Ain't No Future Right for Me

January 20, 2012

Friday 3:10 pm – Miami, Florida

This some real live bullshit!” Trevon muttered behind the wheel of his newly painted gem green 2010 Jaguar XJL. “I knew they was gonna find that bitch ass homo thug not guilty!”

Seated next to Trevon, LaToria aka Kandi settled back into the black leather seat with her arms crossed. “Swagga ain't worth the stress,” she muttered, tight-lipped with a frown.

“I know,” Trevon replied, staring at the courthouse up the busy street. “I just can't get over what he did to you . . . or what he did to us!” he added, punching a tight fist into his right palm.

LaToria closed her eyes for a moment. “We got to move on from this.”

“It ain't easy,” Trevon said, slumping back into the seat.

She turned her head, looking into his eyes. “You got too much to lose. Ain't trying to raise this baby by myself, Trevon.”

“I wouldn't dare risk my freedom for that bitch ass coward!”

“Well, we both need to move past this and focus on us and our baby.” She laid a hand on his knee. “Ain't trying to lose you.”

Trevon looked at her belly. In the month of June, she would bare his firstborn, and it was a moment that he was looking forward to. “What we gonna do about this film?” he asked.

LaToria shrugged. “I don't think anyone will really care about Swagga fucking that tranny. With our luck, he'll find some way to make it blow up in our faces. Besides, with Chyna dead, I don't see nobody giving a damn, and that's just how I feel.”

Those words fell hard on Trevon. In truth, he had too much at stake to focus on any type of revenge toward Swagga. Money had proven stronger than truth, and it had set Swagga free. Not guilty was the verdict of the kidnapping charge against Swagga. His high-powered team of attorneys argued heavily that no one could firmly prove that Swagga had actually kidnapped LaToria and taken her aboard his yacht. They turned their focus on Swagga's former bodyguard, Yaffa.

Trevon had to accept the reality and remember the chance he was being given behind killing Yaffa in that warehouse. Even still, he was having trouble letting shit ride behind his beef with LaToria's ex. As she had just mentioned, they were still in possession of the two video clips of Swagga and Chyna. LaToria was leaning toward the idea of moving up to Atlanta with Trevon, leaving Swagga and the stress and past behind. Exposing Swagga's homo tastes would only bring drama back into their lives.

“I wanna go home,” LaToria said, gazing out the tinted window at a black couple sitting at a bus stop. Both were in their own world, chatting away on a cell phone.

“You ain't going to Amatory with me?”

“Nah.” She shook her head. “I'm tired, and plus my feet are hurting.”

“Told you not to wear them heels so—”

“Look,” she interrupted. “He's coming out!”

Trevon sat up the moment Swagga made his exit from the building. A roar of cheers went up from the mass of spectators that awaited Swagga's appearance. Trevon's tight jaws flexed at the sight of Swagga standing on the top step with his skinny arms raised joyously in the air. He was surrounded by his legal team and ten-deep entourage. The bright sun danced off the pricey diamonds that filled Swagga's mouth.

Trevon took it all in with silence. He could see Swagga taking a pose on the steps in front of a group of photographers while the crowd worked itself into a frenzy.

LaToria turned her head, forcing herself to let go of her anger. All that mattered in her life was the baby and loving Trevon.

Trevon pulled the XJL from the curb with the tinted windows lowered two inches. He didn't speak until he reached the first stoplight on Biscayne Boulevard.

“You thought about what we spoke on last night?”

LaToria sighed. “Don't make a big deal of it, Trevon. You signed the contract, and it's business, so I'm okay with it.”

Trevon glanced at her, trying to understand how she was so at ease with him going forward with his contract with Amatory Erotic Films. He was willing to opt out of the contract for the strength of his relationship with her. LaToria assured him that she wouldn't trip. She told him she saw no wrong with him doing five more films.

“You gonna be okay?” he asked, reaching for her hand.

She nodded. “I just need to lie down, that's all.”

