She licked her lips. “You’re bringing me pleasure right now, BD. Trust me.”
When they’d come back to the old mansion, after Michelle and the others had welcomed them home, Mambo Toussaint sobbing with relief, they had faded into the woodwork. Food had been set outside their bedroom door, and clean clothes, but other than that, they were left alone.
The last few days had been heaven.
They’d talked until their voices were hoarse. About their memories of the life they’d lived before, about all they’d been through since they were parted. There were some things Bethany didn’t want to know. As far as she was concerned, the Love Doctor of the Big Easy had closed his practice to take care of a single patient. Her.
They’d opened the locket together, and the small paintings inside had given her a start. “But Isabel was so sought after, everyone thought she was so beautiful.”
BD had winked. “She was. She is.”
The image of Isabel in the locket, opposite the image of Marcel, looked exactly like Bethany. A little younger, her Spanish and French heritage showing in her light olive skin tone, but other than that, they were identical. Same lips, same eyes. She’d always thought herself plain.
“If I’ve learned anything from all the years I was waiting for you, it is that people change. Their ideas about the world, about each other, about beauty. But some things never do. You are beautiful, Bethany. You are timeless.”
He remembered everything now, the final gift the Loa had given him, but he still wasn’t comfortable being called Marcel. “It was another life. I was a different man. I think I’ll be BD for a while. Until I find something better.”
She could still see Marcel inside him. The way he looked at her, his desire to take care of her. But there was a confidence, a soul-deep strength that emanated from him that was all Bone Daddy. And nearly irresistible.
He smiled. “Come on, love. Don’t make me beg.”
“As if you would,” she huffed, climbing on top of him and leaning forward to place a soft, teasing kiss on his lips.
“Oh I would, Blue Eyes. For you. Only for you.”
She sat up, her fingers tracing the scar that curved around his side and stomach, a reminder of the pain-filled past. He’d gotten this trying to save her brother, Manuel. “Do you think Emmanuel is all right?”
“I’ve told you, baby. Emmanuel is better than fine. He’s no longer trapped in the past, trapped in his childhood. No longer a ghost. And who knows, maybe he’ll get another chance at life as well.”
“I read a book about reincarnation once. It was fascinating. They said there are these things called soul groups and you all keep coming back together, learning life les—”
“Bethany.” His voice was stern.
“Yes, BD?”
“You have a sex slave tied to your bed, naked and hard for you. Are you sure you want to talk about books right now?”
He did look a little pained. She could feel his erection hot against her, and all at once, she didn’t think books were all that interesting. Overrated, really. Especially when compared against the real thing.
