Which probably begged the question, why was she getting turned on looking at him?

“Nicolai is a player who would do nothing but chew you up and spit you out,” Kirill said.

She closed the few feet between them. Then she poked her finger into his sternum. Hard. “Did it never occur to you that I might
want
to spend the night with a player? Maybe I want to be—how did you so eloquently put it—chewed up and spit out. It’s my birthday. I want to have fun.”

Something in his expression shifted dangerously close to pity.

A wave of overwhelming anger rushed over her. She was not going to let him pity her!

“Don’t you do that!” she snarled. “Do
not
feel sorry for me!”

“Who said I feel sorry for you?” He raised an elegant eyebrow. “Why would anyone feel sorry for such a beautiful, desirable woman?”

Her brain stuttered over his words. “Did you just call me desirable?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

He frowned. “Because it’s true.”

She stared in confusion. “You don’t get to say that!”

They stood at the mouth of an alley just beside the club. The foot traffic here thinned out, and they were basically the only two people in the street. Susan hadn’t stopped to think that it might not actually be safe for her to be out here by herself at night. But she was aware of it now.

She’d shared a cab with Oksana on the way here. And she had been so angry when she’d left the club that she hadn’t even thought to have the bouncer hail her a cab.

Susan turned and headed back toward the club.

“Where are you going?” he demanded. “Don’t you walk away from me.”

“I’ll do whatever I damn well please.” She didn’t look back.

She could practically feel the frustration rolling off him in waves as he followed her. “
Why
don’t I get to say that to you?”

“Why would I tell you?” She snorted and lengthened her stride as much as she could without actually running.

Her legs were deplorably short as far as she was concerned. Where Oksana was tall and willowy with golden blonde hair, pale flawless skin, and blue eyes, Susan was a short woman, round in the breasts and hips, with brown hair and brown eyes. People tended to refer to her as the “smart one.”

“I thought you wanted a player,” he called after her.

Her steps slowed in spite of her resolve. “What?” She turned around and stared at him. “I’m pretty sure things will be worse than awkward between myself and Nicolai at this point.”

“Not Nicolai.” He smiled at her.

“Has anyone ever told you that your smile reeks of supercilious self-confidence that really makes a person want to deck you in the mouth? Seriously. If I didn’t think I’d break my hand, I would totally punch you right now.”

“It might have been mentioned a few times over the years.” He didn’t sound a bit sorry.

“So, what? Are you going to introduce me to your friends or something? Do I have to have a one night stand with an Orlov to get your approval?”

“In a manner of speaking.”

Something about the way he said it gave her chills. “Oh, you think I’m going to fuck
you
?” She laughed out loud. “That would be a disaster.”

“Why?”

“For starters, your sister would wring both our necks.” She tried to imagine it and couldn’t. “She would call me stupid and never let me forget it. And you? I don’t know. She already hates your ass.”

“My sister feels many things for me, but hate is not one of them.” He waved away her concerns. “And Oksana would never have to know. Do you frequently tell her about your liaisons?”

Susan wasn’t about to admit that yes she did, because they were so few and far between that it made them a monumental life event worth sharing with her best friend.

“Oh, I forgot.” The mockery in his tone ground against her pride. “Girls tell each other everything.”

“Only when a guy is worth telling about.” She pretended to look him up and down. “I suppose I don’t have to worry about that with you, do I?”

IT WAS AS if Susan had thrown down a blatant challenge that Kirill could not back away from. He closed the distance between the two of them in one step. Wrapping his arms around her, he gave her ample time to protest. She didn’t. So he put his mouth on hers and kissed her senseless.

Or perhaps he was the one losing his mind. She tasted decadent. He had never experienced anything like it. Not only that, but she held nothing back. Twining her fingers in his hair, she stood on tiptoe and moved her lips against his as though she were going to make love to him with her mouth. Then she slid her tongue between his lips, and his primal instincts took over.

Their tongues tangled together, teeth clicking and both of them making animalistic noises as they grappled for dominance right there in the alleyway. He recalled the sight of her wrapped around Nicolai, and it fueled a possessive streak Kirill had never known he had.

