“If everyone’s ready, then it’s time
to get in the car. We don’t want Mommy to be late for her welcome
speech. Come on, Luc, let’s help Mommy with the diaper
bag.”
“I don’t know why I always have to
give the welcome speech. Aisyt or Qannik could do it just as well.”
Susan reached down and picked up little Matty. “I’d much rather
stay in the background with you, darling girl.”
“Qannik won’t be there this year.
She’s gone to Siberia. Aisyt is worried about her. Every year she
sees so many families reunited.”
“And hers never will be. Yeah, that
would be hard,” Susan agreed. “She’s done so much for the amarok
children. It’s too bad she can’t take pleasure from it.”
“She needs time to heal. Her work
helps, but she still hasn’t forgiven herself for her father’s
death. It might do her some good to get away for a while.”
Jean-Paul finished strapping Luc into his car seat and reached back
to take Matty. “I’ll put her in the car seat. Here you are, my
little darling. I like the outfit your Mommy put you in. Are those
suns or flowers on your dress?”
“I think they’re flowers,” Susan said
getting into the front of the SUV.
“Well, whatever they are, my little
darling looks great.”
Susan smiled. Jean-Paul was such a
good father. He finished putting Matilda into her seat and walked
around to get in the driver’s seat. Starting the car, he paused
before putting it into gear. Susan looked over
expectantly.
“Have I told you how beautiful you
look today?”
Susan smiled. “I think you might have
mentioned it this morning before we got out of bed.”
“How about, how much I love you?” JP
asked.
Susan nodded. “Yup, during breakfast.”
She loved how he took the time to remind her.
“Well then, what are we waiting for? I
want the whole world to hear your wonderful speech.” Jean-Paul
pulled out of the yard.
Susan laughed delighted. She’d always
have her new family’s love and support. She heard the promise in
JP’s voice. She needed him to keep her grounded while trying to
solve such a difficult problem as racism against the amarok
children. He had every intention of kidnapping her and taking her
away to ravish her. She couldn’t wait. She’d been so lucky to find
the perfect mate.
