She headed towards the bath house, but looked around first to make sure no one saw her slip in the men’s side. The campgrounds were quiet since it was after eleven now. Most of the campers were older folks who came to take a ride down memory lane with Elvis. Which meant early to bed for the old folks. Which was lucky for the two of them because Abby was about to do some serious lovemaking damage in the bath house.

It was a few nights ago she was a virgin and now here she is sneaking up on her love like a wild cat in heat.

Chapter 4

She slapped a hand over her mouth as she made her way in the dark towards the shower stall to keep from making any noise. The ceiling lights burned low and left shadows flicker across the cement block walls. Chills rent the air as night time descended on the building. Abby took one last look to make sure no one entered behind her.

Jon picked a stall at the far end of the building. Abby began her trek towards running water. Steam drifted out of the stall and she peeled away the curtain hanging from what looked like dollar store plastic hooks with those cheesy clam shells in bright yellow attached.

As quiet as she could, Abby slipped out of the sundress she wore. Soon after the bra fell to the bench. She made her way around the corner where Jon stood under the shower, his back to her, his face in the water as it cascaded over lean muscles. She thought she would surprise him but the closer she got, she noticed his back stiffen and his hair swung back as he whipped himself around to face her.

The wild look in his eyes stopped her in her tracks. He didn’t say a word. His body moved towards her own, his eyes worked their way down her naked body. A guttural groan escaped his mouth right before he crushed her body to his. He moved them under the water, its heat pummeling her skin as her nerve endings became so aware of him it took her breath away.

This was different than the other night when he was careful not to hurt her. His body ached, his heart broken, the need to help him release pent up tension and frustration took over. His touch became greedy, his heartbeat quickened as he pressed his flesh harder against her. The kiss was so deep and filled with so much passion Abby became possessed by his need. She wanted him to get lost in their passion and begged him to love her, to take her now. “Please.”

“Baby, I don’t want to hurt you but I can’t help myself,” he moaned right before he pulled her legs up and she clasped them around his waist. He guided her hips towards him and sank himself in to her. She felt him shudder and felt him grow even larger. With eyes closed she felt the familiar stroke of him as he pumped in to her. The water ran across their heated skin but all she could feel was him. Her hands dug in to his shoulders and she flung her head back as the feel of him inside her built up. Water cascaded over her face, in her mouth but she didn’t care. Her breasts bounced against his chest as he pounded her flesh again and again and again, his strong, muscular arms holding her to him.

His voice raw, husky, told her to open her eyes. “I love you,” he moaned. When he said those words she saw his eyes go back in his head as he shuddered and let go of himself in one complete moment as he pumped in to her so hard she climaxed against him at the exact same time. She cried out so loud he stopped her cries with his mouth, caught just in time as heavy steps fell across the cement floor.

Abby’s eyes widened. Jon leaned his forehead against hers while he got himself under control. He kissed her as she slid to her feet, unable to quite stand on her own yet. “Shh,” he whispered against her mouth. “I’ll get you out of here.”

At this point Abby didn’t care any more if someone caught them in the showers together. But at the same time, she knew from her volunteer work in nursing homes how older people thought. There view on life was a bit different than young people and they didn’t care who knew. No, Abby wanted to enjoy her time here and realized there were too many old people in the campground. She snickered.

“What’s so funny?” Jon mumbled against her cheek.

“If I get caught, they’ll brand me the campground floozie.”

He grinned and began to dry her off. “We’ll have to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

After getting dressed, the moment Abby heard the other shower start up, she scampered across the floor towards the door. She ran outside and stood behind a tree while she waited on Jon. Her hand went over her mouth when she saw a little old lady in a robe slither along the wall from the ladies side of the showers. Abby hid further in to the shadows, her shoulders shaking.

Jon almost walked in to the woman when he left. “Ma’am,” he said, his voice filled with humor. He turned around when she stood there, frozen, uncertain. “The place is empty. Go for it,” he told her and began to whistle. Abby’s chest rumbled as she tried not to laugh.

She caught up with him and took his hand. “I guess I’m no longer the campground floozie.”

He slung an arm around her shoulder as they made their way back to their site. “I like when you surprise me.”

She grinned. “Good to know.”

“I can’t believe I’m up this early,” she told Jon. They were at the small table inside the RV having a cup of coffee and steel cut oats.

“Thanks for getting up with me. I can’t believe you’re awake.”

She grinned. Jon was a routine kind of guy. Never spontaneous. He made it a point to find a surgery every single morning, leaving the camp at 6AM. She wasn’t a morning type, so she’d stay in bed while he had his coffee.

He tried to let Penny out for a run but the thunder outside had her hightail it back inside after a few minutes. “It sounds like rain today. I’m glad you got up this early to help.” Abby offered to sit with the little boy Jon was so concerned about before her volunteer session. It eased Jon’s mind about the little guy and she wanted to meet this child. If she could make him smile after all he’d been through it would be worth it to get up at the break of dawn.

“How did you get home last night? I never heard the motorcycle. When you sat here in the dark, it surprised me to find you here.”

Jon shrugged. “It broke down. I tried to call you but you left your phone in the RV, so Sallie gave me a ride home.”

Sallie!
After last night she shouldn’t have an ounce of jealousy three feet near her, but Abby couldn’t help herself. “I see.”

“You should carry your phone with you.” Jon stared at her over his bowl of oats.

“I do most of the time. Last night, well, I was feeling a bit put out.” She reached across the table and took his hand. “I was all alone so Penny and I walked up to the pavilion. That’s where I met this sweet old lady who invited me to have some wine with her. It was better than sitting around here by myself.”

