“Who are you and where are we?” Feeling disoriented, she
should have paid more attention to how far they traveled and in what direction.
Instead, her mind had been on satisfying her baser needs.

“I’m not important.” He gazed down the hill and said, “We’re
in The Valley of Elah and the angel down there is why I brought you here.”
Snapping his fingers, he snatched her beautiful black shirt with the glittering
silver threads from midair and handed it to her. “Never lose this again. Your
sister would be very disappointed.” He reached out and traced a line down her
cheek. “Listen to his prayer and you will understand.”

Morta was sure she hadn’t blinked or missed a thing, yet
before her stood the enormous bird again. It was taller than her and twice as
broad across the chest. Bright red, vivid yellow and purple plumage glowed as
the wings flapped and lifted it into the air effortlessly.

You can thank me another time.
The animal dissolved
into a thousand particles of colored light and blew away on a strong breeze.

Silence surrounded her for a moment. Then she remembered the
angel below. Whispered words reached her and she spun to look down the
embankment at the man who knelt beside a pristine lake.

Uriel.

The last angel on Earth she cared to see. Sharp pains
stabbed her chest, bringing her to her knees. A strong breeze lifted her white
hair and carried his words to her.

“God saves not with sword and spear, for the battle is His.
God loves you, God forgives you and I pray to be absolved of all my sins.”

Morta trembled at the words and a stark chill shook her to
the bone. Crouched on the ground, she pushed her arms through the shirt and was
glad the stranger had returned it to her. She pulled the cloth tight around her
body, loving the way the soft material warmed her. Glancing down, she smoothed
one hand over the front of the pretty garment. The silver threads vibrated in
the sunlight, playing tricks with her eyes. It seemed they twined around some
of the black threads and formed a braid.

Letting her head fall to the side, she continued to listen.
He still prayed. She swallowed uncontrollably.

“Forgive me, Father, for taking the life of one of your
children. He was the child of an angel, a child of the Lord, and I beg that you
absolve me of my sins then and now.”

Sucking in air, she hissed in pain as tears flooded her eyes
and streamed down her face at the sorrowful sound of his voice. Love flowed
from every pore in her body. Mort scooted down the hill until she was only a
few feet from the archangel on his knees.

“Uri,” she said softly.

He turned to face her with moisture dotting his cheeks.
“Morta, why are you here?”

“I was brought here. I… I…” There were no words to encompass
what she felt.

“Please leave.”

“No.” She tugged the top tighter around her. “Don’t send me
away.” She didn’t know how or why; Morta only knew she needed to be with him.
Memories washed over her. Their time together, the night he took her to dinner.
The evening he oiled and massaged her aching body and afterward, he tried to
perform her duties.

But he’d never said he loved her, and she didn’t care.

Standing, he shoved his hands in his pockets. “You can’t be
here, we can’t be together.” He stared at her hard with his hair lifting on the
breeze. His dark blue eyes ravished her body
.

This was the man she’d wanted all along. How she ended up in
a bar looking for a stranger was beyond her. She’d worry about that later. She
rose from her position and walked over to him. Mort reached out and placed her
hand on his chest. His heart pounded beneath her palm, and she knew. “I won’t
leave.”

He pulled his hands from his slacks and grasped her
shoulders. “Christ,” he hissed, as he arched away. He studied his hands.
“What—” His gaze drifted from her face and moved down the front of her. His
fingers trembled as they brushed over the shirt she wore. “Where’d you get
this?”

“My shirt? Nony gave it to me before Marmaroth…wait, it was
him! He took me away. He gave me something to drink, a potion to make me forget
you.”

“Your sister gave you this?” He was still stroking her arms
and her chest. Her nipples stood at painful peaks beneath his fingertips. “Do
you know what it is?”

“It was to keep me warm.”

“Morta, she gave you our binding threads. They’re laced
through the shirt.”

Stepping back, she gazed closer at the material. It
wasn’t
the sunlight. She tugged hard and pulled out the thick black and silver strands
that had knitted together to form a braid. The shirt no longer glittered but
the fibers in her hand did. “No, Uri!” she cried. “Marmaroth will make her pay
for this.”

“Baby, you can’t stop it. Nona knew all along we belonged
together. We won’t let him hurt her.”

