“Yes?” My voice was little more than a squeak as I replied.
“I realized that we may have started out on the wrong foot. I also want to apologize. It was ill mannered of me for treating you so poorly.”
“Oh?” I was shocked. Not only was he calling me to apologize but he was so humble about it. I was suddenly on guard. Something definitely wasn’t right. “I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“No. I insist and I won’t take no for an answer.”
I didn’t want to anger him again. We were finally making headway. “Well thank you, Mr. Smith.”
“You’re very welcome. And Trina?”
“Yes?”
“I can’t wait to see you again tomorrow.” The phone went dead and I sat there looking at it. That night was a restless night. I blamed it on the nap I had but I knew it was also related to the last sentence my new boss said to me.
Chapter 4
The next morning I made my way into the office. The men were there hanging up lights. I couldn’t believe it was Christmas again. The company party was coming up that weekend. I always went for a little bit. However I wasn’t one of the bombshells that worked there so I normally left much earlier than everyone else and it was always alone. Although a few years ago I almost did take someone home with me. It was a guy named Mark. He was one of the executives out of the Los Angeles office. I found out right before leaving that Mark wasn’t as unattached as I thought.
One of the women from that office had been gracious enough to tell me of his expecting wife. She was on child number 3 in a marriage that she thought was perfect. Apparently I hadn’t been Mark’s first mark. I smiled as I parked the car. Today was going to be a good day. I said that to myself all the way inside and up the elevator. It wasn’t until I stepped into my office that all hell broke loose. I stared at the man sitting behind my desk. Suddenly I became rigid when I noticed that my things were no longer there. I went to turn around to make my way across the hall when his head came up.
“Oh. I’m glad you’re here. Come in.” Was he really acting like it was his office? What in the hell was going on here?
“Oh why thank you for inviting me into my own office.”
“Well our office for the time being. I think you know this business better than anyone, and we should be working closely together.” I followed his outstretched hand to where a desk had been brought in. It was the same size as the one he sat at which was surprising. Now, mind you, I knew I had a corner office that was very large but the thought of having to share it with him was just way too much. I needed to get out of there and fast. I turned and looked at his smug smile and could have puked right then and there. Okay, two could play at this game. I smiled at him as I made my way across the room to where my designated desk sat and had a seat. It was at least my own chair. I could tell by the way it squeaked high pitched as I turned to the left and downward just a bit. I smiled to myself as I thought of the times me and that chair had. “If I had known all it took was a chair and office to make you smile like that then I would have done it the first time you came in and we met.”
“Yes, I’m sure.”
“You aren’t a hard one to please are you? I’m sure you get excited easily huh?” I looked up to see that he was extremely close leaning over my desk. There was a devilish twinkle to his eye and I wondered if he had a hidden meaning in there somewhere. It must have been the way his eyes dropped to my breasts and back up again. Oh boy how was I going to get through this? I knew exactly how. Taking a deep breath I smiled back at him coyly. Give him back his own medicine.
“I am actually. And the other person always seems to reach a certain point of satisfaction when dealing with me as well.” My head cocked to the side as I regarded him with a challenging look.
“That I can no doubt see. You always seem to surprise me though. You’re a firecracker. You do know however what happens when a firecracker meets water don’t you?”
“What?”
“It begins to sizzle out of control. I think that I’m your water and it will be fun over the next few weeks to watch you sizzle until you sizzle completely out of control.”
I realized I had been holding my breath and smiling. I directed my attention towards my bag and started unloading it. “We shall see.” I felt his presence disappear as he walked back over to his desk. I knew it was going to be the longest few weeks of my life. If I could just make sure to get my job done then I would be fine. That and to keep my hands to myself and as far away from Mr. Cocky Hotshot as they could be. That however I could see would be the biggest challenge.
I soon had my computer booted up and ready to start. Yesterday’s events had me behind now. Since Earl had made me leave early I had lost a whole day of work. I groaned out loud thinking of trying to catch up. I heard the chuckle before realizing I wasn’t alone. Good grief. Yet again I thought of how hard it was going to be. That day went by kind of fast. I just decided to ignore him. Maybe he would be like a small gnat. If I pretended he wasn’t there maybe he would shoo away. Towards the end of the day I saw that I was going to have no such luck.
“Hey, feisty?”
“My name is Trina.”
“Yeah. Well tomorrow I need to see if I could get your help. I need someone who can sort through these files. You see, I need to investigate some of these purchase orders.”
I sighed then looked at him and realized that he was scrunched over the desk looking at it intently. I knew he was here for something and knew if I helped then maybe it would go faster. “Sure. I just need to tell Earl. I have some reports that are due tomorrow evening and I need to let him know they’ll be late.”
“Okay, but I’m sure it will be ok.” I started to walk out and turned to see him looking at me with a real smile. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” I returned his smile and went to leave.
“Have a good night.” He stood at the door and yelled out. There were only a few people left and they looked up shocked. I knew it would be rude not to respond and knowing I didn’t want it to get back to Earl, I turned my head as I kept walking.
“You too.” I watched as his head shrank back inside the door frame. That night I tried to sleep. The problem was I had visions of that quirky smile and dark blue eyes in my sleep. They haunted me, not to mention his body. Oh yeah I had noticed how well he filled out the pants of his suit. I shouldn’t have been thinking about having my way with my boss but that is what I wanted. I wanted to throw him down and have my way with him, over and over again.