Jon stopped his spoon halfway to his mouth. He set it down and leaned in to her. “Baby, I’ve neglected you on the adventure of your life haven’t I?” He shot a hand through his hair and dropped a kiss on her mouth. “I’m sorry, I get so caught up in medicine. This is an opportunity for me to see things I’d never see in the Keys. I won’t do it if it causes you grief.”

She felt awful all of a sudden. “Oh Jon, I’m fine. I don’t know, I thought we’d be out doing things after my volunteer work. Sometimes I hate going alone in a strange town.”

“I don’t want you out there in the streets of Memphis on your own.” He stood up and pulled her to him. “I love you Abby. We’ll be here for three months. We need to come up with a plan.”

“I don’t like plans, I’m a free spirit.”

“I’m not. We need a routine, baby.”

She kissed him and ran her hands over his shoulders and down his arms. “I love you for who you are too. But I need you to be with me more than in bed at night or for coffee in the morning. I want to experience everything while I’m here. I want to see Elvis’s mansion, the streets of Memphis at night when the music scene is going strong and I want you with me to do it. After your day at the hospital, you seem exhausted.” She let out a long breath and looked in his eyes for a response.

He grinned. “I guess I’m this stuffy doctor who can’t get enough of his medicine. Teach me to be better baby. I need you.”

Bright lights burst through the front window of the RV. The annoying sound of a loud horn began to blow. Jon ducked out the front door to see who it was while Abby stood still. There was one other person who knew where they were and her name was Sallie. Dread filled her up so much Abby wanted to scream at the top of her lungs.

Jon and her were starting to understand each other. They had a lot to work on in their relationship, didn’t everyone? She didn’t need a Sallie to come along and mess things up.

A cloud burst open and the rain pelted the roof of the RV as Jon slammed the door behind him. Abby stood in the center of the floor and waited because the car’s headlights still shone in the window. She twisted her hands together.

He shook the rain from his shoulders. “Baby, if you don’t mind, I’ll catch a ride with Sallie. I can’t turn her away, she drove all they way out here to pick me up and now you won’t have to go out in this storm. There’s another surgery around eight I want to see.” He poured his coffee in to a take along mug and popped the lid on. “I promise I’ll even come home with you this afternoon. What time are you coming in with Penny and Pete?”

Abby stood stiff, her hands stilled. “Doesn’t Sallie have a phone? We could have saved her the trip.”

“You serious, Abby? It’s not as if she doesn’t have a life at the hospital. She was kind enough to come out here so I could see some life saving surgery today.” He glanced at his watch.

“I’m jealous.”

There. It couldn’t be helped. She had to be honest and tell him how this green monster was invading her mind and causing Abby to hate the woman who waited in the car.

He turned and wrapped his hand around the back of her neck and drew her in with a lingering kiss. “You should know you are the one I want.”

She whispered in desperation. “I’m sorry. I’ve never loved someone as much as I do you. These feelings are so new and unfamiliar. Is there something wrong with me for feeling this way?”

Jon titled his head. He reached out and slid a finger down her cheek. “Not at all baby. I don’t mind if you’re a bit jealous. Gotta run. I’ll see you soon.” He patted the top of her head as if she were a well trained puppy and slammed the door on his way out.

Abby spotted the coffee on the counter and grabbed it before she ran outside in the rain. He rolled down the window and reached for the mug. Just as she leaned in to give him a kiss, the car began to drift away. Abby had no choice but to jump back. Total devastation ran through every single crevice and vein in her body. She stood in the rain as it tumbled around her and stared at the car.

You bitch! You do want my man!

All at once the red lights in the rear of the car flashed several times before it came to a complete stop. The door flung wide open and Jon’s long leg poured out, then his other. He stalked over to her like a man on a mission, bent his head and placed his mouth over hers in a quick kiss with a bit of tongue and a promise for later. Raindrops pelted them both. He turned and fled back to the dryness of the car, slammed the door shut and then the car disappeared down the driveway.

Abby stood in the rain speechless as a smile curved on her mouth.
What do ya think of me now, Miss Sallie?

Abby stood over the child’s bed when he began to stir. This five year old child had so many wires and monitors attached it scared her. His face was pale, his head shaved. Stubs of short blonde hair stuck out from his head where there were no bandages.

Tiny blue eyes opened. He stared at her with the look of a sad puppy who got lost and had no place to go. “Hi there.” He blinked but didn’t answer. She wasn’t even sure he could talk yet. After the type of surgery he had, the nurse told her sometimes it took a while before they got speech back and sometimes it could affect him where he’d never talk again. They wouldn’t know until he tried to speak. She moved closer to the bed to touch his hand.

“Can you hear me Kevin?” she asked. He stared, but it scared her because his eyes looked so empty, a bit wild and she wasn’t sure he could see her. Then out of the blue his small pupils began to focus and his steady eyes stayed on her own. She smiled and after a moment he released a lopsided grin. Abby didn’t realize she let out a big whoosh of air from her lungs. “I’m Abby and I’m here to spend some time with you, is it okay with you?”

The boy’s fingers began to stir as he tried to squeeze her hand. He nodded but when he did he winced. “Don’t move or talk. I’m going to tell you a story.”

His lips trembled a fraction as he began to move his mouth. “Is mommy here?”

He knew his mother wasn’t here, it was so clear her heart ached for this little boy whose mother thought more of men and drugs than this precious child. She pulled up a chair and sat beside him, her arm resting on the side of his bed in case he wanted to touch her hand.

She tried to give him an answer he could live with because he need to heal. Abby shook her head. “Not right now.”

He tried to twist his head towards her but stopped himself. She scooted closer, so he didn’t have to move to see her, and raised the head of his bed at an angle. “She doesn’t like me very much.”

Abby needed to acknowledge she heard. “I’m sorry she’s not here for you. I’m sure she likes you. But since she’s not here, I have a friend that would love to meet you. She’s waiting outside. May I bring her in?”