“What about Samael? He can stop us unless we follow through
with the meshing and I won’t do that. Ever. It would bring harm to my sisters.
Please, you have to understand.”

“Come here, honey.” He pulled her tight into his arms and
held her there.

She gazed up at him and raised her finger to trace the scar
on his face. It was violently red and throbbed beneath her touch. Morta stood
on her tiptoes and stretched up to kiss it. She jumped back when it moved
beneath her mouth. “Uri!”

“What?”

“The scar—it’s disappearing.”

Holding her breath, she watched him raise his hand to touch
it.

“Aww shit.”

Chapter Twelve

Uriel had carried the scar for over a thousand years. The
Father himself had given it to him as a warning—and a reminder. He’d grown used
to it alerting him when Nephilim were out of control. What would he do now? One
thing was for sure. No matter what, he’d do everything in his power to protect
Morta from all of them. He flopped down beside the lake and tried to think. Her
words interrupted his thoughts.

“How did it happen?”

Uri quietly told the tale of how Goliath was really killed.
It had started simply as a game out of boredom between him and Lucifer. He even
made a bet with the devil the boy could win. They each blew on a stone and
mixed them with the other stones David collected and sat back to wait and see
what would happen. It could just as well have been Lucifer’s stone to reach the
giant and who knows what would have happened then.

Since it was the stone Uri had blown on that killed Goliath,
the same stone was drawn down the left side of his face by God, leaving it
disfigured.

Playing with the lives of humans just because he could was
horrible and cruel.

According to Michael what he’d done had almost changed
history. It took quite a lot of work and a long time for the angel general and
others to fix his indiscretion and put things back according to God’s plan. It
was then he was also given the thankless task of keeping the angels’ earthbound
offspring in line. A job he’d come to abhor. Not having the warning signal of
the pulsating scar would now make it much harder to accomplish his duty of
keeping humans safe from the Nephilim.

Shit was going to hit the fan for sure the minute anyone saw
his face. They’d know something had happened.

Hell, this might be the last time he could be with Morta. It
might be the last time he existed in this world without heartache.

Standing, he removed their clothing, picked her up and
carried her into the lake.

“I need you.”

“I want you.”

When he was waist-deep in the water, he placed Mort on her
feet and showered her face with kisses. Uri would never have enough of this
woman. Her scent, the silky feel of her skin beneath his fingertips. He stroked
and caressed every visible inch of her body. Her soft mewls when he tweaked her
nipples drove him mad.

“I don’t want to ever let you go.”

“We have now. Don’t let me go right now.”

Sweeping his hands down the contours of her back until he
reached the rounded globes of her behind set him on fire. Spreading her ass
cheeks, he entered Morta’s tight anal passage with one, then two fingers.

“Yes,” she breathed. Slipping her arms around his neck, she
teased his nubs with her tongue and teeth. Her mouth pressed against his chest
and she pulled the bud hard with her lips.

Uri arched back when she bit down. “Damn, that feels good,
baby.” Her tongue darted out and swept hot, wet circles around the tiny peak.

“Mmm, you taste good.” She continued to suck and lap at his
nipples. First one and then the other.

Blood engorged his cock and it bobbed in the water, bumping
her belly. He didn’t want to enter her. This had to last a long time, maybe
forever.

“Wrap your legs around my waist.” With both hands on her
butt, he hoisted her up until his balls rested against her hot pussy and his
penis was trapped between them.

Holding her like that, Uri continued to sink fingers deep
inside her ass. In and out so very, very slowly. Mort moaned and ground against
him, making him weak at the knees.

He withdrew his fingers and swept them through the cool
water. “If we keep doing this here, we’re both going to drown. I want to look
at you, see all of you.” He whispered as he nibbled on her earlobe. He moved
toward the shore, each step blissfully painful as the tip of his dick rubbed
her stomach. “I can barely stand not being inside you.”

Going down on his knees, he gently rested her on the soft
grass. “Christ, woman, what do you do to me?”

“Uri, take me.”

“No.” His breathing was erratic as he stretched out beside
her. Leaning on one elbow, he drew circles around her areola, savoring the
hardness of the buds each time he brushed against one. “I’m going to take every
minute we have.”

Drawing a line down her stomach, he enjoyed it when she
bowed up.

“Uri!”

“Hmm?”

