“Well,” Matt said with a chuckle and an ironic glance.
“Looks like I can now officially welcome you into the life of black ops.”
“Well, being officially unofficial will be a nice change,”
Kelly said with a happy laugh. “I’ve been unofficially unofficial for so long.
Will be an interesting change.”
“You’re sure about this?” Matt checked with a sideways
glance. “It’s not exactly as if you’re signing a contract in blood or anything,
but I have discovered that this side of life has a tendency to suck you in
before you even know it’s happening. I’m tight with the group, and we all have
each other’s backs without question. It’s easy to get caught up in the thrill
and experience of the whole thing.”
Kelly laughed as she took his hand in hers and squeezed
their fingers together.
“You’re talking to the adrenaline junky, here,” she pointed
out. Leaning forward, she brushed a kiss to Matt’s cheek and nipped his
earlobe. “You’re sweet, and a dear, but I know what I’m signing up for. I’m
actually a bit excited. We can break into Tien’s place, maybe steal this
antidote you’re all so hot for. I’m positive I can be a big help to you all,
and besides, it will be fun. I’ve needed a new challenge lately.”
Matt exchanged a secretive grin with her.
“I was hoping that was what you’d say,” he confessed. “Let’s
go home—I bet we’ll have Julian and the others knocking on my door soon
enough.”
“Home sounds nice,” she agreed, happy thoughts of curling up
in bed next to her wizard flitting through her head.
In companionable silence, they drove back to Matt’s
apartment just as the sky began to lighten in the hour that precedes the dawn.

2002. She has been astonished by the success of her Rutledge Werewolf series,
and finds immense pleasure in hearing from her fans. To date she has more than
ten books out, a few of those even in paperback.
Elizabeth regularly goes to the gym to chew over her ideas;
