He studies me for a moment, and nods. “I’ll make time. Someone will come get you when it’s time.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re most welcome, Wayne. Just keep making my daughter smile like she is right now, and I won’t throw you in the dungeon.”

I think he’s kidding, but I know they do indeed have a dungeon. I manage to get out a nervous chuckle as I walk away. So far, things are going great. But there’s more I have planned for this day, and I need that to go smoothly as well. Knowing us, it probably won’t, but one can always hope.

Wayne stays near the line while I greet everyone else. After the first hour, I ask someone to take him a water. He tips it towards me with a smile, and waits another hour for me to get done. Once everyone has gone through the line, I walk over to him. We have a little bit of time, and I’ve instructed my guards to keep people away for us while we talk. I’m excited and nervous at the same time.

“You didn’t have to wait here for me.”

“I wanted to see you, see that you’re real, and this isn’t just another dream.”

“I pinched myself a few times,” I admit.

We just stand and smile at each other. He starts to reach for my hand, but stops. “May I hold your hand, Jeny?”

“You don’t have to ask me to do that.”

“Yes, I do,” he says, laces his fingers through mine.

I realize what he’s doing, making sure he has my consent. “You don’t need to ask for things like holding my hand, or putting your arm around me, or kissing me. Honestly, you don’t have to ask for anything. You just need to stop if I ask you to. I don’t anticipate that happening very often, but that’s all I need from you.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, and thank you for this,” I say, squeezing his hand. “I appreciate you asking.”

“I don’t want there to ever be a question again about my respect for you. Consent and respect go hand in hand, and I want to make sure you know I understand that, and I won’t screw it up again.”

“I know you won’t. You know you have the same rights as well, right? You can tell me to stop, and I will. Consent isn’t just for women.”

“Yeah, I know it doesn’t get talked about a lot, but when I was looking stuff up, I saw that.”

“You looked stuff up?” I ask, my smile growing even wider, because I know he did that for me, to make sure he didn’t do something wrong again.

“I talked to Reina, too. I didn’t go into details, but when I talked to Sonia, I told her I’d done something I was sorry for.”

“You talked to her? I’m so glad, for both of you.”

“I saw Chad, too. We talked with our fists, though.”

“What?” I look him over, but don’t see any bruises.

“Kenny fixed me up,” he says, laughing. “I know you were thinking I should look pretty bad. I
did
look bad, but it was worth getting my ass kicked. What he and his friends did to you…I-I…you didn’t have to do that for me.”

“I didn’t have to, but I wanted to. Even if you never talked to me again, I wasn’t going to let you rot in jail while he went free.”

“I appreciate that, and I wanted to go into that room and punch the bastard a few times. For all of us. Mostly you, but I hit him for me and Sonia, too.”

“That’s pretty hot.”

“If you’d seen me, you wouldn’t have thought so.”

“Oh, I’m pretty sure I would’ve.”

“Yeah, well, if you don’t mind, I was kind of hoping you’d protect me until I’ve taken at least a few lessons at C&C.”

“Well, I
am
a fierce Warrior Princess.”

“You so are, and that’s legit hot.”

“We have to go eat lunch in a minute.”

“I know.”

“There will be food…and me.”

“My dick just got impossibly hard hearing you say those words. I’ll behave, though. Somehow. I don’t know how honestly. But, I’ll do it.”

I laugh hard, and then kiss him again. This time it’s longer than the last. He places his hands on my hips, keeping us a few inches apart, which is good because I just want to wrap my legs around his hips, and go for a ride.

I want us to get back to being like we’ve always been, preferably with me tied to some piece of furniture, and him bossing me around. Even warrior princesses need an alpha male in the bedroom sometimes, or at least this one does.

I hear the camera clicks, followed by the requests from the photographers, so I pull my lips away from him, reluctantly. “We should probably give them a posed picture, or two.”

“Our first posed picture together for the press.”

“But not our last.”

“Most definitely not.”

We turn, arms around each other, and pose. My lipstick is smeared, but I’m sure there will be no picture anywhere of me where I look happier than I do right now. We still have a few things to talk about, and that won’t be so easy at lunch with other people around, but the most important things have been said already. We love each other, and we want to be together.

“Princess Jenysis needs to be seated for lunch,” one of the palace press people tells them after a few minutes.

“Thank you,” I tell her, taking Wayne’s hand again as we walk inside.

