HERB TO THE RESCUE
There are a number of herbs that will repel cockroaches. They are bay leaves, cucumber and cayenne. Cucumber peelings work very effectively to deter them. Place them wherever a problem exists and the cockroaches will not frequent that area.
THE CATS MEOW
A natural repellant to cockroaches is catnip. The chemical in catnip is called nepetactone, which is harmless to humans and pets.
If you leave small sachets of catnip in locations that the cockroaches frequent, you will never see a cockroach. If you make a tea from catnip, allow it to cool and then place it in a spray bottle it will eliminate you’re ever seeing a cockroach again.
A CLEAN ROACH IS NOT A HEALTHY ROACH
A method of killing cockroaches is to place 1 tablespoon of Ivory Liquid Soap™ into 1 quart of water then place the mixture into a spray bottle and spray the cockroach. This is an instant kill since they hate to be clean.
ONE OF THE MANY USES FOR BAKING SODA
If you place a small shallow bowl where you are having a roach problem with equal parts of baking soda and powdered sugar it will kill the roaches.
Make sure this is kept away from pets and small children.
BOTTOMS UP, LITERALLY!
Take a 1 pound coffee can and place 2 slices of bread in it that have been soaked with beer. Place the can anywhere a roach problem exists. Save the lid and dispose of the canned roaches.
A LITTLE HERE, A LITTLE THERE
Sprinkle boric acid down any cracks or crevices in non-food areas.
This is toxic so keep it away from children or pets
.
This is usually the treatment of choice in hard to reach areas only. This is also one of the items that roaches have not developed a resistance to. Boric acid is a poison.
THE SWEET ROACH EXTERMINATOR
The following ingredients will be needed:
½ Pound of borax
2 Pounds of powdered sugar (10X)
½ Ounce of cocoa powder
1 Ounce of sodium fluoride (from pharmacy)
Place all the ingredients in a small bucket and mix thoroughly. Sprinkle in areas where the roaches frequent.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
DOING THE BACKSTROKE
The reason you see roaches lying on their back when they die is that they are killed by an inhibition of cholinesterase, which is an enzyme that transmits nerve impulses to the muscles. When they die there is a loss of muscular control resulting in violent twitching that forces them to end up on their back. The violent twitching causes their center of gravity to become higher than their center of balance.
THIS APPLE WAS PROBABLY USED BY THE WICKED WITCH
Hedgeapples have been used for hundreds of years to repel cockroaches. They are the fruit of the Osage orange tree and contain a natural chemical that repels roaches. It only takes one small apple in a room to eliminate the roaches. Hedgeapples will last about 2 months before needing replacement. Hedgeapples can be obtained through the Internet at

WALKING THE PLANK
Place Vaseline® around the inside rim of a medium size jar, then place half a banana in the jar and put a piece of wood or tongue depressor on the outside of the jar to be used as a ramp so that they can easily walk into the jar to get the banana. The Vaseline® will make it too slippery for them to get out and they die.
HERE YE, HERE YE DOCTOR DOES IT AGAIN
One of the best all-natural methods of pest control, especially cockroaches is to place 1 capful of Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Soap™ in 1 quart of warm water and spray the areas where you have a problem.
THE LARD ROACH EXTERMINATOR
The following ingredients will be needed:
½ Cup of all-purpose flour
1/8 Cup of granulated sugar (any sugar will do)
¼ Cup of lard
8 Ounces of boric acid
Cool tap water
Place all the ingredients into a small bowl and blend thoroughly making the solution into small balls of dough. Place 1-3 dough balls into an open small plastic bag and place in areas where the roach problem exists.
This is toxic and needs to be kept out of reach of children and animals.
SPICE ‘EM UP
For a really hot roach, just place 2 tablespoons of Tabasco Sauce™ or other very hot sauce in 1 quart of water then mix well and spray the areas where a problem exists. You will never see another roach!
BAITING THE GERMAN ROACH
If you are going to use bait on a German cockroach there are certain foods they prefer over others. They are very fond of flour, brown sugar and light Karo® syrup. They prefer carbohydrates to proteins as well. Being German they love their beer but it has to be stale since they don’t like the carbon dioxide. If you lace any of these foods with 5% food-grade DE or borax it will do the trick.
Be careful of pets and children around the baits.
THE KILLER VACUUM
If you are sure that you have roaches, wait until at least 1 hour after dark and go into the room you suspect with a red light (don’t turn on the room lights) and a vacuum, then vacuum up all the roaches. If you are going to use a dry vacuum, place 1 teaspoon of cornstarch in the vacuum bag to kill the roaches.
THE ROACH MOTEL
Use a 2-liter plastic soda bottle and cut off the top about 3-4 inches down. Place some Vaseline® around the inside of the top and the bottom that is left, then place the top you cut off inverted (like a funnel) back into the bottle. Then duct tape the top back on and place masking tape around the bottle to make it easy for them to climb up. Then place a few pieces of bread soaked in beer inside. They will enter and not be able to leave because of the Vaseline® is too slippery.
THE ROACH TRAP
There are a number of roach traps on the market, which have a one-way door. The bait is placed inside and they can’t get out.
These are very effective if placed in the right areas where they frequent.
BAKING 101 FOR ROACHES
To prepare roach dough, just combine ¼ cup of Crisco® with ½ cup of 10X powdered sugar, ¼ red onion, ½ cup of all-purpose flour and 8 ounces of baking soda (very fresh). Add water as needed to prepare a dough-like consistency. Make the dough into small balls and leave out for the roaches to find.
ROACH & ANT REPELLER
The following ingredients will be needed:
1 Cup of borax
¼ Cup of crushed fresh black pepper
¼ Cup of crushed bay leaves
