Chapter 34

Sara was awakened by the sound of a blender. Her mind hazy
from a fitful sleep, it took her a minute to remember where she was and why she
was there. She sat up and went for her phone to see what time it was. When she
picked up her phone it was off so she hit the top button to turn it on. Her
screen display showed that she had 10 missed calls from Eric 10 new voice
messages and 15 text messages all from Eric. Without even looking at them she
deleted them all and she deleted the voice messages without listening to a
single one. There is no excuse that he could give her that she hadn't heard in
her 10 years of marriage with Michael.

After she cleared the messages
and texts her screen showed that I was 10:48. Still tired she wished she could lie
back down and sleep for another 10 hours.

But she was going to be a grown-up and not wallow in self-pity
so she got up and grabbed her tote and headed for the bathroom to shower and
dress. There's something about a long hot shower that just helps relax and ease
the stress in your body

as she got out she felt a lot better, dressing in
her jeans and a tank top she walked downstairs to find Jo Ann. Jo Ann was in
the kitchen drinking a smoothie, she must have used the blender to make it
because that was the sound that woke Sara up. Lifting her glass toward Sara Jo
Ann greeted her.

“Good morning sleepyhead would you like a banana strawberry
protein shake to start the day?”

“No I want hot donuts”

“I know you said that last night but having a protein shake
will make up for the empty calories you're gonna eat when you have your
donuts.”

JoAnn didn't wanna bring up the sore subject

but
she was curious and she wanted to know what Sara’s next move was so she asked.

“Have you heard from him?”

Sara took in a deep breath and let it out with a huff. “I
had 15 texts 10 miss calls and 10 messages from him on my phone I deleted them
all without looking at them.”

“I know what he did and I know you can't forgive him but do
you think you might need to talk to him one more time to get closure to move
on?”

“No I'm gonna do everything to erase the last two weeks and
just forget that it ever happened.”

“Do you think that's possible Sara I mean you fell in love
with him?”

“I was in love with Michael too, look where that got me; no
I think I'm just going to erase it all. In fact I wanna go to the AT&T
store and change my number I need a local number anyway.”

“Alright I am your friend and I am going to support you and
any decision you make. Let me finish up my shake and we could go get our donuts
and then head to the AT&T store.”

Eric got into the shop early and he buried himself in
paperwork, back work, paperwork that needed to be filed just anything and
everything to keep his mind busy and off of Sara. When he finally stopped he
looked at the time and saw that is just after 1p.m. He thought that she should defiantly
be awake by now so he pulled out his cellphone to call her. Eric was completely
shocked and dumbfounded when the number he dialed came up as being disconnected.
There must be some mistake he must have dialed the wrong number, he redialed
again.

But
again the automated voice told him that the number he is calling was no longer
in service. Eric threw this phone down onto the table. “What the fuck?!”

He couldn't believe it, she must've change her number, she
must've changed her number this morning. He knew he shouldn't have listened to Matt;
he should've gone over there first thing and straightened all this out.

Eric kept running his hands through his hair frustrated.

“What should I do now?”

Well there is only one thing he could do, go to her
apartment he wasn't gonna let her get away he wasn't gonna let this
misunderstanding ruin the best thing that ever had happened to him. She was his
dammit she belong to him. With a scowl so big and so mean on his face that not
anyone in the shop dare approach or even greet him; he left the store in a
storm jumping into his truck one destination in mind Sara's apartment. Upon
arrival at her apartment he saw her car was still parked in her spot.

“Good she’s home.”

He jumped out of his truck and stomped his way to her
apartment. The first couple knocks were normal but when she didn't come to the
door he began to pound on it calling out her name. Thump thump thump thump “Sara
I know you're in there.” Thump thump thump “Open this damn door now.” He
carried on like this for a few minutes. But stopped when a man got his
attention.

“Excuse me sir”

Eric turned around to see a nice older gentleman with silvery
hair and a weathered face wearing khaki shorts and

a polo top holding a
ring of keys.

“Yes” Eric said in a very harsh tone.

“My name is Mark Brown I’m the apartment manager here; I've
received some complaints from the other residents.

“Complaints?”

“Yes they're

complaining about your pounding on Miss Stevens door.”

“Well if she opened the door I wouldn't be pounding on it.”
His voice was in a very sarcastic tone.

“Sir if she hasn’t opened the door and if she's in there she
can hear you because the rest of the apartment complex does; so then it stands
to reason that she does not want to talk to you.”

