Next comes the drugs, and Bear tries to intervene with me helping.
I don't think that's a good idea, brother. Maybe you should sit this part out.
With agitation I tell him,
Bear, I am fine, I promise. I haven't even thought about getting high since I was let out. I am not going to fuck up again, you have to trust me. Finding the girls is too important. Let's just get this shit loaded and get the fuck out of here.
Romeo takes my side.
Bear, he's good. We need all the help we can get. The more hands, the faster it goes. So c'mon, let's get this shit done.
Bear concedes and we get to work on loading the rest of the drugs and money. Finally, when the storage unit is empty, we say our goodbyes and tap the side of the van. I climb back in Bear's truck because there was no way was I riding bitch on a bike. We pull out and head back to the clubhouse, where none of us get any sleep that night.
ZOEY
I watch as Ever soundly sleeps and try to come up with a plan. I was the first to wake up in this shitty little room, followed by Chasyr and then Jacey. The floor is concrete, which makes my ass hurt from sitting so long. It's cold and dark in here. There aren't any windows, so we can't see out. The only light we have is the dim one hanging from the ceiling. The walls look like concrete bricks, and there isn't any indication of where we are.
The room is completely empty, except for the four of us and the posts that go from the floor to ceiling that they have us tied to. “Do you guys remember anything?” I ask while continuing to look around.
“No, everything is really fuzzy. I'm sick of this kidnapping bullshit though, and when we get out of here, if the guys haven’t killed them already, I will myself.” My gaze lands on my best friend. Jacey was kidnapped a few months back by one of the Cobras, Crawler.
“How are the guys going to find us Jacey? We don't even know where we are. We are tied to these posts, so we can't even see if we have our phones.”
“Hey, they will find us.” Chasyr cuts in.
I look at him. “How, Chasyr? How are they going to find us?”
“Has Hanger ever let you down before?” Chasyr looks to Jacey. “Has Bear ever given up on you?”
“No,” we both reply in unison. I know I shouldn't be doubting him, but I am freaking the fuck out. I have to calm myself down before Ever wakes up. I just want to go home to my husband and my babies. Oh God, the kids!
“We will find a way out of here, trust me. The guys will find us, so let's think back. How did we get here?” Chasyr takes control of the situation.
“The last thing I remember is being at Ever's store,” Jacey tells him. I do remember being there, but then what happened? I go back, trying to remember. Then it hits me!
“Oh shit! The moving guys! It was them that took us, it has to be. We drank that champagne, but they didn't. They had to have drugged us.”
“Motherfuckers.”
“Son of a bitch.”
I see my sister start to stir. I can't communicate with her. I can't reassure her that everything is going to be fine. She frantically searches the room and then sees all of us. When her scared wild eyes land on me, it calms her some. We have to come up with something.
“It my fault you're here with us, Chasyr I'm so sorry I made you drink that champagne. If I wouldn't have pushed you when you kept telling me no, you wouldn't be here now.”
“Hey, don't do that. Don't blame yourself. You might have been pushy, but you didn't hold a gun to my head. Besides, I'm glad I'm here with you girls.” He gives me a half grin.
“Chasyr, how are we going to get out of here?” I ask when my fight instincts kick in. We have to get out of here, we have to go home.
“They have us tied with rope. I have been trying to rub it against the post, but I don't think I am making much progress,” he responds, the beads of sweat gathering on his scrunched forehead.
Jacey jumps in quickly. “Be quiet.” We stop talking so we can listen, and that's when I hear the sound of heavy boots hitting the floor. In a whispered voice, she asks, “Do you guys hear that?” We both nod, while we wait to see what happens.
A few seconds later the door opens. My heart races, waiting to see who it is. Three big, built men walk into the room, all dressed in black with masks over their faces. At Ever's store there was four, where's the fourth man? “Good, you all are awake,” the first guy says in a rough deep voice.
“Who are you and what do you want with us?” I yell, but my voice comes out more shaky than I would like it to.
“We want to bring down the Sinners.” He states it like it should be obvious.
“And you think you can do that through us?” Jacey asks, then adds, “They are going to find you and kill you all.”
The second guy laughs, then says, “We are counting on them finding us, but we won't be the ones dying this time.”
All color drains from Jacey's face when she hears his voice.
The first guy tells him to shut the fuck up before turning his attention back to us.
“Now, we want to let them know as of right now you all are still alive.” He pulls out a phone and punches some numbers into it.
“Hello Hanger. I have your wife here, would you like to talk to her?”
He puts the phone to my ear. “Hanger?”
“Yeah baby, I'm here. Are you okay, they hurt you?” At the sound of my husband's voice tears well up in my eyes.
Clearing my throat, I respond, “No, we're all okay. You have to find us baby. I love you so much. If something happens...” The phone is ripped away from me and the sobs start taking over.
I scream out in frustration. I try yanking myself away from the post, hoping that the rope will break. The rope cuts into my skin, burning the flesh my hair flies around wildly. I am sure I look like a crazy person, but I don't give a shit. We are getting the fuck out of here and we are getting back to our families. A deep laugh comes out of the three men and then I hear the door slam shut.
“Zoey, you have to calm down.”
My eyes narrow on my best friend. My voice rough and raw from screaming, I ask, “How the hell are you going to tell me to calm down, Jacey?”
