Chapter One

Andrew came back to awareness as the heavy leather bag was pulled from his head. He blinked against the blinding lights until he could see, cold air seeming to whoosh over his sweaty face, and he was stunned to find himself inside of a plush room filled with mahogany furniture, bright red drapes, and a bed fit for a king. The thing even had a canopy over top of it.

This had been the last thing he expected after he’d been grabbed while out on his hunt. It looked like the president could spend the night here.

A face came in front of his, the red eyes curious and inspecting.

Vampire, was his first thought.

Andrew was drawn to those creepy eyes. Vampire eyes, despite their strange red hue, made whoever looked into them fall head over heels in love, and lust, and though Andrew knew better than to assume the attraction he felt for the skinny bloodsucker was real, his body reacted to it regardless.

“He’s awake,” the vampire said to whoever was standing behind  them. “Bring him inside.”

The thing that bothered Andrew about vampires, what bothered  pretty much every werewolf out there, was that vampires had no  natural scent. Unless they wore any kind of perfume, even the most  sensitive of werewolf noses couldn’t sniff them out, and these guys  were definitely not wearing anything, otherwise Andrew wouldn’t  have been captured, and he would already know how many other men  were in this strange building.

His nose couldn’t detect them, but his ears were still working fine,  even with how soft those footsteps were on this thick-ass red carpet,  and Andrew could make out the steps of at least two other vampires  coming into the room.

There was another one, similar in appearance to the vampire  who’d just confirmed Andrew’s state. Both were in Men in Black  attire. Guards. They probably came from lower vampire families,  which explained why they had to work for their livings. Either way,  their expressions were as serious as it got, and their hands were  clasped in front of them as they both stared down at Andrew. He  didn’t understand what the guns were for, holstered at their hips like  that.

Then another vampire came into the room, the second one that  Andrew had heard coming in. This guy was most definitely not a guard. He was the lord. His thick red robe―what was with vampires and red?―covered him from neck to toe. His pale blond hair was slick and wet from a recent bath, and it clung to his neck.

Unlike the two vampire guards, Andrew’s attraction to this vampire in particular went through the roof, and no matter how many dead kittens he thought of, or how often he pictured the pack’s wise woman, Old Maggie, naked, his erection sprang up, hard, heavy, and pulsing.

The fact that he was naked didn’t help anything in the least. He’d been captured while he’d been out hunting in his wolf form. The

fuckers probably wouldn’t have been able to sneak up on him, scent  or no scent, if Andrew hadn’t been preoccupied with the buck he’d  just killed.

Stupid, wasteful leeches had probably just left the carcass out  there to rot or to be picked at by the forest scavengers. Now it  couldn’t be used for the pack.

“Looks like the dog is all set,” said one of the guards, but he  wasn’t making fun of Andrew. In fact, the guy wrinkled his nose in  disgust down at Andrew’s cock.

“Stop staring at it if you don’t like it,” Andrew said.

The second guard came down on him with a palm to the face for  that one.

“That won’t be necessary,” said the lord vampire. “You may leave

us now.”

Both guards looked between each other. “But, sir―”

Those red eyes, so very different from those of the guards, flashed like rubies. “Now.”

Though both men clearly didn’t like leaving their lord alone with a mangy werewolf like Andrew, they both bit their lips against any protest they were about to give and went on their way.

The door closed gently behind them. So respectful.

The beautiful vampire knelt down in front of Andrew, his red eyes gentle as he looked over Andrew’s face.

Andrew’s heart picked up, and his breathing did the same.  Nothing heavy, he wasn’t gasping for air, but it did suddenly feel as though he’d come back from a jog or something.

It’s a trick. It’s not real, he told himself.

Finally, Andrew was able to look away. “Stop that.”

He could hear the other man’s confusion. “Stop what?”

“Stop doing that thing with your vampire eyes. I don’t like it.”

Skinny, white fingers touched his face, but Andrew wasn’t repulsed by this. He allowed the other man to turn his face so that they might look at each other.