“Well she's going to talk to me.” Turning his back to Mr.
Brown he once again began to thump on Sara's door.

“Sir, sir excuse me sir.”

Eric stopped to face the old man again.

“I'm afraid you're causing too much of a disturbance and I'm
going to have to ask you to leave the premises. And I suggest that you don't
come back until you are invited. Now you can leave quietly or I can call
security.”

Eric's top was about to blow, he was already upset, pissed
off and just a hairs breath away from exploding and here was this old man
kicking him off the property the only way he could get to Sara. With a look
that would kill any man standing, he answered.

“Fine.”

His
voice was clipped and sharp.

He looked to Sara's door one more time before he looked to
the old man and left. Full of rage almost to the point of feeling violent, he
knew he should not be around anybody so he drove home to calm down relax and
rethink of a way to get touch with Sara.

Walking out of the AT&T store Jo Ann was surprise at how
little of a wait there was.

“Ok mission one accomplished where to next?”

Sara thought about it for a moment she was craving sweets,
comfort food. “I know let’s go the C
heesecake factory.”

Jo Ann’s eyes widened and she smiled and clapped her hands
in excitement. “I love The Cheesecake Factory!”

They climbed into Jo Ann’s Kia and took off; talking about
all the different flavors to choose from which ones were their favorites and
how many pieces they should take home to freeze to eat at a later date.

Chapter 35

Driving up his driveway he sees that his two cousins are
still there; he quickly debates whether he should go in or just drive around
till he cooled off because no doubt his cousins were going to rattle his cage.
But then he thought of how much traffic he may run into around town and the
fact that he might get road rage which would just tip him over the edge. He was
already balancing on. Decision made he got out of his truck and went inside his
house. When he walked in both his cousins were kicking back on his couch with a
beer in hand watching TV.

“What are you two still doing here?” Eric asked and not very
politely.

Gio answered him “We wanted to see how things turned out.”

“Well because I listen to shithead (he pointed to Matt)
everything is fucked up. I wanted to go this morning but no Matt said give her
time. So I waited to after 1pm to call her.”

Gesturing with his hands in a come on fashion Gio was asking
him to continue. “And?”

“And (he spit the word at them with venom in his tone ) She
changed her damn cell number.”

Matt and Gio both spoke at once. “What?”

“Yeah so I went to her apartment and she won’t open the
door. Then the manager came and kicked me off the property for causing a
disturbance. Now what the hell I am supposed to do?”

“Question (Gio raised his hand as if he were in school) how
do you know she was ignoring you at her apartment?”

“Because her car was in her parking spot and I all but
kicked that door down an she never answered” Eric’s voice became increasingly
loud as he spoke.

Gio was trying to hold back the sarcasm because he knew Eric
was on edge. “Ok let’s think about this, she left last night with Jo Ann in her
car, she was upset and crying. Do you really think Jo Ann is just going to drop
her off at her apartment at 2am when she was a wreck? No she would have either
stayed with her or taken her to her house to try and comfort her.”

Matt was nodding his head in agreement thumbing at Gio.
“True women do that kind of stuff, men just want to be alone but women want
someone to cry to or cry with.”

Eric threw himself in his recliner, covering his face with
his hands. “Shit I got myself banned from her apartments and she wasn’t even
there.”

“It’s like I told you this morning for some reason your
brain just doesn’t work with this girl.”

Eric shot Matt a scathing look for that comment. Gio just
leaned back and put his feet up on the recliner. “If this is what love does to
you than you can keep it I don’t want it mama will just have to be happy with
Matt and Bri getting married and giving her grandkids.”

Sitting forward resting his elbows on his knees he looked to
both of his cousins. “What do I do now.”

Matt just shrugged with an “I don’t know.”

Gio just sat there staring, not at him but through him; he
was in deep thought. Then he began nodding his head as if he was talking to
himself in his head and agreeing. He then gave Eric his options. “Well, the way
I see it you can wait for her at work or call her at work. You can try to get
in touch through Jo Ann or you can go old school sending flowers and letters.”

Matt chimed in with his two cents. “I wouldn’t wait for her
at her work to stalker like and if you call her at work when she’s busy you’ll
just piss her off more.”

“I don’t even know Jo Ann’s last name so I can’t go through
her and she probably hates me same as Sara.”

