“Now is not the time for your stubborn nature, Zena Vuk. You are one of us, but not fully. I could never hurt you and therefore must leave you once I’ve transformed. Do you understand my situation? It is always the same.

You know this, my goddess.” It was true. Niko’s powerful wolf form would be far too much for Rebecca’s fragile human body to endure.

“I don’t care. Give me all you’ve got!” Rebecca grit her teeth to show she was ready to embrace his untamed wolf nature. She scratched him, barely causing him to flinch.

“Wench!”
Gritting his teeth, Niko grabbed a fistful of her hair, yanking her head back.

Knowing his intentions, tears formed within her eyes as he held her face, quickening his pace. Words were unreachable for her as she tried to tell him she would always love him. It was clear to her now that he would never hold her in this realm against her will. She had a choice, as always. He loved her too much to ever cause her emotional pain. The decision was hers alone to make.

“Tell me you belong to me, Zena Vuk.” She closed her eyes when he spoke those words. She exhaled hard when he pinched her nipples. She placed her right leg over his and moaned while guiding his large hand from her breast to her clit. His strokes were soft and gentle at first, then they quickened as his cock pushed Rebecca to the brink of ecstasy. Her pussy gripped her hard, wanting seed to fill it to the brim.

“Oh God, yeah!” Rebecca yelled in a high pitched squeal that echoed through the bedchambers. “I’m yours. I belong to you, body and soul!” Her teeth grit together, and she became lost in the throes of passion. “Yes, oh, I want to st—”

“Zena Vuk!”
Be careful what you say, if you have doubts about staying with me.” Niko’s words were unselfish. He clasped his left hand over Rebecca’s mouth. “If you speak those words, you will become trapped within this realm. The veil between our worlds will close!” In Niko’s realm, words were strong, and once a long lost member of a tribe spoke a certain chant in the throes of ecstasy, realms could be sealed for all eternity. “You would be lost forever, never able to return to your home. I don’t want that for you, my love.”

Outside, wolves howl in unison with Niko and Rebecca’s cries, and a strong magical aura hovered within the atmosphere. Hearing them sing like a 22

chorus elicited chills and a strong sense of pride over her body. She gasped as she realized her mate was somewhere between man and beast. At first, she could barely understand his words.

When she rolled over on her stomach, he coaxed her onto all fours where he filled her to the hilt. His mighty balls slapped against her hot, sweaty body, and his grip tightened around her waist. She grimaced as sharp claws bit into her flesh. Teeth chattering, she closed her eyes as the claws found their way deeper into her skin, slightly breaking the thin barrier.

“Niko!” Rebecca bit her lip, savoring the pained pleasure. “Don’t stop.

Fuck me in your beast form!”

“Are you sure in what you say? The beast will fuck you hard, and without mercy.” His voice was almost demonic, sending searing bolts of pleasure through Rebecca’s core.

“Yes, I—want this!”

“No, I must leave before I shift. This is for your own safety.”

Need permeated every cell in her body. The desire to come was overwhelming. She could taste it, and she was certain he felt the same. Niko’s nose nuzzled her neck, eliciting chills of desire over her body while causing goose bumps to erupt over her moist flesh. Rebecca buckled beneath his weight as he finished her off in flat doggie. He never let up, and was ruled by animal instinct alone. He was quick. A few swift, demanding strokes of his cock pushed her over the edge.

Rebecca knew it was in her best interest to heed his warning. Her body strained and shuddered beneath the weight of the magnificent supernatural being. She gasped as her mortal body was pushed beyond its limits. She knew he was holding back out of fear of hurting her.

The wolf leaned down, grasping her fragile neck in his powerful jaws, and marked her. Rebecca’s cries of pleasure filled almost every room in the castle, and sadness engulfed her because she knew her time in this realm would end soon.

“Oooh, Niko. Uhh!”
Her brain realized she couldn’t take anymore, but her body yearned for the rough fuck of her dominant alpha wolf. Rebecca’s pussy clenched and released around Niko’s cock. The act that would make 23

this moment even more exciting was the fact that she and her wolf would come together, but that would not occur either. In an instant, hot seed washed her pulsating cunt as Niko howled his orgasm. Rebecca joined him in a high-pitched squeal, clenching and fisting the furs beneath them.

