Garret thrust one last time, groaning as he filled her ass with his seed. She felt victorious, bringing such a powerful male to his peak.

“I’m coming,” said Travis, his cock swelling in her mouth. She wanted to taste him, to allow him to finish inside her mouth. It was bonding, and right now she needed to feel connected. He tried to pull away, but she latched on to him with a tight suction, gently holding his scrotum in one hand. The added touch pushed him over the edge. He growled, his body tensing as a spray of ejaculate struck the back of her throat. “Gods, woman!”

Evan pulled her flat to his chest, working her from the bottom. He whispered in her ear. “You’re all mine.” She knew he’d never leave her unsatisfied. With the other two men spent, it was up to him to bring her to climax. His big cock massaged her walls, each stroke bringing her closer to a precipice. She loved the heat of his chest, the feel of his stubble against her cheek.

Cassidy sucked in mouthfuls of air as her orgasm threatened to break free. She knew it would be powerful, her body already humming in anticipation. As much as she never wanted the bliss to end, she knew these men would offer her the same pleasure night after night. The mere idea helped push her over the edge. Her body took control, exploding from the inside out. Her pussy cramped, pulsing around Evan’s cock in a never-ending sequence. He held her tight as she rode out her release.

“Good girl,” said Evan. “I love the way you squeeze my cock.”

By the time her body settled, that beautiful after-sex calm surrounding her, her doubts began to creep back in. Was she special, or would they offer the same services to any pretty face? Tomorrow would answer all her questions. Questions she wasn’t sure if she wanted answered.

Chapter Five

Patrick climbed up the stairs of Evan’s excavator and banged on the door.

“What is it?” shouted Evan over the roar of the engine after he wrenched open the door.

“You see the inspector? She got here about half an hour ago.”

Evan shook his head. He’d been so involved in his task, he hadn’t even stopped for his morning coffee break. “I don’t even want to hear about her. Until she’s gone, we won’t get cut any slack around here. It’s not the same without Cassidy in the office, either.”

He missed driving to work with her in the mornings, giving her a private kiss before he’d head off to the pit. Break times were a chance to spend a few minutes with her, learn something new about the woman who’d quickly become the center of his universe.

“She’s cute.”

Evan frowned. “You serious?”

Patrick shrugged. “Long dark hair and plenty of curves. Come see for yourself.”

Although they’d all had their fair share of women before Cassidy moved to Climax, things were different now. For him, anyway. Patrick might be the only loose cannon when it came to committing, but he thought his friend had stronger feelings for Cassidy than a fleeting attraction. Evan couldn’t even entertain the idea of another female. It was just another reason Garret should have marked her. It would have cemented the bond, making it impossible for any of the pack to desire a woman other than their own.

“I’ll pass. By all means, don’t hold back on account of me. I’ll be sure to let Cassidy know about your new conquest.”

“Don’t be an asshole.” Patrick climbed down from the truck, landing heavily on the ground in a blur of dust.

Evan had been torn lately with the need for revenge on the loggers and the battle within him—the one luring him to defy his alpha for a woman. He had to obey orders. He’d promised himself never to trust his own intuition again. It had gotten his old pack killed. It was only his new love for Cassidy that sparked his frequent wayward thoughts. Life had been simple before she showed up in Climax but also nothing to covet.

After another hour of nonstop excavating, he decided he’d had enough for a while. He set out for the construction trailer to get a water bottle. Before he reached it, he was intercepted by Garret and the inspector.

“Evan, this is Samantha Tanner.”

She held out her hand. Patrick was right. The inspector was attractive. Normally the pack would be all over her, like bears to honey. He wondered if the bonding he felt for Cassidy extended to all his pack. “You can call me Sam.” Evan introduced himself and then nodded, hoping to be on his way.

“I want you to stay on-site tonight. All week actually,” said Garret. “I’d feel better with one of my most reliable men watching over our guest.”

Evan’s heart began to race. It was bad enough that he already had withdrawal after not seeing Cassidy half the day. Now Garret wanted him to stay at Gregor Mining all night, too? He felt like telling his alpha to fuck off and do it himself, if he cared so much. It wasn’t their responsibility to house the inspector, just make the mine available during business hours over the next week.

He kept silent.

“It’s okay,” said Sam. “I’m sure he doesn’t want to babysit little ol’ me. I’ll be fine on my own.”

“I’m sure you’ve read the papers or heard the news reports. Climax isn’t exactly the safest place as of late. This is no place for a woman to stay alone,” said Garret.

“Evan, is that okay with you?”

Evan might look like a mindless brute, but he knew the woman was flirting with him—the slight tilt of her head, the squint in her eyes, and parting of her lips. Everything pointed to a master of seduction, one he was fully immune to.

“Garret’s the boss. What he says goes around here.”

She refocused her attention on his alpha, her arousal clouding the air with her scent. The inspector was turned on by power, and Garret was saturated in it. Maybe she’d leave Evan alone.

As he made his way to the trailer, he couldn’t help but replay Cassidy’s insecurities over in his head. Could it be true that his alpha was fickle when it came to love? He didn’t think it possible. Would he cross the line if the inspector demanded unprofessional favors? Maybe he should steal off with Cassidy, give her the life she deserved. His need to be close with her made his wolf edgy, especially knowing he’d rarely see her over the course of the week.

Once inside the trailer he grabbed a bottle of water from the mini fridge and kicked it closed. He was pissed off, confused, and frustrated with life.

“What did the fridge ever do to you?”

It was the sweetest voice
. Mine.
He whirled around, grabbed Cassidy into his arms, and twirled her in a circle. “How’d you get here?” he asked. Garret had made sure she had no transportation, only a two-way radio in case of an emergency.

“I walked to my place and picked up my car.” She smiled devilishly.