When the light turned green, he drove the sleek sedan past a Burger King on his left. Looking ahead, he switched lanes while pushing his thoughts to the bright side of his life. His biggest joy was his freedom. He knew he had a rare chance to live the life he did by doing adult porn. How many ex-cons could boast of the life he had? Damn few! Trevon refused to risk his freedom again. Killing Yaffa last year was done in a rushed rage. But even now he held no regret, nor a touch of remorse. He had killed for a woman he was deeply in love with.

Reaching Coconut Grove, he parked his Jag behind LaToria's brand new soft-top diamond black Aston Martin DBS. After walking her inside, he glanced out into the backyard to check on his bullmastiff, Rex. He lay on his side in the shade, asleep. Kissing LaToria on the cheek and giving her plump ass a squeeze, he turned to head for the door.

“Trevon.” LaToria stood in the living room with an odd, troubled look.

“Yeah, what's up?” He turned, standing in the door.

She just stood there, unable to speak what was on her mind.

“Baby, you sure you're okay with me—”

“I'm fine,” she said in a rush. “Just bring me something to eat on your way back home.”

“Pizza or chicken?” he asked, grinning.

She forced a smile. “Both,” she replied. “I'm eating for two, remember.” Trevon paused at the door with an inkling that Latoya was lying through her teeth. Though she wore a high voltage smile, her eyes told him differently. Not wanting to stress her out, he kept his view to himself.

***

Twenty minutes later, Trevon was seated in front of Janelle's office desk inhaling her light peach-scented body spray.

“I heard the news about Swagga,” she said after Trevon was comfortable in the chair.

“Yeah, LaToria didn't take it too well.”

“I'm not surprised about that.”

Trevon removed his smartphone from his pocket to make sure the ringer was off. “Sorry ‘bout that,” he said, keeping his eyes above her breasts. The purple satin blouse clung tight against her perky twins. She was dressed professionally in a pantsuit that did little to cover her natural sex appeal. He managed to avoid any lustful looks at her.

“Well,” she said, leaning back in her chair. “Are you ready to discuss your future here with Amatory?”

“It's why I'm here.”

“So, what have you decided?”

Trevon wanted to make the right choice. “I'll finish out my contract and do the rest of the films.”

“I assume you and Kandi have discussed this at some length?”

“Yeah, but mainly I was the one stressing it. She said it won't bother her for me to continue to do porn without her.”

Janelle nodded at the wall to Trevon's left. “Don't take this the wrong way, but Kandi knows how to draw the line between her emotions and business.”

Trevon looked at the cover art posters of the DVDs that were produced by Amatory. “She told me that herself. But being honest, I told her I couldn't stand to watch her be with another man. So you know I'm happy about you allowing her to opt out of her contract.”

“I already knew that, Trevon. I won't force you to do the films. I'm really happy for you and Kandi, but at the same time, I don't want to leave money on the table. By you doing the last five films, I promise you that you'll be set financially.”

“I don't doubt that,” he said, thinking of the money still being made off the fast-selling DVD he made with LaToria. With each DVD sold, he earned $1.80. Trevon's future looked straight if his next five DVDs could sell like the first. Last week, Janelle had sent him and LaToria an e-mail to inform them of the success of their DVD ranking number one in sales. In less than four months, the DVD had reached a number of 375,000 copies sold! He was looking forward to his first royalty check.

“Have you read the latest reviews on your DVD?” she asked.

“Nah, been too busy with going to the gym and running errands for LaToria. Umm, did someone post something bad?”

“Nope. Far from it.” She smiled. “Each day your female fan base is growing. Anyway, a fan posted a review saying how she loved the film and how much she envied Kandi. She gave the DVD five stars and asked if there would be more DVDs with you in it.”

Trevon, in all truth, tried to stay grounded and humble. From ex-con to porn star was not an everyday switch. “Umm, I guess we gonna grant her request, huh?”

“Most surely!” Janelle replied, motivated.

Trevon adjusted his thoughts to focus on his actions as just business. He was sure of his love for LaToria. It was an issue he didn't doubt nor question. “When do we start filming?” he asked.