Lingering for a moment at the blonde dusting of hair gracing
her mound was too much for him. He slipped his hand farther between her legs
which she held slightly apart and Uri flicked her clit with his fingers. Her
womanly scent rose up and wreathed around his head, sending blood looping
through his veins double-time. His erection bobbed back and forth against their
thighs.

“You’re making me wet,” she moaned.

“That’s exactly what I want. Your pussy so fucking wet that
when I mount you, my cock will slide easily inside and fill you up.” He
continued to slip his fingers back and forth through her crease, gathering
moisture.

Her breast rose up and down as she gasped for air each time
he bumped the nubbin hidden in the slick folds. The hand closest to him gripped
and stroked the inside of his leg. When she touched his balls he jerked, sending
his hardness slamming painfully into her hip.

“I’m going to make you come.” He entered her with his middle
finger and kept the tip of his thumb rubbing back and forth over her clit.

Her body plunged up, letting him know he’d found the spot.

“Ooh, there, right there,” she moaned loudly.

“Here?” Uri asked while he continued to push his finger into
her hard and stroked back and forth. His thumb never left her pearl. He moved
his hand faster and faster. Bringing her pleasure was all that mattered.

“Don’t stop,” Mort wheezed as she lifted and gyrated her
hips. “More. Faster.”

“Like this.” His hand rammed into her canal again and again,
sending his finger as deep as it would go until her thighs clenched and trapped
his wrist in a viselike grip.

Her head went back and the pure sound of pleasure ripped
from her throat on a guttural cry that shattered the silence in the valley.
“Unnhh…yes, I’m coming, Uri.”

“Give it to me, fill my hand.” And she did. Warm cum slid
past his fingers into his palm. “All of it, Morta, give me everything you are.”

Her body collapsed back onto the ground and he rose to his
knees. Parting her legs gently, he twisted his body until he was wedged between
her thighs. Leaning over her, he captured a puckered nipple in his mouth and
sucked until she squirmed against him. He treated the other bud with the same
delight until he couldn’t take any more.

Leaving her nipples, he swept his tongue over her lips and
teased for entrance. When she opened, he slipped into her warmth and let his
tongue touch and taste every dark corner. He bit her lips before he captured
them beneath his in a long, searing kiss.

Still nibbling at her mouth, he murmured, “Raise your legs
for me.” Uri helped by placing his arms under her knees and pulling her toward
him until her pussy was close enough to lick. Mort draped her legs over his
shoulders.

His tongue flicked out and touched her, sending her hips
jutting higher and her hot folds right up to his mouth. Pulling away, he
whispered, “You taste like Heaven.” Uri began to lick and suck, stabbing his
tongue in and out until she rewarded him with another cry and another rush of
cream. “That’s it, honey. Give me everything,” he grunted.

A drop of pre-cum slid from his erection onto his thigh. He
couldn’t wait to be buried inside her, take her over the edge once more.

“Now I’m going to take you.” He rested her on the grass but
kept her legs spread wide. His hips sank down until his cock brushed against
her warm, moist vaginal lips. He hissed in pleasure, “Mort, you’ll always be
mine.”

Uri slowly nudged his dick through the entrance to her
channel, stopping when the head was just inside. He held it there savoring the
heat and tightness of her pussy. He could stay like this forever.

“Uriel,” she cried out as she tried in vain to push against
him. His hands were on her hips and held her still.

“No, baby, please,” he begged, hoping she wouldn’t move.

It was too late.

He pushed deep inside her with one swift stroke and pulled
out. Again and again he plunged his shaft in and out of her canal. Uri filled
her just like he promised. He could feel her stretch to accommodate him and
then the walls of her pussy constricted on his penis, bringing him to the very
edge of coming. His nuts tightened and his body grew tense as he continued to push
in and pull out. Uri’s strokes grew faster, harder as he carried her along in
his wake.

Morta arched into him and keened, “Oooh,” as she came yet
again.

When he couldn’t hold back anymore, he bellowed, “Morta,”
and released a stream of cum deep into her pussy. He collapsed on top of her
with his penis still buried inside her. His face lay in her shoulder as he
nibbled and nipped her there, drawing blood. His tongued laved the wound until
he knew the small prick would be healed. “I’ll always need you,” Uri whispered,
taking her with him when he rolled onto his back. He held her pinned to his
chest and was happy to hide in the curtain of icy blonde hair that feathered
around his face. Sucking in a lungful of air, he relaxed and let his eyes
close. He didn’t want this to end, but there was something he had to tell her
and he had to do it now. “Morta?”

