"Huzzah!" Mr. Montgomery cheered, "I do believe we have our Annie back."
Dark clouds rolled in while thunder boomed in the distance. Mr. Montgomery took off his coat and held it over Abigail's head when the first drop fell.
Shielded from the pelting rain, Abigail said to Annie, "Have Erik carry you back." She and Mr. Montgomery rushed off.
Erik had already draped his coat over Annie's shoulders and was about to pick her up when she stopped him. "Please, Erik, not yet. The rain makes me feel like I am out at sea."
Annie tucked her damp hair behind each ear. "Once my ankle is completely healed, I shall begin my adventures."
"Your adventures will be far different on land than when you were out at sea," Erik said.
Annie shot him a sly grin. "Hmm, I wonder what sort of adventures are befitting a fine lady such as myself. Whatever they are, Captain Hawke will not be disappointed."
