2. Tell us about your favorite SB position and why you enjoy it.

3. What is your favorite accessory, toy, or other equipment you have for SB use? Did you buy it or make it yourself?

4. Have you ever had a close call where you were unable to free yourself or came close to not getting free?

5. Do you have a friend or group of friends who you share your SB experience with? If so, how did this relationship develop?

6. Is there a special restraint or tie that you have developed yourself? If so, can you describe it, including how you created it and why?

7. How do you feel about SB in comparison to (a) conventional sex and (b) BDSM with one or more partners?

8. What is your gender preference while engaging in sex with a partner? For SB purposes, do you bind yourself and fantasize that you are someone else? If so, what gender do you become? Be as specific as you can. Do you fantasize about gender of the person who is bound (you), or is the experience just as yourself? [Note: we realize that this may be a very difficult question, but your answers are important to our research, so please tell us as much as you can.]

9. Have you ever injured yourself while engaged in SB? If so, please give us the details. Did the injury require medical treatment?

10. As a follow-up to earlier questions, tell us what bondage equipment you own, how you store it and, if you travel with it, how do you do so? If you have invented or developed your own special gear, tell us about it.

11. Have you ever photographed or taken videos of yourself in bondage? How did you do this and what did you do with the video or photographs? Have you ever submitted photos or videos of yourself in bondage to public forums, such as U-Tube or bondage publications? If so, what do you think was your motive for doing so?

Footnotes:

[ii]
This long chapter incorporates responses from more than a dozen participants and is a compilation of their thoughts on several commonly discussed subjects.

[iii]
Author's notes: There are perhaps some readers who find this sort of subjugated image offensive, i.e. demeaning. I suggest that this particular fantasy scenario is extremely common and also has been an almost requisite element in most modern fiction.

[iv]
"Locking the cuffs" in this case means setting the ratchet so that the cuff will not close further. It doesn't mean simply closing the cuff. Using the ratchet security lock is a debatable safety move. It keeps the cuff from getting too tight, but it also adds an extra escape step.

[v]
A set of chains with cuffs on wrists and ankles, all joined to a collar. Variations may include a waist chain and additional cuffs above the knees and elbows.