“It looks like we have our own table,” he says when we clear the entrance.

I stop short, and watch as Brayden, Darcy, Tegan, and Stella put the finishing touches on a table for two on the stage. We’ll be in full view of everyone, but we’ll also have the privacy we need to talk.

“Did you have something to do with this?”

“Nope. I have some surprises up my sleeve, but this isn’t one of them.”

“Our friends are awesome.”

“Agreed.”

We take the stage, and hug everyone before Wayne holds my chair out for me. There are covered plates in front of us, but protocol dictates that no one eat until my father does. We have a few minutes until he’ll arrive, so I lean on my hand to hide my mouth from the onlookers, and dive right in to one of the things we still need to discuss.

“Just because someone has a moment of doubt, it doesn’t mean they don’t believe in the other person.”

He hangs his head. “I know.”

“Do you? Because I can’t promise that I’ll never question anything in our relationship.”

“I know.”

“Are you going to say anything else?” I ask, not hiding my frustration. Things were going so well outside.

He looks up at me. “I want you to question me, and challenge me. It means you care about my choices and what I’m doing. I fucked up when I told you to go, and said…those other things. I’m sorry I was such a bastard, because I was obviously questioning you as well.”

“Thank you, but you know it wasn’t you being angry that hurt me the most. It’s what you said about Tegan and Alesha. You took my insecurities and slammed them right into my chest. I have felt second to Tegan for such a long time, and she made me think I wasn’t, but then you did that.”

“What I did was inexcusable, and I’m owning it. Alesha is a non-issue, especially now that we know she’s batshit crazy.”

“I heard about that.”

“Yeah, well, she wouldn’t be an issue anyway. As for Teeg, she told me at the barbeque what you’d said to her, and I revealed an insecurity of mine to her. I planned to tell you as well, but things got away from us.”

“About why you always greet her first?”

“Yes. I always used to go to her first because I was afraid you’d turn me away. You were so adamant for so long that we couldn’t do anything more than fuck each other, and I pretended to go along with it, but it hurt me. I was willing to take whatever you would give me, but I always wanted to take posed pictures with you. At every gala, concert, function, and anywhere else. You wouldn’t do that with me, and so I went to the person I knew would hug me, even if a camera was around.”

I cover my mouth in horror as tears spring to my eyes. Pictures of us have always been leaked, but I knew it bothered him when I wouldn’t walk into an event with him. I thought it was a small thing, but it wasn’t, and because of my selfish behavior, I ended up hurting us both.

“Oh, don’t cry, baby. It’s all good now. I just wanted you to know it was always you I wanted to hug first. Always.”

“Will you walk me into the party tonight?”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Like, a real date?”

“Exactly like that.”

“Yes, I would love to be your date tonight.”

“You know you’re staying over too, right? In my room?”

“I was hoping you’d say that. You know how much I love your room, especially that nice, big princess bed of yours.”

“Be a good date, and I might let you tie me up in it again.”

“Yes, please.”

“I’ve missed you so much, and I want…no I
need
you to boss me around, tie me up, and then cuddle me in your arms while you tell me you love me.”

“Oh, don’t you worry. I’m going to be the best date you’ve ever had. Escorting, dancing, tying, bossing…anything and everything you want is yours, Jeny girl.”

I have no doubt about that. He’s the best of everything for me, and I can’t wait to be on his arm, and in bed with him tonight. And every other night. Forever.

“Stop fidgeting, Wayne, because so help me God, if you wrinkle that suit before your pictures, I’m going to punch you.”

“Don’t hold back, Stell,” I tell her, but I do stand up straight. I want to look good tonight.

“You’re acting like this is your first date. Wait a minute, this
is
your first date with Jen, isn’t it?”

“Yes, and it needs to be perfect.”

“Well, you’re not in the hospital this year,” Kace says, reminding me of when I agreed to take part in the polo match last year. I was thrown from my horse almost immediately, and had to be rushed to hospital because I broke my leg.

“At least I tried.”

“Only because you wanted Jen to sleep with you that night. Didn’t work out the way you wanted, did it?”

“She still slept with me.” She cuddled in my hospital bed after she went to the evening party. It was one of the best nights of my life, actually.

“When are they coming to take you to the King?” Brett asks.

“Soon.”

The knock on the door lets me know it’s sooner than I thought. I open the door, nod to the guard, and walk in front of him to Steve’s study. I make sure I follow protocol in public, but I get to call him by his first name when it’s just us. Or at least I used to be able to. Maybe I’ll just stick with “sir” for now.

