“Fuck me running, you’re gorgeous. I am so not worthy, but I’ll be damned if I don’t take what the gods have given me,” he growled.

Staring up at the gorgeous man with the dark red hair and sparkling green eyes, sure she was the one who was given the gift. Of course, looking farther down, she worried he was too big. When she’d seen other men, it hadn’t been something she was looking at. LeeLee actually thought she was broken and would forever be stuck in her animal form. Now, staring up at her mate, for she knew that was what he was, she couldn’t imagine her life without him. Her breath caught in her throat. Fear swamped her. Old uncertainties rose up. What if he didn’t think she was good enough? Her own parents hadn’t thought she was, and could care less if she lived or died, that much she remembered.

The bed dipped, and Slater was leaning over her. “Hey, what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours?”

She couldn’t tell him. “I’ve…I don’t know what you expect.” That much was true.

His head bent, a whisper of air wafted over her lips as he stared into her eyes. “We will only do what you want. Go as far as you want. If you want me to get dressed…well, I’ll have to will some new clothes on.” He winked, making her laugh.

“No. I mean, I want to be with you in every way a man and woman can be. I just need you to, you know. Lead,” she said baldly.

“I’ll go slow. If at any time you want me to stop, I will.”

He’d wait an eternity then.

With their eyes locked, he lowered his head, brushing his lips over hers, then trailing kisses down her neck. He licked a spot behind her ear that had her arching off the bed. The sweet man continued his journey. His tongue brushed along her breasts, teasing the tips, then sucking one into his mouth. LeeLee swore lights exploded all around them. It was better than amazing.

The torment continued to the other breast, sucking a little harder, making her shift on the soft bedding arching her back, forcing more of her flesh into his warm mouth.

He released the hardened tip with a pop. “Demanding little thing,” he grunted, his pupils dilated.

Her face had to be bright red from embarrassment, but then he was moving farther down the bed. His intent clear. She curled her fingers into the bedding next to her thighs, trying to hold still.

“Good girl. I’m going to taste you now.”

Arousal flooded her, the words made her completely aware of her own body.

Slater looked up, his green eyes held hers while he placed a kiss on top of her bare mound. She jerked, but his large hands held her down.

He trailed his tongue along the crease shielding her from him. Goddess, she didn’t think she’d survive if he put his tongue on her.

Body shaking, she waited. Her eyes closed on a soft moan as he parted her with his thumbs, tongue sliding between her thighs. Ecstasy shot through her at the first wet touch. Moisture seeped from her, perfuming the air.

Slater sucked in a deep breath, then bent to her glistening flesh. Her scent was like an elixir to him, drawing him closer, making him need more. He used his thumbs to open her up for him. The feel of his heart beating against his chest reminded him of his first time, only this time he’d make it last longer. He wanted to spend hours worshipping his mate.

Gently, he probed her with his tongue, swirling it along the plump flesh and growling at the taste. A little further down, he swirled around the opening to her body, then pushed inside as far as he could go, feeling her pussy muscles flex around him. With his superior strength, he held her hips down with his forearms, then moved, wrapping under and around her slim thighs, he feasted, groaning while she moaned. Damn, he hadn’t even given her clit the attention it was begging for and she was ready to come.

The feel of her fingers tugging on his hair, the slight sting only increasing
his own pleasure. Sweeping his tongue up, he tickled the swollen flesh, nearly grinning at her gasp.

“Oh my damn, Slater.” Her voice had gone husky and breathless. She tried to move her hips, but he held her down.

He freaking loved how she tasted, and wondered if he could bottle the flavor. The thought that he could spend hours between her thighs, licking, sucking and devouring everything she had to give flittered through his mind.

“I wouldn’t survive,” she whispered.

Slater looked up. “You heard that, or did I say it out loud?”

“I don’t know, but either way, I need you in me.”

He wanted to be in her body too, but she was tight. He trailed a finger through her juices, then with his eyes trained on hers, pressed it inside her. She nearly bucked him off, sizzles of electricity shot from her to him, making his already swollen cock feel as if her hand was stroking it.

Lowering his head once more he sucked her clit into his mouth, feasting while he pumped the digit inside her, then added a second. The walls of her sheath pulsed, telling him she was near the edge. With one hand holding her down, he pressed a third in next to the other two, then sucked on the swollen bud. He found that spongy wall within her, and stroked his fingers against it. The dual stimulation sent her into a hard and fast orgasm. One he was determined to let her ride out before he claimed her.