He picked up one of her legs and pulled her knee to his waist. The position opened her crotch, and he angled himself so that her mound was pressed against his groin. He was already hard. Hell, he’d been hard the moment he’d seen her with Nicolai. Feeling the heat of her pussy through the thin fabric of her dress was intoxicating. It only made him want more.

Still kissing her, he slipped his hand beneath her dress and felt the silky smooth skin of her inner thigh. She made a tiny noise of approval. Kirill couldn’t help but smile. He broke away from their kiss and gently trailed his lips down the column of her throat. There was no fight in her now. She was as supple and willing as an eager cat.

His fingers brushed over the warmth of her sex. Her nether lips were spread, and he carefully pushed past the elastic band of her panties to touch her. She was so wet with arousal that he almost groaned with the power of his need. His cock was throbbing behind his zipper, but now was not the time for that.

Instead, he found the tiny bundle of nerves at the apex of her slit and focused his attention there. Her clit was hard and swollen with the blood rushing to her groin. She moaned when he circled it. Her hips jerked in response, and he repeated the motion again and again until she was trembling against him.

Susan’s fingers were tangled in his shirt now. She clung to him as he played with her pussy and nudged her closer and closer to orgasm. He could feel every nuance of her pleasure. She was utterly honest in her response. She grew wetter and hotter. He felt her inner muscles clench as he spread the hood of her clit and stroked her folds with two fingers. And when he slid his third finger deep inside her channel, she clenched tightly around him.

He rubbed a slow, tantalizing trail over the smooth muscles inside her pussy. She rolled her hips in response. It was as if she were following him to beg for more. He wanted to give her more. He inserted a second finger. Spreading the two, he stretched her channel as though he were preparing her for the penetration of his thick cock. Her gasp told him that she liked that a lot. But when he placed the pad of his thumb against her clit and began to finger fuck her in earnest, she came undone completely.

“Oh my God,” she whispered hoarsely. The epithet was on her lips again as she inched closer to climax.

“That’s it,” he crooned softly. “Come for me. Take your pleasure.”

She melted so prettily that Kirill almost came in his pants just from the soft cries of enjoyment that escaped her parted lips. “Sexy” did not cover this amazing woman.

The scent of her cream clung to his fingers as he withdrew from beneath her dress.

The dazed expression on Susan’s face was worth every lash of her tongue. Kirill was utterly satisfied with the knowledge that he had brought her pleasure unlike any she had ever enjoyed before.

“You absolutely suck,” she whispered hoarsely, still clinging to his shirt.

He laughed. “Do I?”

“Yes! How can such a complete jerk be so damn good with his hands?”

He let his mouth brush the sensitive shell of her ear. Taking her lobe between his lips, he gently sucked on the skin. “I’m even better with my mouth.”

She inhaled sharply as though she’d briefly lost her breath. “That’s a naughty thought.”

“No. That’s a good thought.”

“So what now? Are you done with me, player that you are?” She seemed to be challenging him with her words.

“Do you want me to be done?” He wanted to hear her say the words.

“Not yet.”

“Then go home and wait. I’ll come to you later tonight.”

He helped her to settle her dress around her legs. She continued to grip his arm as though she wasn’t quite certain of her balance. He glanced toward the street. There was no way he was leaving her here alone. Then he saw the dingy yellow smear of a cab pulling up to the curb outside the club.

“Let’s get you a cab.” He swept her up into his arms without asking her permission. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway. He had no time for her protests.

Kirill waved down the cabbie and opened the vehicle’s back door. He set Susan gently inside. Putting one finger beneath her chin, he forced her to meet his gaze. “Later tonight.”

Her nod was the last thing he saw before the door slammed and the cab pulled away from the curb. It sped off into the night, and he watched it go until it disappeared around a corner and was gone from sight.

