I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. "You're not going back to Fort Worth?"
He straightened, removing his hands as if he knew I couldn't think
straight with the heat from his palms searing through to my skin.
"Nothing for me in Fort Worth."
"And here?"
"I've discovered some talents I didn't know I had," he said.
"Wayne's Way was a setup for the undercover assignment, but I enjoyed the work. Thought I might try it full-time. What do you think?"
"You're good enough to make a living as an organizer. I think it's a
fine idea, so long as I don't have to worry about you underbidding
jobs, stealing them from me."
He shook his head. "Never. I'd have to be on my last dollar, desperate for grocery money."
I smiled. "In that case, I need to help you get off to a good start. If
you promise to behave yourself, you can park your boots in my
guest room tonight for free."