Gio cut in. “No Sara doesn’t hate you she’s just hurt, so
she’s cut you out trying to protect herself women do it all the time. And I
doubt Jo Ann hates you she probably hates me more.”

Eric eyebrows scrunched and his head slightly tilted to the
side, he was missing something. “Why would Jo Ann hate you more?”

Gio took another pull from his beer and rested one arm on
the back of the couch, kinda settling in before he told his tale.

“Last night
when Jo Ann and I were dancing she told me what Tracy said as I told you but
she also asked me if there was any left over feelings between you two. I swore
to her that nothing was going on and that if there was I’d even break guy code
and tell her cause she’s too nice to get messed with. So it stands to reason
that she thinks I lied straight to her face. Thus making me a bigger asshole
than you.” He raised his beer to Eric. “Cheers.”

Matt looked over to his brother. “What do you care if she
hates you or not.”

“I don’t.”

“Then why bring it up?” Matt countered.

“I was just saying that’s all.”

“Uh huh.” Matt voice was full of sarcasm and he rolled his
eyes at Gio.

Clapping his hands loudly Eric got the attention of his two
cousins back. “Hey let’s focus on me ok, I can’t lose her, I won’t lose her.”

“Then I guess that leaves you with option old school.”
Matt

replied.

“Hey hey hey.” Gio cut in. “When we moved her bedroom suite
and had beers in the kitchen I saw a cordless phone. Does she have a land
line?”

“I doubt she could have changed that this morning.” Matt
added.

Eric let out a big sigh in frustration. “I don’t have that
number and she just got it hooked up so she’s not in the printed phone book and
I’m not even sure she’s listed.”

“No harm in trying.”

“True.”

Rubbing her stomach Jo Ann groaned with discomfort. “I can’t
believe I ate so much, I knew I was full but it tasted so good I just had to
finish.”

Sara waved her finger at Jo Ann. “Tsk tsk, over eating is
bad for you, that’s why I chose to bring some home with me so I wouldn’t get
sick and could enjoy cheesecake all week.”

“Like that’s healthy.”

Sara pinched Jo Ann’s arm. “Ouch!”

“Serves you right, I need comfort food.”

“Yeah yeah.”

“Do you have Netflix?

“Yeah why?”

“I say we go back to your place and just veg with Netflix
and junk food.”

“Ok sounds like a plan, but I don’t want to watch anything
weepy, I want comedy, romcom or action.”

“Jo Ann trust me I’ve had enough drama this weekend. I defiantly
don’t want to watch any.”

“True enough.”

Driving back to Jo Ann’s Sara stared out her window pensively.

“You know I just don’t understand, I know we were only
together for two weeks but it was a condensed two you know, we did things said
things that take average people months or years to say and do. I met his
family, he told me about his past; he told me he loved me that he wanted no one
but me. Why would he do those thing if he had her.

And when we made love, looking into his eyes, you can’t fake
that emotion burning in them.”

As she was talking tears slowly began to run down her face,
she wiped them away but they still came.

“I’m so sorry Sara, I don’t understand it either, men just
suck we should stick to chocolate romcoms and battery operated love.”

That made Sara laugh, which was

what Jo Ann was trying to do. She didn’t want to see her cry
any more. She blamed herself, if she had never given Eric Sara’s info none of
this would have happened. She never would have guessed that Sara would fall in
love, she just wanted her to get out have fun. Enjoy being single and dating
since she never had. But now after having her heart broken again Sara would be
even more gun shy about dating again. Jo Ann didn’t blame her thou after all
she still hadn’t started dating again.

Back at Jo Ann’s the girls unloaded the car and went up
stairs. They popped popcorn and grabbed their sodas along with the junk food
they had bought and went to the living room to get settled. Once they were cozy
each on either side of Jo Ann’s over stuffed couch covered with a throw they
began to search Netflix for a movie.

After a long debate they finally settled with

Spaceballs, there was no threat of tears or drama in that
movie; it was just stupidly funny.

When the movie was over they cleaned up their candy wrappers
and popcorn bowls and decided to call it an early night.

After all the best cure for stress was
rest and relaxation. When they were done taking turns in the bathroom they bid
each other good night and went to bed. As Sara lay down she tried to keep her
thoughts away from Eric but she couldn’t it had only been one day without him
and she missed him so much. When she had left Michael she was sad, disappointed
but more over their failed marriage. She had cried at the hurt he caused with
his betrayals and the loss of a life time love but she never felt as she did
now. With Eric she actually ached.
