And when he woke up to the bright sunshine of an early March morning, Simon Farber went downstairs, wincing as his arthritis complained, and stepped out on his front porch, surprised to find the snow melting and a warm breeze heating the air.

“A good day to go out,” he murmured.

Stepping carefully down onto the sidewalk, he began to whistle. His young neighbor, Dan Preston, called out, “Good to see you about, Mr. Farber! What’s up?”

“Oh, just enjoying the day,” he replied. “They go so fast, you see. And then, before you know it, it’s supper-time.”

“My favorite meal!” Preston exclaimed.

“Mine, too. It’s nice to know it’s always there, waiting for us. But in the meantime… what a beautiful day for a walk.”

Simon Farber tipped his hat. Whistling again, he continued on down the street.