Her low long moan reached his ears just as her juices flooded his mouth. Goddess, he could get drunk on her. Lightly, he continued to tongue her until she came down, waiting until her body relaxed against the sheets.

“Damn, that was almost as good as fucking,” he swore staring into her crystal blue eyes.

She let out a deep exhale. “That was…amazing.”

His wolf wanted to howl, but the man was in too much of a hurry to claim their mate. Moving slowly, he eased up her body, letting her get used to his weight. “You ready for more?”

Her body shivered beneath him. “More than anything.”

He levered up on one elbow then used his other hand to rub the tip of his cock against her entrance. Back and forth he coated himself with her cream before he entered the snug depths. He had to stop and take a deep breath, reminding himself not to thrust to the hilt out of fear of hurting her. He thanked the Goddess he’d gotten her off before, sure he wasn’t going to last long once he was seated fully inside.

“Hurry,” she whispered.

Another inch slipped inside, but he refused to be rushed. “Slowly, love. I don’t want to hurt you.”

He pulled back and thrust a little more. Sweat pooled between his shoulder blades. While he was trying to slow down, she was trying to hurry him, lifting up, taking more of him.

A flare of pain ripped across her face, making him freeze. “Are you okay?”

She panted. “Give me a minute.”

Instinct took over, and he reached between their bodies, finding the little pleasure point at the top of her mound. The startled movement of her hips had him thrusting a little further, but she relaxed into the bed, pleasure washing over her face. Love for this woman threatened to overwhelm him. His body trembled from the exertion he put on it holding still until she’d accepted more of him. Finally, he was seated to the hilt, like she was made just for him.

“Are you okay?” He ran his thumb in a circular motion around her clit.

“Yes. Please move, Slater.” She lifted against him.

He obliged, stroking into her slowly. He’d have grinned if he wasn’t using all his control to keep from spilling his seed. Setting up a slow rocking motion, they moved together in perfect unison as if they had done the same thing a thousand times before.

Her pants were echoed by his, and then she was lifting up into him harder, demanding more with her body. “More,” she moaned, nails raking his back.

They were both close, their movements became more frantic, quickening as he and she raced toward pleasure. He was sure the moment would be too soon, yet not soon enough. Slamming into her, over and over while her body squeezed his dick, her breathy pants of more echoed in his ear.

“Come for me. With me, love,” he bent his head into the curve of her neck, taking in her scent. The moment pleasure crashed over him, he sank his teeth into the tender flesh. Her howl matched his in his mind, and then she bit him. His body had a mind of its own, thrusting faster, harder until he gave her everything he had. His spine tingled from ecstasy unparalleled, shooting straight through to his cock and back again. Wave after wave of sensation arced through him and into his mate, extending the pleasure.

By the time he was completely spent, his entire being trembled. He wasn’t sure how he’d kept from falling on top of the slight figure of LeeLee, but with great effort he held most of his weight on his forearms, knowing he was still too heavy.

“I’m never letting you go,” he mumbled against the healing wound on her neck.

She licked him where she’d bitten him. “Good,” she said, her hands moved in a soothing motion up and down his back. “Will it always be so…”

He looked down into the most beautiful face in all the realms, and saw true wonder in her expression. She made him feel like a king. Her lips kicked up in a grin.

“Only with you. And only with me,” he warned.

He made to roll but her arms and legs tightened around him. “Don’t leave me.”

“Never.” He meant it. He’d never leave her. “I was going to roll so I wasn’t crushing you.”

Her eyes glowed. “I like you on top.”

He too was pleased right where he was. “I’m too heavy, and besides, there are many other positions, love.” Using his strength, he rolled, taking her with him until she was lying on top, his dick still firmly ensconced inside her tight sheath.

“Oh,” she exclaimed.

Oh indeed. She made him feel alive for the first time. He’d only thought he was alive, but lying with LeeLee on top of him, he realized he’d only been half a man. Her unusual eyes glittered with joy and happiness. A sight he silently promised he’d make sure she would always have.

LeeLee ran her finger over his lips. “What are you thinking so hard about?”

Her soft touch felt good, but he realized she was waiting on an answer. “I was wondering if you were up for another round.” He lifted her up and pulled her back down, watching her face for any sign of pain.

