I called the vets while I waited for Kaden to return, they said that Misty was still sleeping and would let me know if anything changed. I was about to leave the house to see if Kaden wanted to go for a walk when my phone rang.

“Hello?” I frowned.

“Skylar, its Nessa, how are you?”

“Nessa, wow, I am…well…how are you?”

“Tired and busy, did I mention I am tired?”

She talked about married life overseas and about her baby, Charlie. I was genuinely pleased for her, she sounded so happy. I told her about losing my parents, then Jay. I didn’t really have that much to tell her, I wondered if I should have mentioned Kaden, but felt it was still early days and that I shouldn’t say I was seeing someone, I didn’t even know what we had anyway. Great sex, I was having great sex with a guy who likes me a lot, but can’t commit to me in any way. Saying that would make me seem weak and I wasn’t.

“I want to meet up with you and would love you to meet Charlie,” she said.

“Sounds wonderful,” I smiled. “I am pretty much free this summer, so name the day.”

“I know, how about this, we’re having Charlie baptised this weekend, please come.”

“Um, I don’t know, I am sorta seeing someone, he might have plans…”

“Bring him with you.” She said chirpily.

“I’ll ask him, what time?”

“St. Luke’s at two,” she answered.

“Okay, thank you.” I smiled nervously.

I hung up the phone again and lifted my keys before heading over to Kaden’s. As I approached I could hear music, someone was playing the guitar and it sounded beautiful. When I got to his front door, I could see him sat on the couch playing the guitar and for a few moments I just watched as he played the most beautiful, captivating music I had ever heard. He looked up after a while and stopped playing.

“Come on in,” he said. I pulled open the door.

“You said you played a little guitar, I had no idea you were so good at it,” I beamed.

“I also write a little too,” he shrugged placing his guitar into a black leather case.

“That’s pretty amazing, Kaden.” I gushed.

“Does it make you like me even more?” he asked cocking one eyebrow.

“No, because, God, I am going to sound corny here, because I don’t think I can like you more than I already do.” He stared for a few moments, did I say the wrong thing again? “Can you play that song again?” I asked.

“No, it’s not even a song yet.”

“Please,” I stepped forward and took his hand in mine, “just for me?”

He heaved a huge sigh, “Okay,” nodded and lifted the guitar. I sat on the chair as he sat back on the cream leather couch and stretched his fingers before lifting the pick. “This is something that I was just messing around with.” He said and began to play. I watched as he moved his fingers over the strings creating a song that made the hairs on my arms stand and the back of my neck tickle. It wasn’t very long and he stopped abruptly. “That’s all I have so far.”

“It’s very beautiful,” I smiled slightly. “You are so talented.”

“Thanks,” he frowned. “So, is there any news on Misty?”

“No, I called them, they said she was still sleeping. I uh, I also got a call from an old friend. She lives overseas; her husband is in the forces.”

“That’s nice,” he said. I could see he was a little distracted, but decided to ask anyway.

“Yes, we haven’t talked in a long while. So anyway, she’s having her son baptised and asked if we’d like to go.”

“Here in town?” he asked.

“Yes, the Catholic church the other side of town.” I confirmed.

“When?”

“Sunday,” I fidgeted, his tone seemed off.

“And do you want to go?”

I gazed into his eyes, “Yes, I do.”

“Do you want me to go with you?”

“Yes,” I nodded.

He thought for a few moments and stood from the couch. He placed his guitar back in its case and turned to me, “Okay, we can go, if you are sure you want me to go with you.”

I felt so relieved, “Yes, I am sure,” I beamed, “thank you.”

“Would you like a drink or something, I think I have some wine in the fridge?” he asked.

              “I don’t think I should, I do silly things when I drink.” I admitted.

He grinned, “I’d like to see that.”

“Trust me, you wouldn’t.” I sighed. “I have to think of Misty too.”

“I know, but one glass wouldn’t hurt you.” He walked towards me and pulled me up from my seat and held me against his body. “One glass, it might take your mind off things for a while.”

“Are you trying to seduce me Mr. Wright?” I smirked.

“As a matter of fact, yes I am,” he smiled and kissed me pushing his tongue into my mouth.

I’ll admit it, I was beginning to like that little dog and hated seeing her hurt after the truck had hit her. Skylar was a mess and quite understandably, so someone had to take control of the situation. I tried to keep Misty still in my lap as Skylar drove to the vets, I had nothing I could say. I couldn’t promise Skylar the dog would be okay, because I truly didn’t know. After spending one of the best nights of my life with her, I couldn’t believe that the following morning we were hit with yet more drama.

I could see the vet was trying to be nice, no one wants to hear that their dog might die, so decided to try and take her mind off it all. I left her to take a shower and changed out of my bloodied clothes. A new song I had been thinking about for a few days swirled around in my head. So I picked up my song book and wrote down some lyrics, Silver Bay had certainly changed me and my prospective of life. I arrived hell bent on ending my life and dying with dignity unlike my father, but I was actually thinking about staying a while longer, I definitely wanted to see that doctor again.

