Upstairs

“What’s up?” I asked Kali coming out of the basement, locking the door from the inside before closing it.
“What you got going on down there?”
Kali had been here ever since the day he said he didn’t want anything to do with me in the kitchen. He would eat up all of the food and disappear upstairs. Every now and again I’d come home and see him looking out of the window but he never left. I knew he was afraid of something and couldn’t wait for him to leave, especially since he made it clear we would not have a relationship. I ain’t want him going downstairs finding Harmony tied up even though the basement door was locked whenever I left and I had the only key.
“Why, nigga?” I said getting in his face. “You said you not my pops, so you ain’t got the right to be questioning me.”
Kali grinned a little and said, “If you knew the nigga I was…I mean
really
knew me, you wouldn’t be talking sideways.”
“I don’t know about all that, but what you want with me?”
“For starters, where the fuck is Harmony?”
“She ain’t here. She gonna be back in a few days I think.” I said taking my cap off to scratch my head before putting it back on.
“Well grab your house keys, I need you to roll somewhere with me right quick.”
“For what?”
“You gonna make me ask you again?”
Silence.
“Give me a sec. I gotta go tell me friends.”

JACE’S GOONS
FT. WASHINGTON, MARYLAND

Sitting in a car a few blocks down from the front of Concord Manor’s entrance sat Jace’s goons ready to attack Kali. Kali had just hopped into a truck with Mad and they peeped that Vaughn was the driver. They staked out the house for days and he never came out. Jace figured he knew they were waiting to murder him and suggested that all of his men with the exception of the one car leave the premises. His plan worked because Kali thought the coast was clear but he didn’t use his full vision.

The only reason they didn’t barge in the house and take him alive the night he went in was because of Madjesty, they saw her from the window. Had it not been for his baby girl Jayden, he probably would’ve taken his chances anyway, even if it meant killing Mad. He took Kali’s threat on his life seriously, and had all intentions of laying him down one way or another. But he couldn’t think about himself anymore because he had a daughter now and he didn’t want to smudge their relationship already by killing her one and only sibling. So he played it cool and he waited and finally the time to take blood had come.

“Oh shit, Paco! They coming out now!” Kreshon said, slumping down in the passenger seat. “Call Jace.”
Paco pulled off slowly behind Vaughn’s truck careful to keep his distance as he made the call. “Hello.”
“I got the nigga in my sights right now, Jace. All you gotta do is give the word.” Paco said as Kreshon loaded his weapon. Both men kept their eyes on the truck.
“Good! He by himself right?”
“Naw, he got Vaughn and some young nigga with him.”
“A young nigga?” Jace said confused. “Well fuck it, kill all three of them.”
“I’m on it!”
Paco was just about to pull up on the side of the truck and fire into it when Jace called back.
“Hold up, you said a young nigga?”
“Yeah.” Paco said. “Why you ask?”
“You sure it ain’t a girl? A young girl?”
“Naw, he look like he about fifteen or something. It’s definitely a dude though.”
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” Jace yelled into the phone.
“What you want me to do?” Paco asked, confused at his response.
“Nothing. Don’t do nothing.”
“What? Why?”
“That ain’t no young dude, that’s Harmony’s other daughter. And she the only reason we ain’t run up in that bitch and take that nigga out.”
Paco squinted and said, “You sure? The nigga came out wearing a fitted hat and everything. It looked like a dude to me, cuz.”
“I’m sure it ain’t no dude. Did he have on a New York Yankees baseball cap?”
“Yeah.”
“Then that’s Harmony’s kid and my daughter’s sister. Leave the nigga alone right now but keep your sights on him. The moment you catch his ass slipping, blow the back of his head off, but don’t hurt the girl.”
“Got it boss!”