A sly grin crossed her lips. “I think I can handle you.”

His body, already hard beneath hers, hardened further. Slater pulled her down, sealing their lips together, wrapping his arms around her and held her, never wanting to let her go.

Their loving was slow and gentle, and when they came, her entire form glowed, almost incandescent in its beauty. He knew without a shadow of a doubt he’d kill for LeeLee.

LeeLee yawned, and he settled her against his side. “You’ll be here when I wake up, right?”

The uncertainty had him pulling her closer. “I’ll be here when you take your last breath and beyond, love.”

She rubbed her face against him. With her lying next to him, he felt complete for the first time in all his years. He, who’d thought he lived the fullest life, and had no regrets, would have gladly gone against a blade for one of his brothers, now had something to live for. His heart beat a hard staccato. He’d do anything, be anything to ensure her safety above all others.

“Thank you for saving me, Slater,” she murmured. Her body going lax and he knew she was almost asleep.

“I’ll always save you,” he assured her.

He held LeeLee for hours after she fell asleep, worry plagued him she may never shift into her wolf, and if she did, could she shift back into human. Hell, when did his fun life become so damn complicated?

She shifted against him, and he vowed to make sure no matter what happened, his LeeLee would be safe and whole.

Chapter Five

LeeLee stretched, feeling wonderfully sore and chilly. The last part gave her pause. Slater had kept her warm all night with his body heat, but now she was cold. Opening her eyes, she saw him walking out of the bathroom gloriously naked. His big, muscled body remarkably graceful. She loved to watch him move. She wanted to trace the tattoos on his body with her tongue, and taste him like he’d done to her the night before.

“Good morning. I didn’t mean to wake you.” The bed dipped as he sat next to her.

She smiled at him. “I got cold.” She shivered for effect.

A knock on the door stopped whatever he was going to do or say.

“Yoo-hoo, are you two done with the bonking? I can come back later,” Jenna said, humor lacing her voice.

With a shake of her head, LeeLee kissed Slater’s arm. “I don’t think she’ll go away if we keep quiet. Do you?”

He grinned. “If I was a betting man, I’d say no,” he whispered.

“You’d be right. Now, come on. You both need to eat if you’re gonna keep up with the baby practice.”

Slater bit his lip to keep from laughing, but she felt heat rise over her entire being.

“I knew it. You look gorgeous this shade of pink.” Slater tugged the sheet off of her, making her gasp.

“Ten minutes,” Jenna yelled through the closed door.

LeeLee fell back onto the bed with a chuckle.

“Damn it woman, how the hell am I supposed to turn down what’s on offer,” Slater said, pouncing on her with a smile.

“Ever heard of a quickie?” She asked, loving the heaviness of having him on top of her.

He bent his head, feathering his lips over hers. “You deserve so much more than that. And, I have a feeling that Jenna will be back banging on the door, just as I’m banging you.”

Sighing, she wrapped her legs and arms around him. “You sure?”

“You could tempt a saint to sin, love.”

The tip of his cock rubbed against her, and then she heard pots and pans banging.

Slater groaned and rested all his weight on her. She smiled up at him, watching his brows pull together.

“Come on, let’s go eat, then we can come back and I’ll feast on your body.”

She didn’t know why she was so hesitant to leave the sanctuary of the bedroom. A sense of doom, or an unknown intuition told her the world as she knew it, was going to turn topsy turvy.

Letting her arms and legs drop, she wrinkled her nose. “Let’s go then.”

He stood in one fluid motion. “I think we should get dressed first, or I won’t be able to focus on anything except you and your delectable body.”

Her eyes looked at his very delicious body and silently agreed. They both dressed in a hurry.

As they stepped into the hallway, she was blown away by the wonderful smells wafting in from what she assumed was the kitchen. Being a shifter, she’d always been able to ferret out food sources, but in her human form, she didn’t think she’d be as good. However, her nose and belly led them directly to where Jenna and one of the women from the day before were.

“There you two are. Come and sit before it gets cold.”

Fluffy biscuits were piled on a plate and a thick white gravy with sausage sat in the middle. Another bright colored Loch Ness
shaped ladle stuck out of the pot. She’d never had fresh, warm, biscuits and gravy before. Always getting scraps. Her stomach rumbled, and moisture pooled in her mouth at the thought of the first taste.