After I had worked on the lyrics I decided to try the tune on my guitar, something I hadn’t touched since I quit the band. I bought it into the house from the trunk of my car. I could hear the vacuum from inside of Skylar’s house, so she was busy for a while.

Once I began playing, everything came flooding back. I warmed up with a few songs from our last album and then began playing with the melody in my head. I wrote down the notes as they came to me, I didn’t want to forget them and I was so relieved that my hands didn’t shake once.

I could feel someone watching me, my face warmed as I realized she may have been there for a while. Of course she gushed, it was the first time I had allowed her to see the real me, the one that wasn’t trying to hide everything I was and be someone else. For the first time in months I was thinking straight without the fog that had begun to suffocate me, I was letting her in and I didn’t know if that was a good idea or not.

As I played for her, I could see the music merging with her soul, she felt it, she felt every note and I hadn’t witnessed that in a long time. Maybe I was right in taking this new approach to my music, maybe it was time to tell her a little more about me.

Asking me to her friend’s Baptism couldn’t have been easy, I am not an overly religious person, but I could see she really wanted to go and I felt I owed her at least one public date before she found out who I was and what was wrong with me. Before we could go any further I had to show her my demons, the ones I fought daily to control, she had to meet the demon known to me as MS and of course, she needed to meet Max. The man I never wanted to be again.

I asked if she wanted to go out, she agreed but wanted to change her clothes first. When she returned to my house, she was wearing a white tank with a long, white, flowing skirt and silver sandals. I took her for a drive that afternoon, I didn’t want her to think I wanted only sex from her any longer, the fact that we had a formal occasion to go public in and I didn’t have anything that would be suitable for a church event, I drove her to the mall a few cities away that I had found when she had left town for a few days.

As we walked through the busy mall I held her hand, I could do this, I could be Mr. Reliable and honest, I could be the guy she needed in her life. The time had come for me to make a decision, do I let this thing beat me or do I control it? I preferred the latter.

She helped me choose a new suit, I wanted something dark like a slate grey or black, but she insisted on a royal blue suit with a white shirt and black tie. Not something I would have bought for myself or agreed with my stylist to wear, but with my shorter hair I have to admit, it looked pretty cool.

I suggested she choose something to wear also, if I had to have new clothes, she should too. I even offered to buy her a dress, but she insisted she already had enough dresses in her wardrobe that she had never worn. We stopped for smoothies and she used her cell phone to call the vets to check on Misty. Still no change and I had nothing I could say to that.

When we got back to my house, I suggested we go for a walk along the beach after ordering something in for dinner. I could see she was worried and clearly not wanting to go into her house. So I asked if she wanted to stay at my house for the night. We ate Chinese food and as drank a couple of glasses of white wine, I sipped my coke, my symptoms were almost invisible if I stayed away from alcohol.

I took her hand once more and we walked up the deserted beach as the sun began to set. The sky was streaked with gold clouds against a lavender backdrop, the sea gulls floated close to the horizon and briefly, it disappeared, the ocean and the sky seemed to merge so that you could not see where the earth ended and the sky began.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

“Yes,” she smiled slightly, the golden sun reflected in her eyes, setting them on fire. “Are you?”

“I am just a little worried about you, and Misty of course.”

“Come on, you don’t have to pretend to like her,” she smiled again.

“I know and I am not pretending, I am not an animal person, but she is sorta growing on me.” I smiled warmly and squeezed her hand.

“The water looks amazing.” She said letting my hand go and sliding her feet out of her sandals. She hitched her skirt up to above her knees and stepped into the waves as they lapped at the shore. “It’s not even cold,” she said turning around to face me. I kicked off my shoes and stepped into the sea with her. She held out her hand. I took hold of it and joined her, the golden glow of the sun reflected on her skin making her look bronzed, with her auburn hair, she could pass for a Greek Goddess that evening, breath-taking.

“You are right, it’s not cold,” I remarked and moved behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist, I pressed my lips against her neck and felt her press against me.

She turned her face so that our lips would meet as I moved my hand under her top and rubbed my thumb along the silky smooth skin just under her breasts. I could feel she wasn’t wearing a bra and it turned me on almost instantly. She reached back with her hand and pushed it into my shorts, rubbing it over my backside and squeezing it slightly. I turned her around and pressed my lips to hers.

“We need… to stop… this,” I said between kisses.

“I… don’t… ever… want… to stop,” she said in my mouth as our tongues swept over each other. She pushed both of her hands into my shorts and squeezed my butt again.

“If we don’t,” I said pulling from her mouth, “I won’t be able to stop soon.”

“Then don’t,” she smiled and bit her bottom lip.

With that she pulled me down into the water. I kissed her and watched as she removed her white lace panties tossing them onto the sand. As she stood, her wet clothes clung to her body, her erect nipples poked through her tank and her skirt clung to her legs. I pushed my shorts off and sat on the sea bed as she sat astride on me, I didn’t even think about the fact that we didn’t have a condom, she wanted this, her heat was enticing and as I smoothed myself inside of her, the waves crashed over our bodies adding to the excitement. Thank God we were alone, because everyone could see what we were doing, she didn’t seem to mind, she moved and rocked her pelvis over me, squeezing my shoulders and pressing her breasts against my face.