“Later next month.” She reached for her laptop. “Here, I want you to look at something.”

Trevon found himself briefly dwelling on whom he would be making his next film with. His thoughts were broken when Janelle turned the screen of the laptop in his direction.

“This is Chelsea Kelliebrew. I signed her last month to a four-film deal right before the Christmas holiday, and I'd like her debut film to be with you.”

“She looks young.” He observed.

“She's only twenty-two, and she's a very nice girl. Being with her will cover your venture into interracial films.”

“She a true blonde?”

“Yep. She's five-foot-six and a former swimsuit model. She looks so much like Lindsay Lohan.”

He nodded in agreement. “What will the theme of the film be?”

“It's still up in the air right now. But I did inform my screenwriters that I want it to be outdoors. The bedroom scenes are becoming the norm,” she explained. “Also, I want you to do an anal scene with her. Are you okay with that?”

Trevon sat up, rubbing a hand down his face. His conscience was tearing at him. Even if it was just
business
, he felt wrong to be casually making plans to fuck another female. He looked at the image of Chelsea modeling a two-piece yellow string bikini. There was no need to deny how sexy she was, even for a white girl. “I'll do it,” he finally said, after thinking on it.

Janelle lifted her arched eyebrows. “I'm not getting the vibe that you're
sure
about doing this.”

“Uh, have you told her about me yet?”

“A little. By now she has viewed your video with Kandi. Trust me. If you want to be a top-seller, you have to do interracial films. Though it's not my favorite.” She shrugged. “It's business and business is money.”

“I don't doubt you one bit. It just feels like I'm doing LaToria wrong,” he admitted. “I guess I need to stop mixing my work with my private life.”

“Just do what's in your heart, Trevon. If you need some time to rethink—”

“Nah, I'm good.” He sighed heavily, allowing his shoulders to slump. “I said I'll stick to the contract, and that's what I'm gonna do.”

Janelle hoped his actions would match his words. “And I won't doubt that, Trevon.”

“So, when will I meet her?” He nodded at the picture of Chelsea.

“Sometime next week. She's moving down from Orlando and should be settled in her new spot soon.”

“Ai'ight. So what's the deal with the other films?”

“I'd like to have you doing a different class of subject with each film. With Chelsea, you'll be doing interracial like I said, so the other films will differ.”

“How?”

“Well, I'd like you to do a film with a plus-size female and one with an older woman. Also, I think a threesome is a good idea as well. I have a few more ideas, but the interracial film with Chelsea is a must do. For the record, interracial films are always top sellers.”

Trevon turned his attention back to the picture of Chelsea.

“She looks even better in person,” Janelle commented. “And FYI, she has never been in front of a camera, so this time you'll be the teacher.”

“Hell, I'm still learning the ropes myself.” Trevon leaned back in the chair. “Oh! What does FYI mean?”

Janelle smirked. It had slipped her mind that Trevon was still a newbie when it came to today's terms. “It means for your information.”

“I'll have to remember that.” He grinned.

Janelle turned the laptop off and then fingered a loose tress of raven black hair over her shoulder. “So how's life really treating you?”

Trevon shifted in the chair. “This drama with Swagga gettin' off free has me pissed! I know I did my dirt as well behind what went down in that warehouse. But still, Swagga tried to burn LaToria alive, and I just have to stand by and watch this nigga ease off the hook.”

“Would you feel better if he went to prison?”

Trevon balled up his hands. “I can't ever wish prison on anyone. Not after doing all that time I did.”

“You can't let this problem get the best of you. Like you just pointed out, you yourself were lucky with not being charged with killing Swagga's bodyguard. Just move on, Trevon. Let it go. Focus on your future with LaToria and the baby.”

“I swear I'm trying,” he said, being honest with himself.

“Try harder. Do it for yourself, Trevon.”

He nodded.

After a few exchanged words about the new film, the meeting came to an end. It was official. Trevon would continue his career in the adult film industry with Amatory Erotic Films.

“Is there anything else that's troubling you that you'd like to talk about?” she pressed.
