Itet, who interpreted my dreams so superbly, gave me her divine blessing. I heard the rattle of a
sistrum
, and knew my teacher Maya had arrived, and was dancing round and round the room with joy in her heart, just as she had done in the garden of my childhood home.

I remembered the love of Lord Harenhab, and felt the affection of the elder Ramesses, who stood by me when my husband would have banished me from the palace. Finally, I caught the scent of blue lotus, and knew Sety had come to me as well.

I picked up from the table the stone scarab Pentu had given me so many years before, and read the inscription that always provided me with great solace.

Happiness for the soul lies not in the external worlds, for they will vanish. To find true happiness, look to the eternal within yourself.

I wiped a tear from my eye with a fingertip, looked inward, and knew bliss.

“All is divine perfection,” I whispered. “All is as it should be.”