The guard leaves me with the two outside the study. One opens the door, and motions me in. Steve is standing by the windows, but he smiles as I walk in. “Please have a seat.”

“Thank you, sir.”

“Unless I’m mistaken, we’re having this meeting because I’m Jen’s father, and not because I’m the King.”

“Um, well, I think it’s both.”

“Are you asking what I think you’re asking?”

“I believe I am.”

“What you did for that girl, defending her against your fans, that was very honorable.”

“It was the right thing to do.”

“I walked into the kitchen last week to find my daughter eating every dessert in the palace. I watched her alternate between crying into pints of ice cream, and refusing to eat. It nearly did me in, Wayne. I’d heard about things like that, but to see it, and know there is nothing you can do, is heartbreaking.”

“So that’s a no, then.”

“Not necessarily. My daughter found herself in all of this. She finally knows how remarkable she is. I won’t thank you for that, but I find myself thinking you both needed what happened. Certainly not the rape allegations, but the challenges. While you were sleeping together these past two years, you had no major conflicts. You needed one to show that you are more than just casually dating.”

“I was never casual with her, Steve.”

“I know that as well. No one has ever made my daughter as happy as you have, and I doubt anyone else could. I believe you love her, and will let her save you as much as you save her, because you know she’s more than capable of it.”

“Warrior Princess.”

“Yes, and that’s my answer to you Wayne. Yes.”

“Thank you. I promise you I’ll live up to the faith you’re showing me.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from you. So, tonight?”

“Tonight.”

“Brilliant.”

I leave his study, and walk upstairs to Jeny’s room. She answers my knock with a smile. “Right on time.”

My throat is dry, and I don’t know how to say what I want to say. “Wow.”

Her red hair is up in a retro ponytail thing, and her dress is showcasing her curves, even though it’s not really tight. It’s black, and has some sheer stuff, and some beading, and yeah, that’s all I know right now, because she’s too beautiful for words. She’s always beautiful, but tonight it’s like she’s glowing just for me.

“You can pick your chin up off the floor, hot stuff. It’s just a dress.”

“I can’t wait to see what you have on for me underneath.”

“Anything I have on underneath is for me.”

“We can play it that way, but you know how much I love your colors and prints.”

“Yes, I know, and okay, my lingerie can be for both of us.”

“Excellent.”

I hold out my arm, and she takes it. At the top of the stairs, we have to wait to be announced. The photographers go crazy, and it’s a good thing I’m used to the flashes, or I’d be tripping down the stairs. As it is, I have to concentrate on not tripping since I can’t look down.

At the bottom of the stairs, we turn left, and enter the formal ballroom. “We’re in front, right?” I whisper.

“Yes.”

I lead her to the chair she indicates, seeing the place cards on the table now. Once we’re seated, people start to come over. They congratulate her on the day, compliment her on her dress, and just grab a few moments because they can. She makes herself readily available to the people of her country, but you’re more likely to find her with the shopkeepers than the social climbers. It’s one of the many things I love about her.

We stand for Steven, and then we eat. Or at least everyone else does. I think I might throw up if I eat. I’m way too nervous about the rest of the night.

“What’s wrong?” Jeny asks me.

“Huh? Oh, I’m just not hungry.”

“Did you eat something after the match?”

“No.”

“Then why aren’t you hungry?”

She places the back of her hand on my forehead, but I pull it away. “I’m not sick.”

“Something’s wrong if you’re not eating.”

I was going to wait until later, when we were dancing, but I decide to just go for it. I set my napkin on the table, and drop to one knee next to her chair.

“What’s wrong is that you don’t have my ring on your finger yet. I know things were a little rocky recently, but I hope you know how committed I am to you, and to us. I love you more than my first guitar, Jenysis. I’ll spend the rest of my life showing you that. Will you marry me?”

I hold out the 12-carat sapphire ring with diamond accents. I bought it from a vintage store, and I know she’ll love it. If she decides to wear it, that is.

“That guitar is your most prized possession.”

“It is.”

“I love you more than my first sword, so yes, I’ll marry you. Now put that ring on my finger.”

I slide it on, and pull her to her feet with me. As we’re about to kiss, Lord Dick pushes me back from her. “You cannot do that. You can’t just ask a princess to marry you.”

