Chapter One

Finding His Subjects

Stephen Rozar gazed out into the abandoned automotive shop from a dark corner behind an old air compressor. He had to sneak into his position very slowly, working his way in from an open window about 90 feet from where he was standing. Getting into his position required him to move very stealthily, which took a significant amount of time. He didn't like anything that took a long time. When it came to what he was trying to achieve, time was not a luxury that he had.

The auto shop was very dark but once his eyes had adjusted, there was just enough light shining in through the space where the overhead door used to hang. He used the little bit of light to ensure that he would not fall from the ledge of the window that he was standing on. He stood still and took in the view that was just below him. The shadows coming in made a creepy pattern across the floor that made his skin crawl. He knew that there was something there. He just needed to concentrate so he could see it. As he stood as still as a statue, he was able to control every part of his body. As he relaxed, he
could actually slow down his beating heart so that his breathing would not impair his ability to hear the sounds around him.

The longer he stood upon the perch that he has placed himself on, the better he was able to make out the figure below. There was a young woman lying on the cold floor. If he had to guess, he would put her at about 18 or 19 years of age. From what he could see, she appeared to be very pretty. Not beautiful necessarily but definitely attractive. She had red hair that was pulled back into a tight ponytail and was dressed in a short denim skirt and a low cut blouse. Her blouse had been yanked down to the point that one of her breasts was completely exposed. Stephen did not normally let anything affect his main objective but he could not take his eyes off of her. He could not help but notice how smooth her pale skin appeared. Her areolas we a light shade of brown but appeared much darker in contrast to the milky color of her breast. Her nipple was hard, standing erect in response to the cool air circulating within the shop.

Stephen continued to watch as a dark, shadowy figure approached and stood over the young woman. He knew instantly
that this was his target. The figure appeared to be your typical man. He was dressed in a pair of dark cargo pants and a black t-shirt. He had jet black hair that came down to his shoulders. Regardless of his outward appearance, Stephen knew that this figure was no mortal man. He may have been at one time but not anymore. The figure that he was watching was a vampire.

The vampire stalked over the woman's body as though he was studying her. After several minutes, he slowly knelt down onto the floor next to the young woman, reached down and grabbed her by the back of her head. As this was happening, Rozar reached into the backpack that he was carrying and slowly removed a small sword. He grabbed hold of it tightly using his left hand while he trained his eyes on his subject.

Smiling, the vampire looked down at the young lady as she slept soundly. With her head still in his hands, he tilted it slightly until her neck was completely exposed. He stared as he watched her jugular vein pulsating in time with her beating heart. You could almost feel the excitement radiating from his body. Grinning even bigger than before, two fangs appeared,
one on each side of his mouth. Tilting his head back, he started to lower his head in the direction of the girl. As he did, a rodent went running behind him. It may have been a raccoon or a rat. Whatever it was, it turned his attention away from his victim.

Sensing that this was his one opportunity, Stephen slowly dropped down onto the floor. The landing would have been completely silent if it were not for the backpack slipping from his shoulder and hitting the ground. The vampire thrashed his head into the direction of the noise and realized that the sound was made by a human. This did not make sense to him. He could not fathom what this man must be doing in the abandoned shop. Stephen could see the confusion in his eyes. Vampires have specialized senses. They have the ability to smell humans, and they have an ability to feel their energy. There is no way that a mortal human should ever be able to sneak up on a vampire.

As the two stared one another down, the vampire began to understand exactly what was happening. The sword that Stephen was holding. The metal armor that he was wearing around his
neck. The backpack that had been specially altered. This man was a vampire hunter and, at that moment, he was staring down his prey.

As the vampire released the woman’s head and stood up, a grin came over Stephen's face. With his left hand, he took a secure grip of the sword that he had taken out of his backpack. After what felt like an eternity, the vampire let out a shrill scream, unlike any sound a human would be capable of making, and charged directly at the hunter. Stephen sidestepped out of the way, causing the vampire to lose his balance. As he did, Stephen took the small sword out of its sheath and sliced through the air. As the vampire was charging past, the sword caught him right in the neck, slicing the vampire’s head completely off. Instantly, his body fell to the ground motionless.

As was always the case when he had completed a successful hunt, Stephen did not feel that it was necessary to hang around to admire his victory. He reached into his backpack and took out a cloth, which he used to clean the vampire blood off of his sword. After replacing the sheath and tossing the
sword and cloth into his bag, he walked over to the young woman so he could check on her. While she was motionless before, she was now beginning to stir. With her previous captor dead, the mind control that she was under was now gone. As she was coming out of her daze, it became clear that she was still in pain and Stephen felt that it may be difficult to get her to safety. He used a special grip that he had learned in the military to ensure that she lost consciousness once again. His plan was to drop her off at the front door of a hospital where she could get proper medical attention.