Chapter Three

Susan could not imagine what she had been thinking to say that she wanted Kirill to come to her house later that night. Had she lost her mind? Oksana would
kill
her! Not to mention the idea of getting involved with a known player was not her best one. It was one thing to go out looking for a good time. But even in her steamy moments with Nicolai she had denied him any kind of access to more.

Not so with Kirill. When he was anywhere near, her brain simply seemed to shut off.

She jumped as she thought she heard boots on her front porch. The old house was creaky enough as it was. Now every noise was making her paranoid that Kirill was outside. What would she tell him? There was only one good answer, of course. Anything else was just crazy.

She paced down the narrow hallway from her kitchen to her bedroom. She told herself that she just needed to put on something more comfortable. But when she took off her dress and pulled out her nicest lingerie, she had to admit that she was doing it just in case Kirill showed up.

The sapphire blue chemise hit her mid thigh, and the matching thong panties had just the right amount of lace to be feminine but not overdone. She felt sexy and wanton, and maybe she even felt confident enough to let Kirill inside her house.

Then there was a knock at the front door, and she nearly changed her mind.

At the last second, she grabbed her short black robe from the chair in her bedroom. Pulling it on, she took a deep breath and headed for the front door.

He was standing in deep shadow on her porch. Her mouth went instantly dry at the sight of him. To say that she was turned on by his mere presence was the ultimate understatement. There was no way she was going to tell this man no. Ever.

“You actually showed up.” She kept her tone flippant. “I’m surprised.”

“Why would you be surprised?” He pushed her door all the way open and stepped inside.

“For starters, I wasn’t even sure you knew where I lived.” That was actually a good question. How
had
he known?

He quirked an eyebrow, the action seeming almost blasé. “My sister comes here frequently. I always keep an eye out for her. I’ve dropped her off here more than once.”

“Oh, I guess you have.” Now she just felt stupid.

“Susan?”

“Yes?”

“How about you offer me a drink?”

“Right. Alcohol.” She turned and walked into the kitchen, leaving him to close and lock the front door. “What do you want?”

“What do you have?”

She grimaced, looking at her sad little collection of liquor. “Not much, I suppose.”

“Do you have vodka?” he asked, walking into her kitchen and taking up every inch of space available.

Susan brightened. “Actually, yes. Your sister drinks that nasty stuff too.”

“Tonight you will drink with me.”

“Yeah? No thanks.” But on second thought, she got out two shot glasses anyway. She could use the liquid courage at this point.

Kirill took the bottle from her hand and poured. He threw back one shot immediately and then poured himself another. Susan gingerly picked hers up and sniffed it.

He didn’t even bother to hide his grin at her behavior. “And what does it smell like?”

“Rubbing alcohol,” she said honestly. “How do you like this stuff?”

“It isn’t about like.” He gestured to the shot. “Come on, Susan. Be brave.”

Perhaps no other words would have affected her so strongly.

She threw back the shot and felt the burn slide all the way down her throat until it hit her belly like a ton of bricks. She coughed, putting her hand in front of her mouth and praying she didn’t vomit everywhere.

He only laughed.

“You really are a jerk.”

He cocked his head to one side. “And yet you’re glad I’m here.”

“I am.”

“Why?”

That was a good question. She struggled to find the right words to answer. Her brain actually felt a little fuzzy from the shot. How odd. “Being a nice guy doesn’t determine whether or not you’re a good lover. And right now, I think I’m just looking for a guy who is good in bed.”

“Then I think you’ve come to the right man. As I already showed you in that alley outside the club.”

She would have protested, but he grabbed her and spun her around so that her back was to his front. She tried to move and could not. Her heart began to pound with nervous excitement. She could smell the spicy maleness of him, and her body began to respond.

“Admit it,” he whispered in her ear. “I gave you more pleasure with my fingers than any other lover has done with his cock.”

She swallowed. Her mouth was drier than cotton. “Maybe.”

“Maybe, my ass.”

He kissed her neck, making her shiver. The softness of his lips was a direct contrast to the harsh way he was holding her. This was a man who did not apologize for being one. He would take everything she had to offer and demand more.