“Hmm. Please don’t ask me to move,” she murmured above him.

“I’d like to keep you like this forever. Maybe I can.”

She pushed up and looked him square in the eye. “I can’t, I
won’t do that, Uri. I will not jeopardize my sisters by meshing with you. Can’t
we be happy with what we have?”

“The problem is…” His voice trailed off and he couldn’t look
at her.

“Shit, no, Uri. Tell me you didn’t.” Her eyes grew big as saucers.
“That’s what happened the last time we made love? No! Oh. God. No. You did it,
didn’t you?” Morta flashed up and dressed in the blink of an eye. “You bastard,
I trusted you.”

Before he could say a single word, she was gone.

Uriel didn’t move until the sun slid low in the blue sky,
casting shadows across the meadow as it slipped behind the treetops. He sat up
and sighed. The dull ache had settled back in his chest and out of habit he ran
his finger along the side of his face. The scar he’d taken solace in for so
long was gone. Uri hadn’t realized until now how comforting it had become to
feel it there. From the corner of his eye, a glint of light in the brush caught
his attention. He reached in to pick up whatever it was.

A smile tugged at his lips and his heart became lighter.

Uri held in his hand the ties that bound him and Morta
together.

* * * * *

“Why, Nona? You’ve risked our lives.” Morta paced the length
of the room and back. Nervously, her fingers pushed at her hair.

“Sister, calm down. I only spin what the Father allows. I
don’t have the power to create a life’s bond on my own.” The spinning wheel sat
quietly while she bit on the tip of her nail. “I truly believed it would only
serve to keep you warm.”

A sharp, wind buffeted the door, flinging it open. The thick
wood creaked as it banged against the wall with a thud. Decima floated into the
room, her feet never touching the floor. “Can’t I leave the two of you alone
for a single minute?” She glared coldly at Nona. “What were you thinking?”

“For goodness’ sake, it’s not that bad.”

Sarcasm dripped from Decima’s lips. “No, it’s not so bad.
Let’s bind every archangel in Heaven to a Fate or a human. Gee, what’s the
worst that could happen?” She jerked around to face Mort. “Maybe Hell will
freeze over!”

Pinpoints of fiery light danced around the walls. Mort’s
hand rose automatically to shield her eyes. Decima hadn’t been this pissed in a
long, long time.

“First we need to calm down.” Morta stopped pacing and
flounced into a nearby chair. “If we work together, we can keep this between
us.”

“Oh for
Chrissakes
, do you
really think Uriel will leave it alone?” The light died from her sister’s eyes.
“He’s been hell bent on having you since the day he first laid eyes on you,
Morta. Uri is unstable, causes trouble everywhere he goes and he’s no longer
favored by the Father.”

Decima’s words hit her like a ton of bricks. Air whooshed
from her lungs, forming ice shards on the windowpanes. Uri would never let her
go—and Mort didn’t want to be free of him. “I don’t want him to let me go.”

Lightning bolts blazed from the sky and slammed into the
lawn outside the window, thunder boomed above them, shaking the foundation of
their home, the vase beside Mort fell to the floor and shattered into a million
pieces sending a spray of water around her feet. She bent to pick up the purple
flowers. Violets.

“Dec, Nony…I’m so sorry. I—” Her body tensed in the chair.
She peered at her hand and watched the blossoms become transparent. Uri’s
beautiful homage to her was gone. Her body writhed painfully in the chair and
she was sucked once again into blackness. When she opened her eyes, she stood
before Michael, and Morta didn’t have to look around to know Ramiel and
Marmaroth sat at her back. At least the air brushing past the curtains of the
open window warmed her.

“Give me the ties.” The angel general’s words were firm and
brooked no argument.

“I don’t have them.” Blinking, she let her mind sweep over
every minute she’d spent with Uri. Where were they?

Tell them I have them.

Uri, don’t.

She stood stock-still trapped in a room with three of the
strongest archangels in Heaven. Could they read her mind?

No, focus only on me. They can’t harm us, baby. Trust me,
Morta.

Why should I? You lied to me.