I rubbed my hands over her back, squeezing at her shoulders and hair line. The salty taste from the splashing water tingled on my tongue and Skylar Reynolds tingled my soul. Her moans became louder as her orgasm broke, shortly followed by my own, it was electrifying and every nerve in my body came to life at once. It hadn’t taken long for either of us, but man, it was incredible. She kissed me as our bodies calmed allowing the water to not only wash away our juices, but to cool us down. Still connected, she gazed into my eyes,

“I am going to have a hard time letting you go at the end of the summer,” she sighed.

“Who said I was going anywhere?” I asked.

“You know what I mean. I get it, I am trying not to fall for you, Kaden, but I can’t help it. I have never felt so alive, so sexy, so satisfied. That’s what I will miss the most.” She climbed from my body and I felt the cool water wash around me. I found my shorts and pulled them on as she waded onto the sand and lifted her wet panties.

“Skylar, wait,” I called after her. She stopped walking and turned to face me.

“The way you make me feel when we make love, it’s as if I am experiencing it for the first time every time.” She explained. “No other man has ever made me feel the way you do. You make me feel like I can do anything, be anyone. I would never have done that before, but you have changed me, Kaden and I like who I am becoming, it feels like I am truly alive. ” I took her into my arms and kissed her again. Our wet clothes dripped over the sand and I didn’t care.

“You have bought me to life too,” I admitted, “with every smile, every touch and every kiss, I wake up just a little bit more.” Her eyes filled with tears, “Don’t cry,” I sighed pressing my hand to the side of her face.

“I can’t help it, I am falling in love with you, Kaden, can’t you see that? I am doing the very thing I have fought against, it’s a battle I can’t win and I know you don’t feel that way about me, but I think it’s only fair that I tell you the truth.”

She pulled from my arms and began to walk towards our houses, “Skylar, wait.” I chased after her. She stopped again, I took hold of her hands, even though her white panties were screwed up in one of them, “You want to know something? I am falling for you too, you make me a better person and you have given me a reason to live, no woman has ever made me feel the way I feel with you and I know I could go to a hundred beaches and screw a hundred girls, but none of them would ever compare. You are a special lady and slowly but surely, you are stealing my heart.”  She smiled slightly, “Come on, let’s go back to my place and finish what we’ve started.”

While she changed out of her wet clothes in my bedroom, I lit some candles and placed them on the deck. I placed the cushions from the loungers on the floor of the deck and bought out some of the throws from the living room. I poured her a glass of wine and waited for her.

Wearing my Metallica t-shirt she emerged from my room and smiled humbly. “That looks good on you,” I admired knowing she was naked underneath.

“It’s all I could find, you really need to do some laundry.” She smiled. “This looks so pretty.” She said gazing around, she lifted her glass to her lips and sipped the wine. I removed my wet shorts and shirt and sat down on the cushions. She joined me and as we lay down together, she pulled my t-shirt over her head and threw it on the floor.

Above us a million stars studded the deep blue sky, the silver moon beamed down on Silver Bay and as we made slow and passionate love to each other that night again and again, I fell for her utterly and completely.

I woke at the squawking coming from the beach. Smothered in a silver mist, I couldn’t see where the noise was coming from. In my arms, unbelievably warm and cosy slept Skylar. Her shoulder peeped out from beneath the sheet covering our bodies and I couldn’t resist kissing it and drinking in her scent as I always seemed to do. She smiled with her eyes still closed,

“Morning,” I said to her.

“No, I don’t want it to be morning,” she pouted playfully.

“Open your eyes,” I smiled. She opened her amazing blue eyes and gazed into mine, “Did you sleep well?”

She wrinkled her nose, “Well, my ass is kinda numb and my legs feel like I have ran a marathon, aside from that, I guess I slept amazingly well, thank you.”

“It’s a shame your ass is numb,” I grinned as I moved towards her pink lips, “although, I am sure it won’t take much to bring it back to life.”

“Sounds great, Kaden,” she smiled and sat up, “but not until I have at least had a shower or a bath.”

“Only if I can join you,” I said raising my eyebrows.

“Let me use the bathroom and I will start the water,” she said standing and wrapping one of the throws around her insanely beautiful, naked body.

I didn’t even know if my bath tub would fit us both in since I had never used it before. I was surprised to discover that we did in fact fit with ample room enough to move around in as well. I decided that sex in the water had to be my favourite. The feel of her slick skin against mine drove me absolutely crazy with desire and literally made me ache.

After, as she removed her nails from my back, I wondered if she had drawn blood this time, the scratches actually stung in the water.

“I am so sorry,” she said as she rubbed her hands gently over the sore patches. “It’s just um, I either scratch you or bite you.”

“Oh, well I draw the line at biting, unless I’m the one who is actually biting.” I smiled.

“You just drive me wild,” she admitted.

“That’s a good thing though, right?”

“Right,” she beamed. “So, I should go and call the vet and check on Misty.”

“I’ll shave and then I will make you something to eat.” I stated as she climbed from the water. White foam suds rolled down her back and over the rump of her backside and if she hadn’t have covered up, I think I would have tried to take her again.
