Bob started moving again, keeping a good,
hidden distance away from them. The women turned down an alleyway,
following Raine, who seemed to be the only one who knew where
anything was. The women continued to talk as they walked through
the alleyway. When they got far enough ahead, he entered it as
well. His heartbeat quickened as a flood of panic rushed through
him. It was a sensation he couldn’t explain, but he didn’t really
need to at the moment. As he made his way further into the alley,
he heard grunts and groans.

The sounds of fighting.

He rushed forward until the fight came into
view. The women were surrounded, and they were each fighting
any…well, creatures—he didn’t know what the fuck they were—that got
too close. Rage overtook the panic that had taken residence in his
body. Raine was in danger.

And that was completely
un-fucking-acceptable.

Without another thought he surged forward,
letting his instincts take over. One. Two. Three of those bastards
were down. The quick work of his hands twisting their necks was
thanks to that. He neared the females who were completely engrossed
in their own fights, but his main concern was for the devastating
Raine. She was a vision, fighting against her enemies, besting any
that came her way before she focused on a new opponent.

Bob reached for another one of those bastards
when lightning struck in the alley. He was momentarily stunned at
the sudden—and too close, he might add—bolts that somehow struck
down all around them. It was only after a few seconds that he
realized that each bolt came in time with a strike from one of the
women. Shaking out his thoughts of the impossible, he turned toward
one of the ugly bastards once more. It paused, staring at him as if
they knew each other, and Bob used its distraction to lunge forward
and punch it in the jaw. Its head twisted to the side before
turning to face him again. The evil smile and laugh that greeted
him was eerie as all get-out. One word came to mind.

Demon.

Game. Fucking. On.

The demon struck out, its serrated hands
narrowly missing Bob’s face. The demon might be fast, but he
couldn’t outdo Bob’s speed. Again and again the demon struck, each
time missing any sort of connection. Bob took charge and lunged for
the demon, his hands finding purchase around the demon’s head. A
quick twist and the demon fell to the ground. He watched the body
for only a few seconds before focusing on the women.

There were two demons on Raine now, and she
fought diligently against both of them. Her friends were still
distracted with their own fights, so Bob rushed forward and tackled
one of her attackers to the ground. All around, lightning continued
to strike. Punch. Grunt. Punch. Grunt. Punch. Bones
cracked.

That was what he needed.

The demon wailed, holding its nose that was
now spewing blood. Bob gripped its head and, pulling upward,
separated it from its body. He dropped it to the ground and stood
to his feet. He no longer saw or heard lightning strike in their
tiny alley. He no longer heard the sounds of battle.

Turning slowly, he faced the women who were
now staring at him. His gaze clashed with Raine’s, and the icy blue
of her eyes immediately mesmerized him. He wasn’t sure how long
they stared at each other, and honestly, he didn’t care. Emotions
that he couldn’t explain flooded through him as he stared at the
most exquisite woman he’d ever seen. His heart pounded wildly, and
something deep inside both purred and roared at the sight of
her.

Her lips parted as she sucked in a breath. She
seemed every bit as enthralled by him as he was by her. His gaze
riveted to those pink lips as she closed them and then parted them
once more. She swallowed, and her expression changed to one of pain
and longing. Finally she spoke. It was whispered, but the emotion
behind it was staggering.

“Ferox.”
