“What?  Sorry I shouldn’t have...” he started.

“No, it’s not that…your parents are home”

“Oh, so? They see this all the…..oh…yep…right, our parents.”

Victoria

Wow!  My legs felt like jello.  No guy had ever had this effect on me, and especially not someone like him.  Could I really trust him though?  I felt like I did with my entire heart but I didn’t want to be naïve.  I had watched Mom fall into that trap with manipulative men, one too many times.

I hadn’t thought much about Mom since she went away, mostly because I tried desperately not to, but now I felt so vulnerable and all I wanted was my mom.  Not the one that was passed out on the couch with pills and alcohol lying next to her, but the caring and loving one that held me and stroked my hair when I cried.  Now they were all just memories.  I wanted to cry.  I needed to cry.  I walked to the bathroom, started the shower and sat down letting the water join my tears in a race to the drain beneath me.  I let myself break and my whole body shook from the pain.  It was so intense and I felt like I no longer could live without her.

There was a soft knock at the door and I ignored it.  Jake’s voice travelled through as he knocked louder.

“Victoria, are you okay in there?”

I guess the water hadn’t drowned out my cries.  I tried to stifle my sobs and stay quiet so he would go away.  The door slowly opened and Jake came in with his eyes squeezed shut and one hand out trying to feel his way around.

“I’m not looking, I promise.  I just need to know you’re okay.”

“I’m fine.” I managed through sobs.

“Oh Victoria you’re not, you’re crying.”  Out of worry Jake had opened his eyes and opened the shower door leaning down towards me.  Then realising what he’d done, quickly closed his eyes again apologising profusely.

I stretched out my hand and pulled him down next to me.  I touched his face and waited for him to realise I wanted him to open his eyes.  He looked at me like he was going to cry.

“What happened? Are you hurt? Was it me?”

“Can you just hold me for a minute, Jake?”

He looked at me hesitantly, waiting to make sure it was okay, and then immersed himself under the water, closing the screen door behind him.  He put one of his muscular arms under my legs and the other around my back, and with such ease, swiftly lifted me up, slid underneath me and placed me on his lap.

“It’s okay Victoria, it’s okay.”  He whispered to me, held me, and didn’t ask me to explain.

I felt safe once again and like everything really would be okay.  We sat there like that for a while just letting the water run over us.  I had finally stopped crying.  I looked around at him and realised he still had his clothes on.  I grabbed the bottom of his t-shirt and slowly started lifting it up.  He looked at me in awe and raised his arms allowing me to pull his top off completely.  I pulled him up and we stood in front of each other.  I pressed him against the shower wall and kept my eyes on his as I moved my hands inside the rim of his pants.  I could see him noticeably getting excited but he placed his hands on mine to stop me.

“You don’t need to do this Victoria.  You’re upset and I just want to be here for you. We don’t have to…”

I placed my finger over his lips ushering him to stop.

“I want to.”  I said confidently and he slowly relieved his hand from mine. I continued unwrapping his perfect body.

We were naked staring at each other, our bodies pressed against each other, our lips brushing over each other’s, teasingly.  I wanted him, I wanted to feel him kiss me and touch my body and want me.  I closed my eyes and pushed my lips hard against his.  He pushed his tongue into my mouth finding mine again and we kissed intensely.  It was amazing.  I ran my hands over his chest; his muscular physique under my touch, and then down to his penis.  I could feel myself getting aroused as I felt his hardness.  He ran his fingers through my hair and quickly span me around so my back was now against the wall and he was pressing his weight against me.  I left his lips and lowered them to his ear, sucking on his lobe.  I teased him brushing my lips lightly down his neck, seducing him with my breath and my touch.  I gently tugged at his hair and with the strength of one arm he lifted me to sit on his hips.  And that was it, we were lost in each other.  He entered me slowly and I felt my desire heighten.  He looked into my eyes to make sure I was okay and I nodded.  He moved me up and down, clasping my butt in his hands and he moved me faster and faster.  We were both moaning and I started to shudder.

“Hold on Victoria.” He whispered.

I squeezed my legs tighter around him trying not to release until he wanted me to.  He moved one of his hands between us and started caressing between my legs while he continued to move me.  Wow!  He was amazing.  I couldn’t hold on.  I screamed in pleasure and he slammed me against the wall letting out a loud groan.  He had reached it too.  He started kissing my neck slowly and lowered us to the ground.

“I think I love you missy.”

“I know I love you, Jake.”

Victoria

Weeks went by and Jake and I got closer.  Tanya had no idea what was going on as she tried desperately to hang herself all over Jake and she kept coming up with rejection.  The other girls were shocked too, I could see it in their faces how confused they were; if Jake wasn’t seeing any of them, or Tanya, what the hell was he doing?  Rumours were going around that he either had a girlfriend out of school or he was gay.  I personally loved the gay one and it was very difficult not to tease him every chance I got.  It was fun sneaking around at school and at home.  It felt dangerous, it was exciting.  I hated it sometimes though, and I’d even tried to cool things off between us a couple of times, but it never worked for long.  He would just look at me with those eyes and I’d fall right back in love with a guy I knew I would never have a future with.

Jake

As I reached the top of the stairs I could hear muffled voices at the door.  Victoria must have heard them too as she was already half way down.  Dad was at the door speaking angrily to someone and Mom was standing a bit further away keeping an eye on what was happening.

“Mom.”

She turned and looked in our direction with shock.  She wasn’t looking at me though, she was looking straight at Victoria.  She immediately headed towards us.

“Mom, what’s going on?”