“I believe I just did, Dick.”

“My name is Richard.”

“Sure, whatever.”

“As I was saying, there is protocol that must be followed. She can’t simply marry you.”

Steve answers for me. “He has followed all the protocol that is necessary. Wayne met with me, and asked me for her hand. I agreed as both her father, and as the King of Cyndryann.”

“He’s a commoner, and a rapist.”

“Do you want me to borrow another sword, Dick? Call my fiancé a rapist again, and see if I don’t cut you this time.”

“Wayne was cleared of all charges, and you need to leave. I gave you a second chance to prove yourself, but you have shown that you are not worthy of an invitation to my palace. The guards will show you out, and will also shoot you if you ever try to return,” Steve tells him. God, I love my future father-in-law.

“Well, that was anticlimactic,” I say as he’s led away.

“I never got that kiss.”

“Let me remedy that right now.”

I kiss her hard, dipping her back as the room erupts into applause. She laughs into my chest as I let her back up, but then her eyes and mouth turn serious. “I can’t go on tour with you, or anything. We’re going to be apart so much.”

“No, Jeny girl, we’re really not.”

We can’t leave the party early, but God, did I want to. It’s wound down now, so we’re free to make our escape. The ring on my finger is better than any aphrodisiac nature or man could make. I need to make love to Wayne now. The only problem is, I can’t find him. I’m about to call in the guards when one approaches me.

“Princess, your fiancé asked me to give you this.”

I take the envelope from him, and open in. There’s a flat card in there, and I smile at the words when I take it out.

Come and find me in the maze. I know you grew up here, but I left you clues just in case.

I hurry out, finding a flower tied to one of the hedges at the entrance to the maze. Every few feet is another one, and by the time I find Wayne in the middle, I have my arms full. They are different colors and varieties, and I love them. He grabs them all from me, and stuffs them in a black Ted Baker suitcase covered in blue butterflies.

“You found me.”

“The flowers are beautiful.”

“They reminded me of your dresses.”

“Me too. I love them.” I gesture to the blankets and pillows near the fountain. “No food?”

“Not tonight.”

“Someone else might wander in here.”

He shakes his head. “Your father instructed that a guard be placed at each entrance for as long as we need them there.”

“You thought of everything.”

“Of course! It’s not every day I get engaged. I have special plans for us.”

“Such as?”

“I’d like to tie you to the statue in the fountain, and go from there.”

“I like how you think.” I tell him, unzipping my dress as he grabs the ropes sitting on the outer rim of the fountain.

“Leave those on,” he says when I try to take off my orange strapless bra, and teal thong, covered in giraffes.

I kick off my shoes, and he helps me climb into the fountain. I walk to the statue, and wait for his direction. He kicks off his shoes, and undresses while I watch him with a smile.

“You’re so lush.”

“As are you. Now, please turn around, and wrap your arms around the statue.”

I do as he says, feeling the statue’s marble penis press into my stomach. It’s a naked man holding his arms out, welcoming all who come to him, as the water falls from his fingers. I’m sure my ancestors didn’t think it would be used for a sexcapade when they commissioned it, but here we are.

Wayne secures my wrists, and then he’s behind me. His fingers run over my scars, and then I fell him bend over, and kiss them. “Thank you for these.”

“I’d do it again.”

“I know, and that makes them the most beautiful part of your body.”

He flicks my bra open, and pulls my thong down, keeping it around my things to restrict my movements. I wait in anticipation, because I don’t know what he’s going to do next. I don’t have to wait long.

He runs his fingers over me, and satisfied that I’m ready for him, he thrusts into me, fully seating himself. “You feel so good.”

He doesn’t answer me with words, but as he slowly thrusts in and out of me, he kisses my neck, my shoulders, my arms. He holds onto my right hip, using his other hand to play with my breasts. When I’m getting close, he pushes me flush with the statue, so both he and the marble are rubbing against me as he speeds up his pace.

The combination of cold and hot is too much for me, and I break apart, whispering his name on the wind. He follows me over, pushing me into the statue as he comes hard. His hands come up to undo my bindings, and I reach back to hold his ass as he continues with shallow thrusts, because he’s still semi-hard inside of me.

Placing my hands on the shoulders of the statue, he lifts me by the hips, and wraps my legs around his waist. “Hold on, Jeny girl. I’m not done with you.”

“You are so lucky I have great upper body strength.”

“I know.”