Loneliness embraced Rebecca as he exited the bedchambers with a painful howl. Tears stung her eyes as the last wave of her orgasm seized her insides. The howling wolves below became silent as the alpha male’s domineering voice penetrated the night. Heart racing, Rebecca rose from the bed and peered out of the small, pathetic excuse for a window to see a pack of beautiful wolves. Her heart lurched. Standing in the midst of them was Niko. Her heart ached as she observed a pained expression carved on his face.

At the sight of her, Niko became silent, piercing her soul with intense yellow eyes. “Niko!” Rebecca called down to him as tears streamed down her face. The large wolf lifted his head toward the full moon and howled for what seemed like forever. He still waited for her to make her decision, even in wolf form. “I love you.” Those words were all Rebecca could manage before emotion overpowered her.

For a fleeting moment, Rebecca was tempted to join him. However, she was not prepared to give up her own realm.
“You can never return home.”
The words rung through her ears like a warning. Niko continued to wait with much patience. She’d roam free with him and their pack, as they had long ago.

Rebecca sensed their eagerness for her to join them beneath the full moon. She shook her head, despite the wave of depression overpowering her like some dark cloud. That darkness resided deep within her soul. Knowing her decision, Niko threw his head back, and howled at the moon. With one last glance, he and the pack turned and dashed through the woods.

Regret filling her, Rebecca watched as they disappeared into the trees of the forest, their black silhouettes etched against the blanket of snow.

Momentarily, they stopped, turned and peered at her with yellow eyes as though her answer would change. Once again, she shook her head. The rest of the pack continued on while Niko stood alone. With sadness, he still 24

awaited the answer she could not give. With regret, he turned, disappearing into the winter night.

“What have I done?” Rebecca’s heart felt as though it was breaking into a million pieces, not just for Niko, but for them both.

“Why can’t I give him the answer he desires?” Rebecca spoke as though Niko were still in the room. “My love for you is strong and will never die, however, I can’t abandon my life to live with you here in this place.” With shame, Rebecca bowed her head at the thought of Niko paying a hefty price by protecting the three youngest members of their tribe. Since she was his mate, the penance was like a domino effect.

“I’m sorry, baby.” Rebecca’s chest heaved as tears stung her eyes. She turned around to look at the empty bedchambers. The candles continued their hypnotic dance as the Serbian night air filtered through the window.

Haunting shadows adorned the wall, causing her to feel as though she were not alone.

As pain from earlier exertions and bitter chills nipped at her body, she crawled beneath the furs, seeking refuge from her mental pain. The physical was nothing. Her decision now made, she knew it was time to move on.

When Rebecca awoke, she was lying on her back, naked in her own bed.

Clamping her legs together, she felt Niko’s seed trickling down her thigh.

Although happy to be in her own realm, she worried she would never see him again. With a sigh, Rebecca rolled over, falling into a deep slumber as images of her warrior wolf inhabited her mind.

Chapter Four

Rebecca awoke to a bright day, but somehow, darkness still dwelled inside her soul. After showering and dressing, she returned to her room, sitting down at the vanity. The memory of that night in thirteen eighty-nine escaped her. For now, all she could see were glimpses of the former life she and Niko once shared.

Often, she pondered how the Universe could be so cruel as to allow her to recall bits and piece of centuries old memories. Was this her punishment for lashing out in anger all those years ago? A deep yearning accompanying those memories tore at her heart and soul with every thought.

Niko had often appeared in her dreams and during meditation for as long as she could remember, offering comfort and guidance in her darkest times.

Now, a single mom of two beautiful girls, Helen and Myra, she remembered when Niko had first presented himself to her long before she’d become pregnant with her first born, Helen. In a way, he’d saved her from the temper of her ex husband, Mike.