“You both need to go upstairs, please.” She looked worried and looked directly in my eyes with a stern look that I knew meant ‘don’t question me.’  We both understood and turned to head back upstairs but the sudden bang of the door flying open along with my dad shouting quickly caught our attention.  Victoria stopped and just stared and the woman that had just burst into our house.  Something clicked in my head and I knew who this woman was.  She looked like Victoria but an older version.  It was Victoria’s mom and by the look on everyone’s faces, I was right.  Oh shit.

“Mom?” Victoria spluttered out as she ran towards her crying.

“Victoria honey, I’ve come to take you home.  I’m so sorry this was all a big mistake.”

“I thought you were dead.  Why didn’t you come home?  Are you okay?”

Tears were running down both of their cheeks and they continuously hugged after every sentence.  I looked at Mom and Dad.  Dad looked angry and Mom looked really worried, I was a mix of both. Dad was the first one to interrupt the reunion.

“Victoria, Jennifer, we need to sit down and talk.  You can’t just come barging into our house like this.  Did you think how this would affect our daughter?” he tried to move everyone to the couches but they wouldn’t budge.

“She’s my daughter David.  I made a mistake but I’m taking her home now.”

“What do you mean you made a mistake, Mom?”

Shit, this was going to be bad.

“Victoria, please come and sit down so we can explain.”  Dad tried to edge Victoria over to the lounge again but Victoria was visibly confused and she shrugged him away as she also distanced herself from her mom.  My heart was breaking for her but all I could do was watch.

“We?  What do you mean?  What is going on?  I’m not going anywhere until I know what is happening.” Victoria was crying and she looked like she knew she had just been betrayed by everyone.

“Victoria” Dad started to say but Victoria’s mom cut in.

“She’s my daughter, I’ll explain what you did.”

“What I did?  I took Victoria in so she could have a better life instead of living with a drug addict.”  Oh no, I think dad’s temper had crossed the line.  Victoria looked shocked.

“Well, you’re about seventeen years too late David.”  Victoria’s mom hissed at him. Dad was about to retaliate but my mom grabbed his arm and gave him one of those warning looks.

“Let’s give Victoria and Jennifer time to talk.”  She suggested.

“They can talk but I’m not going anywhere.” Dad stated firmly.

“Thank you,” Jennifer said to my mom and went to walk Victoria over to sit down.  Victoria hesitated.  She seemed so lost and I just wanted to pick her up and take her away where it could just be me and her and I could make all her pain go away.

“Victoria darling, please.” Victoria took a deep breath and slowly followed her mom over to the couch and sat down.  Dad sat across from them with my mom and I moved towards the stools around the kitchen bench. Part of me felt like I didn’t really have any business being there so I wanted to keep my distance but I knew Victoria needed me and that meant I wasn’t letting her out of my sight.

Half an hour later Jennifer and Dad had covered the entire story to Victoria’s devastated face.  Dad had found out last week that they had found Victoria’s mom, but due to her drug and alcohol intoxicated state, it was decided that she was not fit to look after Victoria and she would stay with us until she got help.  The thing is though, Dad didn’t tell Victoria, and after I overheard Mom and Dad talking about it, I didn’t tell Victoria either.

“Why wouldn’t you tell me?”  Victoria shouted at Dad. “I have a right to know, this is my life…”  She looked up at me.  Shit!

“Did you know about this too?”  She looked at me desperate to find someone she could trust, and my heart broke. I looked straight at her and I could feel my eyes filling up with tears.

“I’m sorry.”  I said and she knew exactly what I meant.

“No, no, no!”  She started screaming and looked back to Dad. “Seventeen years.  Seventeen years you haven’t wanted me, and now…now you try to keep me here against my will?”

Dad looked at her, sadness filling his eyes.  He looked over at Jennifer and then back to Victoria.

“I didn’t know you existed Victoria and when I found out, you were already fourteen and your mom and I decided it would be best not to come in and mess up your life…just yet anyway.  It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make and if I had known how you were living, I would have fought for you that very day….but I was assured you were happy….”

Victoria turned to her mom.  “You told me he left us!”

“It was for the best honey.”

“Who are you to decide that?”  Victoria stood up.  “I don’t want to know either of you.”

And she ran.

Victoria

I ran out the door and down the road, tears flying off my face.  I stopped at the corner and bent down holding my legs heaving.  I couldn’t breathe.  I felt a hand on my back.  It was Jake.

“Don’t you dare touch me!”  I screamed and tried to run but he grabbed me.  I flung my arms at him trying to push him away but he grabbed me, and I was no match for his strength.  I screamed and struggled to free myself but there was no point and I finally gave up.  He didn’t say anything and neither did I.  I slumped down to the ground and he followed still holding me as I broke down and cried in his arms.  I could feel his heart pounding against my back as mine felt like it was going to burst.

We sat like that for what seemed like an eternity and the rhythm of his heart relaxing and slowing down had seemed to somewhat sooth mine as I relaxed too.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I finally asked without turning to look at him.

“I’m sorry Victoria.  I didn’t know what to do, I just had to trust what my dad told me…”

He was silent and I could feel his body heating up again not wanting to admit his betrayal.

“I, I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“Well, that plan went well didn’t it?”  My eyelids started to burn again with the pressure of tears.  I don’t know what response I was expecting from him but I’d hoped he’d say something that miraculously made all my pain go away.  But it didn’t.

“I’m so sorry Victoria.”  He whispered in my ear and pulled me closer to him.  I let him this time and unleashed round five of my never-ending tears.

He kissed the side of my head and I felt myself melt into him and I knew what I had to do.  I stood up slowly and Jake stared at me letting me be released from his grasp.  He stood up next to me and I turned without a word or look and we headed back towards home.  We got to the front door and he stopped me.

“Are you sure you want to go back in there?  I can let them know you need space?”