It took her a moment to realize she had been standing in the same place, and had to shake her head to clear it. “Do you need any help?” she croaked.

Jenna glanced up. “Only for you to sit down.” Waving her hand toward the table, LeeLee took a seat.

The antique piece of furniture was made of dark wood and was obviously old. LeeLee felt a hundred souls reaching out to her as they sat and ate.

“You feel them?” Jenna pointed her fork toward LeeLee.

Slater’s head swung toward her. “Who do you feel?”

“Not as in I hear actual words so much as I feel them. It’s hard to describe. How am I able to speak and know things like a regular person? I was only a child when I turned into my wolf. I don’t even have a high school education.” She asked instead of answering Slater, knowing Jenna would have answers for her.

“Ah, I think you don’t give yourself enough credit. Weren’t you smarter than the average six year old?” Jenna’s gaze caught and held hers.

She swallowed. Memories of her life before her time on all fours were filtering into her mind.

“My mom thought something was wrong with me because I read too early, she said.” The painful reminder made her flinch at the harsh words beating at her brain. The feel of her hair being pulled to where she was sure it was all going to come out, rushed to the front. “I tried to pretend like I couldn’t do so well, but at six years old things slipped out.”

The warm hand twining with hers brought her back to the present.

“I have a theory, which I think your father knew as well as your mother. You were not his child, but a product of an affair. Who that affair was with is what I’d like to know.”

LeeLee looked across the table at Jenna and Nalina, seeing knowledge etched on both their features. “Who do you think it was?” The question came out a hoarse whisper.

“A Fey. When we healed you, I felt a kinship. Although I believe the man she had an affair with only had a little bit of Fey blood, it was enough that mixed with your shifter blood, it made you more. Something that your mom couldn’t hide. Of course, the fact you were born with fire engine red hair might have been a red flag. Pun intended.”

Excitement that she might have family out in the world filled her. “Do you know who he was?”

Jenna paused a moment before answering. “No, sweetheart, I don’t. Although if I ever came across him I’d know in an instant.”

“Maybe if we go back to where you used to live, someone around there will remember a red haired man, or hell, we can go knocking on all the doors looking for one,” LeeLee joked.

Jenna beamed. “That is a fantastic idea.

Her head turned to the Fey. “Are you going with us?”

“I’ll only be a holler away.” Jenna tapped her head.

Slater raised his hand. “If we are looking for a man with red hair.” He pointed at his head.

“He has a point,” Nalina said. “Red hair isn’t that uncommon you know.”

“You misunderstand. We are talking about bright red hair. LeeLee’s wolf was an extraordinarily red wolf, which should have been a red flag,” Jenna laughed. “I can’t help it. There are just too many puns to be said. I was going to say red herring, but was sure that was taking it too far.”

LeeLee looked at Slater, seeing the grin on his too handsome face, and broke into a fit of giggles. The laughter felt good, a release of the stress she’d held inside.

“When do you want to leave?” Slater asked once they’d all sobered up.

“I can get you close to where I believe the home in your memories was,” Jenna said, her even tone had LeeLee looking closely at her face.

“You don’t think that’s a good idea?”

Shrugging, the Fey turned her face up toward the ceiling. “I am not sure what you will find, or who. I hate the thought of you being disappointed.”

She wanted to tell Jenna there was no greater disappointment than watching your family turn their backs on you as a child, yet she kept her mouth shut. Fate could be a fickle thing, and the very last thing she wanted to do was shake that tree.

“You are a very wise young woman, LeeLee. Very wise indeed.” Jenna reached her hand across the table, a zing of electricity went into her. “Remember, I’m only a holler away.”

Swallowing against the sudden lump in her throat, LeeLee nodded. “Let’s do this.”

“I forgot to mention something else.” Jenna looked around uncomfortably.

Her hand reached for Slater’s beneath the table. His warmth soothed her frayed nerves. Whatever she heard, they’d face together.

“Go on, tell us,” Slater growled.

“Remember how I told you time moved differently here?” Jenna tapped her finger in a slow beat, drawing their eyes to the spot she pointed at. The old scarred wood looked to be hundreds of years old.

LeeLee nodded.

“Well, when you left your human time, it was Christmas. By my estimates, it’s almost Halloween now.” Her bald statement had Slater and LeeLee gasping.

