Nikki closed the folder before sighing in frustration she turned her irritated gaze to his. “And just what in the hell are planning to do with these you sneaky, conniving, little jerk?”

“Let’s see I was thinking about handing them over to the police but I’m sure that you could find a way around that. So I thought maybe sending them to one of the media outlets however if you agree to marry me I’ll throw them in that fireplace over there.” Dmitry said as he braced himself for her reaction which more than likely wasn’t going to be pretty.

Nikki narrowed her eyes at him as she threw the folder across the room. Dmitry jumped out of bed fearing that she was about to hit him or worse.

“Now siren I know you probably really want to strangle me at the moment but the boys and I really love you and we don’t want to lose you. So before you
go on a rampage and snap my neck just remember that.” Dmitry said in a pleading tone.

Nikki shifted to her knees in the middle of the bed she beckoned for him to move closer, he swallowed hard as he slowly moved closer to the bed. She reached out and fisted her hands in his t-shirt pulling him closer still.

“Chéri, you had better be so glad that I love you and those boys because if I didn’t they’d already be hauling you off in an ambulance. I’ll marry you but only because I was planning to accept your proposal tonight anyway, that’s why I’d brought it up in the first place.” She said as a slow smile touched her lips.

“Damn
siren, don’t scare me like that but you have no idea how happy that I am you decided to become my wife.” Dmitry said with relief in voice.

Chapter Ten

Within six months of Dmitry and Nicolette meeting they were married to the delight of his mother, his two sons, Yuri and most of the staff at both the estate and at the company. However there were a few people that were very unhappy about this marriage. No one was stupid enough to openly abject to them being married, mainly because if they did Dmitry would make certain that they came up missing.

That was
a fact that he did bother to hide he was happy and so were both Mikhail and Valerik had finally gotten their wish Nikki was now their mother. Nikki and Olga became even closer they had a great mother-in-law daughter-in-law relationship but it was more like they were actually mother and daughter.

As time passed Nikki would occasionally receive threatening letters however she wasn’t really worried about it because she could take care of herself. Sasha begged her to tell Dmitry about the threats but she refuse to worry him for no reason.
Besides the letters were few and far between so it wasn’t something to worry about just yet.

Almost three years passed and Nikki and Dmitry were more in love now than they had been on the day they’d gotten married. Of course lately Nikki hadn’t been feeling too well so Olga had made her an appointment with the doctor.

At dinner that night when Nikki was asked how her appointment went she announced that the doctor had she that she was four months pregnant. She’d already told Dmitry and he’d been so happy that he’d shed a few tears. Now the both boys were jumping up and down with joy and Olga was sitting at the other end of the table crying happily.

Even Sasha was excited as she congratulated them on expanding their family.

When dinner was over Nikki and Dmitry had a very hard time putting the boys to bed they were too excited to sleep. Neither of them could stop talking about all the plans they had for the new baby they were both hoping for a sister. Nikki assured them that they would have to be happy with whatever they got.

“I’ll just be happy that Mikhail will finally have some
one else to boss around because I’m tired of it.” Valerik complained.

“I do not boss you around?” Mikhail said defensively.

“Yes you do you are so mean when Mama Nikki or papa aren’t around.” Valerik said as he snuggled closer to Nikki as she sat on sofa in the playroom.

“I am not you are such a liar Valerik.” Mikhail yelled.

“Alright that’s enough you two.” Dmitry said loudly hoping to calm the boys down.

“Your father is right I think that it’s time for the two of you to go to sleep.” Nikki said as she helped Valerik off the sofa before kissing him on the forehead. Mikhail walked over to her for his good-night kiss.

“I’m sorry Mama Nikki.” Mikhail said as he hugged her tightly.

“I know it’s alright sweetie I see you in the morning.” She said as she kissed him on the forehead also.

She watched as both boys went out the door and to their rooms. Nikki yawned sleepily covering her mouth with her hand.

“I think it’s time for someone else to go to bed and get some sleep. You go ahead siren I’ll tuck the boys in alone tonight and I’ll be there in bit.”
Dmitry said in a concerned tone as he kissed her softly on the lips.

“Alright C
héri, I’ll see you in a bit.” She said before going to their suite to climb into bed. Nikki was tired that she fell asleep the minute her head hit the pillow.

A couple of days later Nikki began to receive the threatening letters again she continued to hide them from Dmitry and the rest of her family. She’d been getting the letters daily for more than a week when she received the most threatening message of all. The person had started making threats against her husband and sons.

That was something she refused to ignore she was
going to have to deal with this but she’d do it her way.

Nikki threw the letter and the plane ticket on the desk and went to secondary closet that she’d turned into her security hub with computer and monitors and her weapons. After taking care of a few things she moved to the other closet and packed a suitcase.

When Nikki emerged from the closet Olga was there waiting for her holding the letter and the plane ticket. Olga demanded that Nikki tell her what was going on and she did explaining everything from the first letter to the one she was holding.

“How can this be happening after all the changes that you made to security?” Olga asked visibly upset.

“I wasn’t really worried about until now when it comes to children no security is foolproof all it takes is the slightest misstep to put their lives in jeopardy and I’m not prepared to take that chance. I love those boys too much to risk something happening to them.” Nikki said with tears in her eyes.

“So there’s nothing that we can do?” Olga asked.

