“I… uh, yea,” I rubbed the back of my neck and struggled to hide my own shock from my voice. An hour? How was that even possible?

“Emily?”

“Yea—sorry—I’m here. I just had some grocery shopping I needed to do. I guess I lost track of time,” I answered, though I was certain it wasn’t his place to need an answer. I suddenly felt exposed being in just the towel even though I was only on the phone with him.

“Oh, I see. Well, I was calling to see if you had an answer to my proposal yet?”

I cupped my hand on the receiver and groaned, glaring at the phone as though my cold stare might freeze him on the other end. A “proposal” he called it; like dating me was a business endeavor!

“I have and, Michael, I’m afraid that—”

“There’s no rush, Emily. Give it some more thought. I’m sorry about calling you this late, I’m sure you are barely of the mind to give me an answer. I will talk to you later. Good night.”

“Barely of the—Hey!
Wai—” I frowned, as the receiver went dead and I slammed the phone down.

The nerve of some people
! I growled as I headed back to the shower and let myself fall back into the water’s warm embrace.

Hopefully, tomorrow would be a better day.