“What the fuck, Jenna. I have a job. What about my family and friends? How about Keanu and Cammie?”

“The healing and getting LeeLee back to her human form took a lot out of me. I apologize I was not more on point. I’ll have Nalina see you out.” Her chair scraped backward.

Jumping to her feet, LeeLee couldn’t let the woman who saved her life go. “Jenna, please don’t go. I don’t care if it was next Christmas or ten later. I owe you for restoring my humanity. Please, don’t go.” She choked back tears.

“I’m truly sorry. Please forgive me.” Slater came around the table, putting his arm around Jenna’s shoulder. “You did exactly what was needed, and for that I owe you my eternal gratitude, not my dipshit attitude. I’m sure my family and friends will understand, and my job…well, I can get another one.”

“Don’t worry so much, Slater.” A frown creased Jenna’s smooth brow. “Let’s get you two out of here. I have things to tend to.”

She wasn’t sure if she was ready to face her past, yet knowing that was the only way to move forward, she nodded. “Let’s do this.”

From one moment to the next she and Slater were in Jenna’s kitchen, then they stood outside a small quaint looking little town.

“Damn, I hate that.” Slater gave a full body shiver.

“Where are we?” Looking around the area, nothing looked familiar.

“I wish we had a set of wheels,” he said instead of answering, reaching for her hand and linked their fingers. “Let’s go. Remember, you’re not alone.”

His gentle reminder eased the ache in her heart.

****

Slater held the slim hand of his mate, wishing like hell they had more information to go on other than a red haired man. Damn! He hated the feel of her racing pulse beneath his palm, but knew nothing he said or did would calm her, except finding answers.

They entered the little town and he was amazed to find all the shops packed with a multitude of tourists. A huge celebration for the annual All Hallows Eve Festival, for the coming weekend, was announced on decorations and signs in every window and post they passed. Clearly the town loved Halloween, and this was a tradition not to be missed.

“Do you remember this being a huge holiday when you were a kid?” He asked looking down as LeeLee took in the sights, immediately wishing he could call back the words.

“It’s okay, Slater.” She tried to smile, but he could tell it was forced.

He noticed a bear of a man hurrying toward them, a scowl on his face. Without thinking he pulled LeeLee closer, moving them both out of the path of the large man. The scent of shifter hit him as the being passed, but the other man was focused on whoever he was talking to as he walked by. The other man didn’t have the familiar smell of LeeLee, so he dismissed him. Their coloring was off, and if they’d been pack he’d have set off some trigger in Slater or LeeLee.

“Come on, let’s find a place to stay for the weekend festivities. I think we’ll find our answers during the celebration.”

“What about clothes and money? I know as a wolf I didn’t need any of that, but I’m pretty sure in this skin we are going to need it.” She stopped walking, anxiety making her voice husky.

He tapped her nose. “Yee of little faith.” He extracted his wallet, showing her his credit cards and cash.

Her smile lit up her face. “Does this mean I get to go shopping?”

Fuck, his dick got hard thinking of her in a dressing room as she slipped out of her clothes and him helping her try on new ones. Yeah, he probably shouldn’t entertain that fantasy. Nodding, he slipped his wallet back inside his back pocket. “Yes, ma’am. Would you like to look around first, or get a room?”

She licked her lips, then looked up and down the sidewalk. “Maybe we should get a couple things first. It might look strange if we check in without any luggage.”

He was constantly surprised by her knowledge of the human world, which he shouldn’t have been. She’d only been living in her wolf form, but had been conscious as a human. There were so many things he wanted to ask her, but held his tongue. When they mated fully, he’d have all his answers. They’d already begun the process, exchanging one bite. He wondered if she was aware. Damn, he needed to have a talk with her. The last thing he wanted was an unwilling mate.

They walked past a little shop selling handmade jewelry, which seemed to catch LeeLee’s eyes. “Let’s go see what they have.”

He held the door open for an older woman as she walked out, then he and LeeLee entered. The older woman paused next to them, a shawl covered her from head to toe, but he saw a wrinkled hand reach out to touch his mate’s hair. An instinct had him moving between the two. He smiled down at the woman, unable to see her face. His own smile was forced while he waited for the woman to acknowledge him. She turned on her feet and exited, the bell above the door jingled.
