“I know,” she said as the limo stopped moving.
“What do you think I’m doing this for? I love to have you pound into me and sink your canines into my shoulder when you come.”
The door opened before he could comment. She was glad
because when she reached for the drivers hand to help her out, she felt his teeth bite into her ass as she moved. She nearly fell into the other man’s arms when she stumbled. When Sebastian got out, she could see that his cat was just as needy as the man. He rolled over Sebastian like a glove, his colors fighting for room over his flesh.
“You’re going to pay for that.”
He whispered in her ear and nipped at her lobe. “You’re so going to pay for that.”
She was barely paying attention.
The building where they’d first met about this thing was transformed. It looked like something out of a fairy land where castles might exist. She looked at Monica and the rest as they came toward them. Each of the men was dressed in the same style of tux as Sebastian, and the women were all dressed in silk and lace. She laughed when she saw George.
He had opted for a bola
, not a tie. And his tux was white. She smiled at him when he winked at her. Corrine smacked his arm.
“The old fool had to be different.
He just couldn’t pick out a black tux. No, he had to be special.” Corrine fussed with his lapel and Ama knew that Corrine was very proud of her husband and loved him dearly. “Next time you have one of these shingle dingles, I’m going to make sure he conforms.”
“No
, you won’t.” George kissed his mate soundly on the mouth before she could speak again. “You’ll let me wear what I want or we’ll stay home and I’ll chase you around the dining room again.”
The boys all groaned
, and the rest of them laughed. She loved these two very much, and was glad now that she’d decided to help them with their computer. They were the best thing that had happened to her.
The entrance to the building was lined with guards
, each of them wearing the purple of the clothing that had been sent to Ama and Sebastian. They had a moment of panic that they’d not be allowed entrance to their own “shingle dingle,” as Corrine had called it. But the moment she and Sebastian stepped on the first step, the guards came to attention and raised their swords to their chin. She looked at Sebastian.
“You ready?”
She nodded in response. “Then let’s get this over with. I want to get out of this suit and into you as soon as possible.”
As soon as they stepped over the threshold
, she knew that whatever they wore, everyone in this room would know who they were. And there were a great many people in the room with them. Ama gripped Sebastian to her as they walked past the guard. This was on a grand scale like she’d never seen before.
“Hello.”
The woman who suddenly appeared before them was dressed in the same purple as the guard. “My name is Peony. I’m from the Ninth Ward and here to make sure you are well received.”
“I’m Ama
, and this is….” The woman nodded at her and smiled. “You know who we are, don’t you?”
“Yes
, my lady, we all do. And I must say that I’m glad to see that you are a forward thinking king and queen. When I was asked to send you the attire for this evening, I shuddered to think what you’d do with them. I would have tossed them on the floor and set them to flames.” Ama nodded. “Come. Let me introduce you to your host. His name is Lord Galin Derik. He is the prince of my ward.”
The night was a blur after the first hour. They were introduced to every person in the room. And once she’d talked w
ith Lord Galin, the rest of the people in the room seemed to relax. As they ate the bounty on the laden tables and drank juice for hours, she began to see that this was just what the lord had told her it was…a way for everyone to meet them.
“I had hoped that your sire would be here
, but he has…I believe he said he had other plans.” She had smiled at Lord Galin. “The man is a fool if he thought that he could run you like he did his mate. There was not a more stubborn man than him, and he never let up.”
“You
knew my mother then?” Galin nodded. “I didn’t know her before she thought my father died. But she was broken. I don’t think she would have lived had it not been for me.”
“You’re correct.
There was not a woman who loved her mate as she did him.” He smiled. “Except for the way you love yours. You two are very much in love.”
“We are.”
She looked for Sebastian across the room, and he turned to her just as she thought of him. “He makes me feel like I can take on the world and win.”
“As it should be.”
Galin took her to the gifts that had been brought. “Most of these you will find useless. There are some things among them that you could and probably should put to the trash bin. But the books…there are four of them you should read. They will help you in your days to come.”
“And where will we be in the days that come?”
He grinned at her again. “I don’t want to leave my family. I’ve only just found them and I want to keep them close to me.”
“You can stay where you are.
No one need have you in their realms unless there is a problem. And as I’ve been watching them for you, it has been smooth riding. Actually, I’m sad to give it over to you. I wish only my own realm ran so well.”
“So we just watch over th
e realms and do what it needs to keep them running.” He told her pretty much that was it. “I don’t understand what the deal is then. I mean, if it runs so well with you, why do they need me?”
“
Because you’re their queen. It is as it’s always been.” He bowed before her. “You will be fine, my lady. Simply do what you do best and things will work out.”
She hoped so
as they made their way back home. She certainly hoped so. She was ready to begin her life with Sebastian and maybe have a few children. She leaned back against Sebastian’s shoulder as they rode home.
“I love you.”
He held her tighter. “When we get home, I’d very much like to hear about having a baby with you and this going into heat thing.”
He laughed. “We might have to practice a great deal before we get it right.
The baby making part, I mean.”
She didn’t care so long as she could practice with him. Closing her eyes
, she thought about little boys that looked just like their daddy, and little girls with long blonde hair. Ama knew that they would probably look nothing like she thought, but she didn’t care. She would be happy simply to have someone she would be proud to raise. And a mate to do it with.
Life was good.
