said. “And that’s what you’re worried about?”

Tony talked fast but stern. “Stop, Lizzie; I will be right back; no one move.”

Before walking away, he gave me one last warning glace. In that look, he promised me death and pain if I hurt his family. Of course, the sad thing was he was dead wrong. I was ready to die for them and probably would.

He walked away toward the edge of the graveyard. When he reached the edge, he put his arms up.

The sound of gunfire filled the air… I watched in horror as bullets riddled
Tony's body.

Tony's
body fell on the ground. He had been so sure they were on his side, that he hadn’t even cast a self defense spell.

Mab let out a scream.