Rebecca frowned at herself when she thought of what would have become of her if Mike had become a permanent fixture in her life. Ten and a half years had passed since he’d abandoned Rebecca and her children. For some women, that would have been devastating. For some unknown reason, it had been a blessing to her. She could never explain the relief she experienced as she rejoiced in his departure. Even so, as hard as she tried to deny it, loneliness tore at her soul.

She continued to look in the mirror. “What do you have to complain about? Come on, girl, enough with the pity party!” Rebecca shook her head and sighed. She figured she should have been thankful for her life and all that she possessed. She smiled as thoughts drifted to her children. They were both happy and healthy, and wanted for nothing. Her graphic design and massage therapy businesses were successful and money was never an object.

Rebecca fought hard not to dwell on the lonely side of her life as she began styling her hair.

She closed her eyes, remembering Niko’s touch. Even during her waking hours, he haunted her. His breath, scent, and voice stayed with her, leaving a lasting imprint on her soul.

As she made her way to the kitchen, Rebecca noticed how her daughters spoke among themselves while observing her. The aroma of coffee greeted her, and she smiled. Her girls were so thoughtful. They also sensed something had changed inside of her and the curiosity in their eyes shone through.

“What’s up, girls?” Rebecca fished through the pantries, searching for sandwich bags and snacks for their lunches. “Geez, I should have done this last night. I’m sorry, ladies.” The freshly brewed coffee invigorated Rebecca’s senses, and she stopped to show her daughters appreciation. “Come here, you two!” Rebecca squeezed the girls in an embrace and planted a kiss on top of their heads. She continued to make their lunches while they stared at her in awe. Helen approached, laying a hand on her mother’s shoulder.

“Mom, what’s wrong? Why do you look so sad?”

Rebecca turned to look at her oldest. “What do you mean? Nothing’s wrong, honey.”

“Mom!”

Rebecca turned again, seeing the sorrow and kindness in her sixteen-year-old’s eyes. Both girls were a reflection of Rebecca, with the exception of their mixed heritage. Myra was a smaller version of her sister. Both girls wore glasses, and had witty, outgoing personalities.

Within seconds, the teenager’s eyes exuded warmth and understanding. A smile of reassurance brightened her face. A moment of shame embraced her as Rebecca’s mind recalled the decision she’d contemplated the night before.

No! How could she have been so selfish to even think of bringing her daughters to a place such as the realm Niko existed in?

“Oh, honey, I’m not sad at all. I just have a lot on my mind.” Rebecca grasped her daughter’s hand and squeezed it. Giving the teenager a quick peck on her forehead, she continued packing her children’s lunches. “You girls need to bust a move, or you’ll be late for school.”

“I know what’s wrong with mommy. She’s missing someone.”

Rebecca froze in her tracks. Her little ten-year-old was wise beyond her years. She looked over at the youngsters in all their glory, for they appeared to have all the answers. Their familiar features were strong and dark, not like that of Mike, who possessed blond hair and blue eyes. Rebecca smiled as she thanked the heavens above for her children. “You two are a trip. Now get your stuff and stop digging around in your momma’s love life.” Rebecca felt the heat of embarrassment rise to her face as she turned her back to her daughters, trying to hurry so they wouldn’t be late.

“Myra, hush!”

Rebecca giggled as the two bickered amongst themselves. “Can’t you be a little more discreet?”

“Helen, go easy on your sister. She meant no harm.” After making their lunches, Rebecca cleaned the kitchen. “You’re going to be late for the bus if you don’t hurry.” She glanced at the clock on the microwave.

“Mom, I am curious to know, why don’t you have anyone special in your life?” Helen’s eyes pierced through Rebecca as she pondered the question.

“You see, little one. No one I have ever dated was suitable enough to enter the small circle of our family. You girls are precious to me, and the small amount of men I dated over the years did not fulfill my expectations.”

Sadness settled over Rebecca again because there was only one who met her expectations, but he existed within another realm.

“Why did you give up?” Myra asked as she twitched her nose. “You should never give up. That’s what you’re always telling Helen and me.” The little ten-year-old crossed her arms and patted her foot like she was an adult.