“Because you acting like that isn't going to get us anywhere. We have to be smart about this, so calm the fuck down.”
I see the smile take over her face. How the fuck can she smile at a time like this?
“I guess I got a guy that didn't know what the fuck he was doing.”
Right when I am about to ask what she is talking about, she lifts up her hands.
She is untied!
I look around at everyone, while trying to calm myself, to see their smiles as well. Jacey stands up and shakes out her wrists before coming over to me. She puts her palms against my cheeks and holds my face.
“I know you're scared, but we are getting out of here. So you have to calm down, okay?” I nod while she kisses my forehead then lets my face go.
She walks behind me and soon I feel my hands free from the rope. I shake my wrists then run over to Ever while Jacey runs over to Chasyr.
Once we are all free and standing, we come up with a plan. Chasyr goes into action.
“I never heard a lock so I assume we can get out. These dumbfucks probably thought we were tied tight enough and they didn't need to lock it. I want all of you to stay behind me. I'll check, and then we get the fuck out of here.”
I let my sister know what he said and we all nod while he walks to the door. Chasyr holds one hand against the door and with the other, he turns the handle. Sure enough, it is unlocked so he slowly starts to open it and peeks his head out. Chasyr turns his head from left to right before looking back to us. He gives us a head nod and ushers us out of the room.
The hallway is lit up with fluorescent lighting, but it still doesn't give away where we are. The walls are painted what looks to be yellow, but it's dingy and dirty. The floors are now tiled and there is a set of stairs ahead of us. We set a fast-pace walk, with Jacey and I in front, Ever in the middle, and Chasyr at the back.
We get to the end of the hall and stop so Chasyr can check it for us. Turning his head left and right again, he gives the all clear. We decide to go left and pick up our pace once again.
There are closed doors on each side of the hall that we check to see if they are open, but they all seem to be locked. We go a little further down the hall, then Jacey skids to a stop, throws her arm in front of me, causing us all to make an abrupt stop.
I cock an eyebrow as she puts her index finger over her mouth, showing me not to say anything. That's when I hear men talking, the same men that were in the room with us. We stand there, listening for a minute.
“Don't you think we need to give them bastards some idea of where we are?”
“They're smart, they'll figure it out eventually.”
“I wouldn't mind taking the blonde one.”
“There's two blonde ones, asshole.”
“One has pink in her hair, but shit, it don't matter to me. I'd wet my dick with any of them.” My stomach clenches and it makes me want to gag that they are talking about us like that.
They all laugh.
“We've had them down there for twenty-four hours. You think we should give them some water or food?”
“Yeah, maybe we should take them something.”
Chasyr tells us, "C’mon, we gotta get out of here. Let's go this way.”
He points to the opposite direction as we just came from. I grab a hold of Ever's hand and we take off in a sprint down the hall. Chasyr stays in back, Jacey gets in front, Ever and I in the middle as we run. We round the corner as one of the guys shouts, “Hey!”
We pick up our pace, running like our lives depend on it, the pounding of heavy boots behind us. Quickly looking over my shoulder, I see one of the guys round the corner. The mask is off, but I don't recognize him so I turn back around and keep running.
I hear the shouting behind me, but I can't make out the words. I look over my shoulder again to see Chasyr on the ground. He is rolling around with the man, the other two are yet to be seen. I tug on Ever's hand, stopping her in her tracks, Jacey also stops. Chasyr looks up at us, “Go! Get out of here.”
“We are not leaving you!” I shout back.
“I'll be fine. You need to get out of here. Now! Take that gun with you.” Somehow, he had gotten the guy’s gun away from him, it's just lying there on the ground. When Chasyr tells me to take it, the guy starts scrambling to get the gun. He can't though, Chasyr keeps him down so I can run over and grab the pistol.
I don't want to leave him here! Jacey grabs my arm while I still have a hold of Ever and starts pulling us away.
I yell out, “Be safe! We will get the guys to come back for you.” Then we are going around another corner.
★★★
So many hallways and doors, I don't know how long we have been running, but it feels like hours. Finally, we see a door straight ahead. I think it may lead to the outside. We rush to get there when we hear the heavy thumping of boots against the tiled floor. Jacey reaches the metal handle and turns, as we all throw ourselves into it and the door swings wide open.
The bright light from the sun shines heavily down on us, blinding us for a moment. I look up at the building we were held hostage. It looks like maybe an old mill or factory of some sort. Four stories high and old brick, with boarded up windows. I rapidly blink a few times, and while still having a hold of my sister, I use my free hand to shield my eyes from the sun. Jacey is doing the same when we hear yelling.
“I'm going to catch you bitches!”
That’s our cue, we take off again. Running at full speed, I look over my shoulder to see him get out of the door. I pull Ever along, faster than before. I am running so hard I feel like my legs are going to give out or fall off. We make it a few more minutes before I hear the gun shots ring out around us. We duck and weave, trying to miss them. I pull my sister down and this way and that way. Then something happens, the shots stop.
I feel my hand go empty, causing me to quickly halt. Ever isn't next to me. I see her face down on the ground a few steps behind us. I turn completely around and I see the man loading his gun again. Before he has a chance, I grip the gun in my hand, raise it and aim, then I pull the trigger. I hit the guy right in his chest, just like Hanger taught me, but I don't stop there. I keep shooting the son of a bitch that shot my sister until I have emptied the mag.