Stephen carried the sleeping girl out of the abandoned shop and sat her softly onto the ground. After looking around to make sure she would be safe, he returned to the shop, found a gasoline can and doused the body and head of the vampire with the liquid inside. With the flick of a match, he set fire to the vampire.  He returned outside, scooped the sleeping girl into his arms and disappeared into the night.

Rhea watched them closely as they left the scene. She turned around to look at her mistress. Without needing Rhea to say a word, Vivian simply nodded her head to let her know that the question need not be spoken. Vivian had deep emerald colored eyes that shined in the moonlight. Her hair was as black as night and was slightly damp from the moisture in the night air.

"How many times does this have to happen? That is yet another one of our kind that he has killed in cold blood." Rhea said as she walked over to Vivian and wrapped her arms loosely around her. She laid her head down on Vivian's exposed bosom, nuzzling her face in the exposed cleavage.

"I know it is disturbing but he had it coming to him. The creature in that shop was not like us. He was going to kill that girl for no other reason than his own pleasure. It is better that he is gone." Vivian said as she stroked Rhea's hair.

"Are we going to be next? Is he going to spot us at some point and come after us too?" Rhea questioned, not bothering to lift her head up from Vivian's ample chest.

"That is a question that I do not have an answer for right now. All I know is that if he does decide to come for us, we must be ready for him."

Chapter Two

Making a Deal

Stephen sat down at his dining room table in the small house that he rented. He didn't know what it was but there was something about hunting vampires that left him famished. As he sat to eat the food he had prepared for himself, he tried to let his mind wander away from the things that had happened. In his line of work, it is vital that he be able to leave his work at the door. While there were times that doing this was difficult, it had become easier with experience. He found that meditating after his meal helped put it in the right frame of mind to separate work and home.

After his dinner was gone and his meditation was complete, he sat down to write a report of the events that had occurred. Since he had already cleared his mind, it was easy for him to tackle the report as though he had a typical office job. Once he was done typing it up into his computer, he uploaded it directly into the server that his superiors had set up for him. After that, it
would be read by the higher ups and placed in a file along with all the others.

Stephen Rozar did not hunt vampires because it was a fun hobby. He actually belonged to one of the most elite special agencies in the world. The group was top secret. If anyone were to ask if they existed, the answer was always no even if you were talking to a person on the team. The group consisted of government representatives from around the world whose only goal was to ensure that all of the vampires on earth were eliminated. The group was so top secret that they did not even have an official name. Although the majority of the operatives that were sent out to kill the vampires appeared rather unassuming by their looks, each of them were actually very dangerous. The agents went through intense training in a number of specialties. The most common training that linked the agents together was martial arts. Each agent was required to not only learn but become an expert in many disciplines of martial arts. This expertise helps whenever they are in direct hand to hand combat. There are very few agents on the team, and they work
almost exclusively by themselves. The majority of the agents do not even know who the other agents are.

After finishing up his work, Stephen was getting ready to settle into bed for the night when he heard a noise outside. He stood still next to his bed, focusing all of his energy on the sound he had just heard, which was another skill acquired by extensive training. No other sounds emerged through the walls so he channeled all of his energy to the outside of the house and that was when he felt it. There was a vampire outside of his home.

Stephen left his bedroom and walked into the dining room. His special bag was sitting in the corner. He reached in and grabbed his sword and moved to the window to have a look. He strained his eyes as he looked past the trees and shrubbery that lined his back yard. There was a fog in the air that made seeing at any distance quite difficult.

He was about to turn to look out another window when he finally saw a figure at the edge of the property. As his eyes focused, he could tell that the figure was female. The woman seemed to appear from out of nowhere. Stephen was confused at first but rationalized that she had simply used her supernatural powers to move from one location to another. Vampires liked to do these things to assert their power and scare their victims. If her intentions were to frighten him, it did not work. He simply was not afraid of anything.

The longer he stared at her, the more she started to come into focus. He could tell that she was relatively young. Her hair was long and blonde. Even at the distance she stood from him, he could tell that she was breathtaking. She stood silently still, staring back at him, the yard and window the only things separating them. She licked her red lips and grinned at Stephen. When her lips parted slightly, he saw her fangs.

A million thoughts began to flow through his mind. The vampire hunters relied on their secret identities to protect themselves from retaliation. Had this vampire somehow tracked him from his last kill? While it was obvious that she now knew his identity, would she use this knowledge to somehow figure out the identities of other vampire hunters?