“Not without putting their lives at risk and that’s what I won’t do. I don’t care that this person hates me because of my skin color but I won’t let them hurt my family because of it. This evil person is even threatening to hurt my unborn baby.” Nikki as she let the tears fall. “The thing that makes me so mad is that I have no idea who’s doing this because if I did I could end it.”

“Well you have me now dear and we will deal with this together but I can’t let you get on that plan
e I have a very bad feeling about this.” Olga said.

“You have a plan don’t you?” Nikki said knowing that Olga hadn’t spent all those years with her parents and not learns something.

“I most certainly do and when we catch this person and put an end to it you will come back to your family.” Olga said with confidence.

Nikki told Dmitry and the boys that she had to go on a business trip because one of the companies she been helping had a major issue that couldn’t be handled over the phone. She assured them that she would only be gone a few days.

Nikki kissed the boys and told them how much that she loved them and
while saying good bye to Dmitry she almost lost it. She’d never thought she could love someone as much as she loved him. There’s an ache starting to form in her chest and she knew that it was because she was missing him and the boys already.

How in the hell was she going survive being away from this man for heaven only knows how long. However she had to in order to protect the people she loved although her life would never be the same until she was back in his arms and with her boys again.

Nikki hide the tears she was holding back as she left the home that she’d come to love for last three years. But she swore if it was the last thing she ever did she was make whoever was responsible for this pay.

One day later Olga and Yuri had settled her in her new but temporary home with everything she’d need for now. The two had to go back to the estate and break the news to Dmitry that his wife and unborn child had been killed in a plane crash.

“This is not going to go well Duchess.” Yuri said in a very concerned tone.

“I know but we don’t have a choice until the threat is eliminated and hopefully that will be soon.” Olga said as tears formed in her eyes.

Epilogue

Twenty six years later 2013

“Oh my Lord that is the craziest story I’ve ever heard.” Ana said when Dmitry and Nikki were finished telling the story of how they got here. Ana was the mother of their new son-in-law Sergei who’d married their daughter Tasha.

“It may be crazy but every word of it is true.” Nikki said laughing.

“Okay wait so you came back does that mean that
you figured out who was threatening you?” Ollie asked sounding a bit confused. Ollie was Sergei’s father and Ana’s husband.

“Yes but it wasn’t until I returned that I found out who it was.” Nikki answered.

“What you didn’t tell us that you’d figured it out.” Tia said looking at her mother in surprise. Tia and Tasha were twins and they were the babies that Nikki was pregnant with when she’d went into hiding over twenty years ago.

“Well I didn’t think that I needed to tell you. I told you not to worry about it that I would take care of everything. Of course it was thanks to the help of Viktor that I was able to figure it out.” Nikki said with a smile as she glanced at Tia’s husband holding their newly arrived baby.

“All I did was give you the notebook that my father left for you after that you did the rest.” Viktor said smiling back as he finally remember everything Nikki had done for him and his father all those years ago. He’d given him back his father and given him a life that he didn’t know he could have.

She’d always been an amazing woman so it would stand to reason that she’d have two amazing daughters. One of which was his wife and the mother of his child.

“So who was it mom are you going to tell us or what?” Valerik asked in an impatient tone.

“Do all of you really need to know that it’s not like it will change anything and knowing too much could make you accomplices.” Nikki said in a serious tone.

“Like this’ll be the first time that ever happened have you forgotten that we are Romanov’s we’re use to being accused as an accomplice to something or another.” Mikhail said teasingly as he glanced over at his mother.

Valerik and Mikhail the twin sons that she’d had to leave behind had grown up to be very handsome men who were now married to two beautiful sisters Zabrina and Jazmina Abbott
. Since Nikki had returned the boys had dropped the Nikki part and just called her mama which she didn’t mind one bit because missed her boys so much.

“Well come on we’re dying to know, who was it?” Ollie asked excitedly.

“It was my old head of security Alek he developed a grudge after Nikki had brought to light his incompetence. He claimed that he felt embarrassed that not only a woman but a black woman with an attitude had made him look like a fool.” Dmitry said explaining who the culprit was.

“As you remember he didn’t need my help to look like a fool he did that by his damn self, he was such a stupid ass.” Nikki said in an irritated tone.

“At any rate it’s all over and this family is finally back together where they belong.” Olga said happily.

“Yeah
and it may have taken twenty plus years but at least we’re all still breathing.” Tia said sarcastically.

“Do you always have to be such a smart ass?” Valerik asked as he glared at his sister.

“Yes she does I’ve been dealing with her smart ass mouth for more than twenty years now it’s everybody else’s turn.” Tia said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“Turn what am I a video game?” Tia asked sarcastically.

“Actually a video game is fun you are not.” Valerik said teasingly.

“Boy, would you shut the hell up damn you always have something to say with your annoying ass.” Tia said in an irritated tone.

“Mama, why is Tia so damn mean?” Mikhail asked playfully.

“I recall a set of twin little boys that were quite mean when I first met then.”
Nikki said teasingly.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Mikhail said with a smile as he stood to walk over and kiss her on the cheek. “Good night mama I need to get my pregnant wife to bed, I’ll see you all in the morning.”
Mikhail escorted a sleepy and exhausted looked Zabrina out of the room.

“Good night you two sleep well.” Nikki said with a smile as she watched them go.

“Well I think we should be going to the baby just fell asleep so with any luck maybe we can get a couple of hours sleep.” Tia said as she and Viktor prepared to leave the family room. “Good night everyone see you in the morning.” Viktor said as he followed Tia while carrying their baby.
