J clutched at him, her face
rippling beautifully in ecstasy.
Dyos
had been hardly
aware of
Brale
, kneeling beside him, his heated mouth
descending unexpectedly on his.

“That was … wow. I don’t think I
have any words,” J said, her shining eyes infectious.

“Ready to go for
another round?”
Brale
asked.

“You two are going to be the death
of me,”
Dyos
said, not bothering to hide his grin.

The worst of their ordeal was now
over, he was certain of it. The three of them had been bent and twisted, tried
and tested, only to be re-forged into something stronger and unbreakable.

He remembered J, barefoot, dressed
in rags, emerging from the sewer entrance. She had stared, with equal parts
bewilderment and wonder, at the night sky. It felt ages since a slave,
a stolen
piece merchandise, eager to please and fulfill her
function, had emerged from a pod. Freedom had changed J. She lapped at the
fountain of life hungrily like there was no tomorrow, making her infinitely and
wonderfully more, and
Brale
and
Dyos
loved her for it.
An undeniably perfect fit to
Brale
and him.

Dyos
also
remembered a time and place etched deep inside the annals of his mind. The
first night he’d spent with
Brale
on the edges of a
battlefield while the
Hadarian
sky blanketed them.
That night had been a prelude to a lifetime of danger and excitement traversing
through the universe. It had also been a startling revelation their lives would
forever be intricately and irrevocably intertwined.

His mind traveled to the past and
looked towards a promising future that had yet to come. Escaping the capital
would be a monumental task, but
Brale
and
Dyos
had gotten out of equally bad scrapes before.
Dyos
began formulating plans, ways out of the capital, and
hidden routes to take to avoid detection.

Once they gotten safely out of the
capital’s wall,
Beras
, the closest port city with an
airship dock, would be several days of travel on foot and from there, it would
be easy. Farr might have the entire Hadrian army at his beck and call, but
Brale
and
Dyos
had spent years
building their contacts and resources. A couple of powerful clients and space
pirates owed them huge favors and they might need to call on all of them to
escape, but that was a small price to pay.

Then they had the client who’d
hired them to procure J. Dealing with him would not be easy, either, but with
Brale’s
negotiation skills, they’d somehow find a way to
appease him. They’d handled rich and greedy men for most of their career.
Dangle something shinier and expensive, and they’d cave.

“I’m certain we are going to be
just fine,” he said to the two people he loved most in the universe.