“You know Garret told you not to come during the day. And besides, walking that far in the forest was a stupid move. What if something happened to you? I wouldn’t even know where to start looking.”

“I’m fine,” she reassured. “And I’m not staying, so don’t worry about Garret.”

“Then why?”

“Since I can’t work all week, I thought I’d get some errands done. I’m travelling south to our supply town to look at some renovation stuff. My house still doesn’t have a bathroom, you know.”

“Traveling by yourself? And I told you not to worry about that old shack. You belong where we are. Where I am.”

He began to wonder if her worries were founded or not. With Patrick and Garret’s recent behavior he wasn’t so sure. He wouldn’t know their true feelings until they shifted and their emotions were easy to read. But that would likely be in a week or longer since they were ordered not to shift while under inspection.

“I know we’ve all been through a lot together in a short period of time, but I’ve been having doubts. If I’m going to offer five men my entire life, I need to feel one-hundred-percent secure about it.”

“Don’t have doubts about me,” he said.

She scoffed. “If Garret told you to jump, you’d ask how high. That doesn’t inspire confidence in me, Evan.”

He backed her up into the corner. “Don’t question my love for you, Cassidy. I’d do anything for you.”

“Then mark me,” she dared, pulling the collar of her shirt down.

Evan took a cleansing breath, briefly closing his eyes. She had no idea what she was saying and how deeply it affected him. “You know I can’t do that. I have to wait for—”

“For Garret,” she interrupted. “You’re a grown man. You can make choices for yourself.”

She looked adorable when flustered. He secured her wrists at her sides and kissed her lips. “I choose you.” Another kiss. “I’ve told you before that we’re not ordinary men. I hope to the gods Garret explains everything to you soon. Just be patient…for a little longer.”

Her body slunk against the wall. He pulled her against him and kissed her atop the head. “I’m tired, Evan,” she whispered. “I want my happily ever after.”

“You’ll get it. I promise.”

The door to the trailer burst open, the light streaming in at the other end of the office. It was Garret and the fucking inspector. He instinctively pulled away from Cassidy, not wanting to anger his alpha. Evan didn’t know what cut him deeper—the look of betrayal in Cassidy’s eyes or the fact she was right about his blind devotion to Garret.

* * * *

Cassidy felt like a cornered rat. An unwanted rat. Evan pulled away from her as if she’d scalded him with her presence, and the other man she loved looked at her like a problem to solve. Then there was the woman who starred in her nightmares. In person, she was much more intimidating. She had full breasts that she allowed to overflow from her blouse.
Very unprofessional.
Her makeup looked like it took her an hour to put on in the morning. Cassidy hadn’t worn a stitch since her adventure up to Climax. Right now she felt like a homely plain-Jane next to the well-manicured Ms. Tanner. If there was a hole, she’d crawl into it—anything to avoid this unpleasant confrontation.

“Who do we have here? Another employee?”

“This is Cassidy Lyons. She’s hired to be our new dispatcher as soon as she gets her WHMIS certification.”

“A woman?” Sam broke away from Garret and came closer. “Interesting.”

“We have another woman doing long-haul for us. We’re an equal opportunity employer at Gregor Mining,” said Garret. He was acting like a complete kiss-ass. She understood why he didn’t mention there was anything personal between them, but it still felt awkward and brought out her insecurities.

“And you’re here now for what? Training?” asked Sam.

“I was just passing through on my way out of town.” She made a point of looking Garret in the eyes. He might be hiding their relationship, but she knew he’d be furious about her venturing off on her own again. It pleased her to give him a bit of his own medicine.

“And you, Evan, since you’re my roommate for the week, do you think you could bring my suitcases to my room when you have a minute? They’re in my trunk.”

“Sure,” he said.

Cassidy was fuming inside. If she weren’t so blindly in love, she’d tell the men where to shove it and move back to the city. But she knew where that road led. She needed to fight for what she wanted, for what she loved.

“And you, Mr. Gregor. You were going to show me the pit?” She linked arms with Garret.
Her
Garret. He led her out the door and out of sight. Her nails dug so hard into her palms, Cassidy swore they’d broken the skin.

“Is that professional to you? Since when do inspectors touch their clients?” She paced the office, her hands on her hips. “Oh, what am I talking to you for? Shouldn’t you be fetching her bags? Or did you forget to tell me about your little sleepover party?”

She shoved past Evan and chased down the steps of the trailer. Cassidy felt claustrophobic. There wasn’t enough air in the whole province. She needed to get away from the mine, to clear her head. Fighting for what she loved was one thing. She would not fight a losing battle for men who weren’t faithful in return. Back in the city, she could land a dozen cheating jerks a week, but that was not what she wanted for herself. Maybe what she had with her five men was too good to be true after all.

“Baby girl, where you headin’?” called Travis from across the yard. She ignored Travis, Evan, and everything else and hopped into her car as fast as possible. Cassidy revved the engine and tore out of the mine in a flurry of gravel and dust before she could be stopped. Maybe living her life alone wasn’t as bad as she’d made it out to be. At least she wouldn’t have to worry about heartache and pain.

She drove in a haze of thought, only watching the road ahead of her like a programmed robot. Maybe she wouldn’t even come back. Would they even miss her?

Cassidy stopped at the last service station before the next town to fuel up. As the attendant topped up her tank, she got out of the car to stretch her legs. Her body was antsy, her mind continually recalling the vision of that woman holding Garret’s arm. She felt like an animal with a claim and it was driving her crazy.

She cupped her hand over her eyes, looking down the highway. The stretch of road leading out of town was lonely. Climax was not a destination, but a place to be avoided. Then she noticed a figure emerge from the side of the gas station.

“You’re tense,” said Corbin.