Chapter 5
Surprisingly the next morning I woke up feeling energized and refreshed. I laughed as I jumped in the shower and quickly got ready for work. I wore a flowy skirt that came to just above my knees and a simple pull over shirt of light blue. I loved the little shirt because it paired so well with my complexion. There weren’t too many people there as early as I was. I made my way to my office or at least my partial office. Looking over at my desk, my eyes widened in shock. Where were my papers? Where were the reports? I looked around and suddenly something wasn’t right. All the stuff that I had been working on yesterday had disappeared.
“Good morning.”
I turned to see David standing there holding a steaming cup of coffee. “Uh. Was someone in here this morning? All my stuff is gone.”
“Oh no. I talked to Earl for you and told him about the reports. He immediately said that for you not to worry about it. He would take care of them and then he whisked them away off your desk. I didn’t want to see you get into trouble for helping me.”
“Really? So you just had him take my work?”
He sighed as he set his cup down and made his way to me. “Look. I know we got off on the wrong foot. I know you don’t think too kindly of me but I wouldn’t jeopardize your job for any reason. I know it’s important to you and that you do a good job with it. I don’t want to lose one of our good workers either, so I’m trying to make amends of the way we started off. It would be stupid of me to push out one of our best employees. So I spoke to Earl about you worrying over your reports being late and he took it upon himself to help out with them. That’s what a boss does. It’s part of his job to make sure everything runs smoothly and helping you with your reports is part of the reason that he makes the big money.”
“And it had nothing to do with you telling him to do them?” My hands were on my hips as he made his way over to me. He stood right in front of me and it required me to tip my head back to look up at him.
“No. I simply asked for an extension on the reports. He took it upon himself to take them. So if you have a problem with the way things worked out then I suggest you take it up with him.”
“Fine. Thank you.” I tried to turn away but his hand gripped my arm.
“You are so hard all the time. Don’t you just want to be spontaneous? Just enjoy a moment or two?”
I looked up into his eyes and felt myself almost swoon. “I do.”
“When?”
“When I’m alone.”
He chuckled as he pulled me closer. “That can get kinda lonely, don’t you think?”
“Yeah. But it’s also safe.”
“Hmmm. But you have to be willing to face the thought of being burned if you want to play in the fire.”
“I like the ocean more.”
“So you have to be willing to swim with sharks.”
I felt my eyes almost bulge out from their sockets when he pulled me so that we were flush against each other. I could feel his body against mine and it was hot but that wasn’t where most of my focus was. It was on his hardened cock pressed into the small of my stomach. I sucked in a breath when his hand moved from my arm to the back of my head. I felt his lips soft as butterfly wings brush against mine. Then he pressed his lips to mine a little harder.
There was a surge of electricity that shot through my body at the contact. As I gasped with the sensation he slipped his tongue inside my mouth and I felt myself leaning into him even more as he held me up and against him. I moaned deeply as his tongue began to explore my mouth. I felt it on my tongue coaxing it to join in. I felt it against my teeth and tickling the roof of my mouth. I suddenly heard someone clear their throat and I instantly stepped back. My hand rose to touch my lips as we both turned to see Peggy standing there. I almost moaned again.
Chapter 6
Peggy Sinclair was the biggest gossip in the damn building. I knew that by the end of the day the whole building would know about the kiss. I could still feel the electricity surging through me. What was wrong with me? I didn’t go around kissing everyone. I was better than that, and especially not this pompous asshole. But there was something that drew me to him. Something that demanded that I regard him as a man and a virile one at that. I looked down and then realizing what I was doing I looked back up to see his knowing smile.
“Yes, Peggy. What can I do for you?”
“Oh. Earl gave me a couple of your reports and I just had a couple questions. I’m so excited. I’ve never been given such a big job. Thank you so much for letting me work on them for you.” I didn’t have the heart to tell her it wasn’t my idea. “I wanted to make sure they were exactly right. You know, to do them like you did them.”
“Sure, Peggy. Come on in and over here to this desk. I’ll go over the first couple pages of one with you and then if you have any more questions you can always come back.”
“Thank you so much.”

It was two hours later when Peggy finally left the office. I had taken an extra-long time showing her how to research the numbers in the report. She had been extra grateful. I continued to ignore the stares and glances that were thrown my way from across the room. I suddenly didn’t want Peggy to leave as she gathered the books to head out. I didn’t want to face David. It was the last thing in the world I needed or wanted at the time. I didn’t need or want him and I certainly didn’t want anything he could give me, although my body apparently did.
Peggy made her way out of the office, and turning my attention back to the computer I decided to read my emails. I quickly brought it up as I heard the door shut. I looked up to see David standing in front of me looking down. “We need to talk.”
“No we don’t. We need to work.”
“You know damn good and well that we do need to talk. That was no ordinary kiss.”
“What kiss? It’s forgotten.”
“No it’s not. You know as well as I do that there’s something between us and damned if I don’t want to come around there and do it again among other things. I want you, Trina, and in the end I will have you.”
“Who the hell do you think you are? I’m not some piece of clothing or something that you can buy. People can’t be bought or sold. Just because you have money doesn’t mean that you have everything. You don’t get to just come in here and change shit around and then demand that I spread my legs for you just because of who you are.”
